Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:I have a question about playfield rails & pivots since I'm currently in the process of swapping my Getaway playfield. Should the pivots and slide assemblies be greased/lubricated in any way?
I put a little grease on my finger and run my finger along the slide part and top of the pivot point, where you have metal on metal.
Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:what type of lubricant is best to use?
Nothing special. I have chain grease for the chain on garage door openers.
Make things slide nice and no grinding/dragging noise. And less likely to slide sideways and off the track.

I do exactly what Lloyd suggest.
Grease the rails maybe a dab on the pivots.
Usually I am using this

Thank you Chris. That video explains it all. Appreciate you taking the time to document all these interesting things.
Weekend furniture work continues.
Almost done I hope. I just don’t see any reason to buy new furniture especially when what I have is high end solid wood from years past.

Sanded and final cleared my table first thing this morning.
Looking forward to a week of pinball.

Quoted from High_End_Pins:I just don’t see any reason to buy new furniture ...
I typically have the same thought, but my wife usually thinks differently.
Wow - I can't think of any more of an ominous pinball picture than seeing a wrapped game with glass getting ready to pour out of the coin return
I've owned a furniture finishing & repair company for years. Now I consult & instruct others how to do it. You did a great job on your table Chris! Although, I really wouldn't expect anything less from you. I've followed this thread from the start & I enjoy seeing how how you approach playfield repair & cabinet finishing. Turns out, auto painters & furniture finishers have more in common that one would think. My techniques on furniture are very similar, but I use vinyl sealer, solvent-based stains, glazes, pigments & pre-catalyzed lacquer instead of automotive coatings.

CPR fix this!!!
Exactly! The nonsense being purported by CPR does not make logical sense. The sooner they admit fault and focus on improving their processes, the happier they will be, and their customers will have faith in their backglass products.
For those interested in learning more about the digital printing learning cuve, this video is excellent, what Bruce has to say about the process is very insightful.

Half expected disappointment I'd say.

Lots of great info here. Makes me wish I had gone so I could chat with Bruce a bit on this stuff. I'm a graphic designer who worked at a flexographic printing company for about 5 years. Bruce is speaking my language here with all his tech talk. I hope he does go into the extended gamut stuff as most of those digital presses add orange, green, and violet to really narrow that gap of hitting the most Pantone colors possible. It'd be even better if they had machines that could add in the light versions of CYMK, too. I think if these digital presses added white as standard, that'd help a ton, too.
While it does suck that they're no longer screen printing as it truly does produce the best results, I completely understand the shift to digital. Eventually, the product a digital press makes will be damn near indistinguishable from a screen printed one. We're just not there, yet. The only thing I worry about is as the old, original stuff goes away(UV fading of colors, fewer people owning great unrestored originals, games owned by people who aren't as socially active in the hobby as we Pinsiders are), the reprinted ones become the standard, even thought their colors are technically off. I just hope there's a database of what the original colors were from the factory. If there is, then I'm not worried at all. If not, we may(in 50 years, mind you) start to suffer from what I've dubbed "design drift". That's where the original design/color of something has been unintentionally supplanted by subsequent replacements and the original version has been sadly lost.

Thank you. Definitely a lot of carry over between the two skill sets. Just a slightly different subject matter and material usage.
My final clear flattened out as intended and the table is back in the house. Need to do the tops of two other smaller ones.

Not this one maybe some parts of it but it’s tough to document some of these projects during the holidays.
Quoted from gjm:Chris, any word back to you from CPR about the DH backglass? Obviously they don't care about Johnny home owner but a guy with your reputation and prominent status in the pinball world as the best pin restorer alive, how are they treating you?
Not really.
I rarely if ever hear back and even less likely get a reasonable resolution.
When I say something publicly I usually get a lengthy response but again can’t think of a single time I have gotten a truly amicable solution offered to me.
Right now I am working through many issues with them and my timelines don’t work with their response times so I move on and start to avoid the products that are causing the problems.
Some things are subjective like color match or slight playfield warping but others are not like bubbling backglasses, peeling and cracking plastics or missing switch cut outs.
I am not buying these parts to be worse off than I started.

Have to paint the coin box area. Don’t like to but this one is just too stained. Normally I would go with a new cabinet but aside from that and the head(I replaced that)it was really straight.

It’s going to need some work. These don’t seem to hold up that well. It’s like the wood is not that great. Lots of splintering and compression marks.

Dried overnight shaped installed.
Another day into the Congo playfield. It was kind of rough but turned the corner quickly.
The majority of issues were in the natural wood.
