Quoted from swinks:

awesome - made good time, great to hear that you got them, and I added a few extras to allow a few future restores if any other CFTBL with Snackbars require your services.

Haha... here I was thinking... Geez Coles have expanded to the US <#ziplock bags>

lol, Coles gone global

I see you use a lot of Mirco playfields, there is a lot of discussion on his playfields GNR. Wonder if you notice any irregularities, like softer wood, pooling as soon as you populate the playfield, the print not attached correctly. I know you do your own clearcoat but the one that is on there, is that really that bad? Any thoughts/info would be greatly appreciated.

In the past: too soft.
New runs are better.

Issues I am aware of but won’t address
That is the slight vertical line in the woman pictured 448C8952-5522-4C16-841E-1991957ADA1D (resized).jpeg448C8952-5522-4C16-841E-1991957ADA1D (resized).jpeg
The reason I won’t address this is because it will likely lead to a repair that brings more attention and looks unnatural. In my experience a very small non repair looks better than a large repair if the issue is minor or flows well with the age of the rest of the playfield.

Cyclopes hopefully final cleared. This one is getting pretty long in the tooth

It’s for a great customer and frequent flyer here though so it is absolutely worth it.

Your pic of the ball trough threw me off there. I was like, "Where did he get the diamond pattern trough?" lol

I'm looking forward to seeing how all the black metal pieces look once completed. Really looking great so far!

Things you can barely do on CFTBL: See the Pops.

#8216 3 years ago

Very cool to see this CFTBL come together. I know the owner and I helped wire the GI that was added to the pops. Unbelievable that they shipped the game that dark.

Can't wait to play this one when its all done.

Curious to know what you used to hold the CFTBL lagoon window in place. I can see the nylon lock nuts, but are those just grommets underneath?

Also, I just noticed you have a blue and orange coil in there. I'll have to check mine at home.

#8218 3 years ago

Almost done wiring the CFTBL up.

I have completely rewired the GI and replaced all sockets.

I also replaced most of the feature lamps and reworked all eliminating the generic daisy chains.

Good idea to keep them all long until you're done; easy to see where you've tied and where you haven't. My dumb ass would just clip as I go. Learn something new here every day.

Never thought of that as my OCD would not allow me to. However, a very practical methodology for sure.

This is a really interesting point to me. I feel like the two main pieces of thrill for the commons is the thrill of watching and following this thread and the thrill of owning a genuine HEP game. It’s rare to have the opportunity to play and look at one as a casual observer.

If anybody in NE has an HEP and wouldn’t mind me looking at it, shoot me a PM

I did end up moving my light strip to the playfield.
It has been a couple years since I have done a CFTBL with the lighted back board.
When wiring the cabinet I realized a way I could have the same lighting effect but also house the strip and wiring on the playfield making it a bit cleaner and easier to wire and maintain. 04A617B6-0350-47BB-AE32-5FF1A8A56CD7 (resized).jpeg04A617B6-0350-47BB-AE32-5FF1A8A56CD7 (resized).jpegFBCF8B6E-7066-432F-94B9-58A6A5A01069 (resized).jpegFBCF8B6E-7066-432F-94B9-58A6A5A01069 (resized).jpegDF095C43-E3A2-4554-ACF1-30088C5A07F3 (resized).jpegDF095C43-E3A2-4554-ACF1-30088C5A07F3 (resized).jpeg
Woke up to this. Mama loves Christmas. It will take her weeks to set all this stuff up. She looks to be finding a good use for the empty Belgian crates. We’ll see how it progresses 5A9E6B26-D408-44BA-87D4-F5CDCE3BA768 (resized).jpeg5A9E6B26-D408-44BA-87D4-F5CDCE3BA768 (resized).jpeg

I changed the curly ramp lamps from green to traditional.
It’s supposed to be a film strip so in my eyes I just like that idea better.

Are you using an LED OCD to make the insert LEDs attack and decay more naturally? I love that product. Spectacular results.

Quoted from PinMonk:

Anybody who puts money into these restorations and doesn't use the LEDOCD for both GI and Inserts is a fool tbh.

#8237 3 years ago

Hi Chris where did you get those cards for CFTBL, those look nice. The machine looks beautiful, for me the black is not it, I like shine chrome things. But if this is what the customer want, this is what he gets. Nice to see someone doing a different thing.

#8238 3 years ago

Wow the Creature looks amazing mine was restored about 8 years ago and the clear is showing signs of cracking on the inlanes where the balls drop off the ramps. Looking at this makes me think I need to send it off for another restoration/tidy up.

#8239 3 years ago

Do you plan to install the silicon caps onto the LED bulbs in the signs? I tend to do this as I don't like the look of the frosted lenses on the LEDs. Sometimes you have to cut them to fit properly, other times you have to use fluted bulbs so they fit snug. Often you have to use warm white bulbs under them to get the proper 'pop' of colour.

Nice to see someone else using flex head bulbs. I was beginning to think I was the only one that bought these. I went with the 2-Flex head bulb behind the FILM sign on the backboard, but you have the LEDs from the light up panel helping you out. I used 2-FLEX heads in other areas as well. Mainly large inserts like the MEGA MENU.

Where did you get the new decals for under the whirlpool bowl? I was going to order from Marco, but I read that they were opaque not see-through.

I do install the LED OCD board for the feature lamps.
I don’t normally tune them because often that is a matter of taste but the ability is there for the owner.

Those cards are from Mad Voodoo which Is really Stu of CPR fame.
No worries on the love of black out I like to build a variety of games and looks.
It keeps things interesting.

I usually do use and prefer the silicone caps as well but on this game it came in without them so I have to see if I have enough to create a full set.
The main ones that are tougher to come by specific to CFTBL are the thicker white ones.
I probably have a couple but they are likely yellowed so it’s hard to want to go that route if it will not be a true upgrade over none.

Good move. In addition to the film strip thing, green was clashing with the teal pops & snackbar mod, which are both in the same line of sight as the curly ramp. Green bowl lights are far enough away that they don't clash. Perfection.

Out of the box they're better than nothing, so even if the owner doesn't take the time to tune them, they'll look great. I'm in awe of how much the LED OCD improves the look of LEDs on old machines.

But now the biggest question...are you putting on your cap and delivering this one?
