On the C37 In order to make the drop target bank easy to service as well as take the strain off the harness for the removal.
It required 18 new wires and connections. BFD0CAA9-298A-479F-8EDE-24E49401C4F8 (resized).jpeg

Quoted from High_End_Pins:

The latest shipment of screws has arrived.

Quoted from punkin:

It's Hep to be square?

Better than the joke I was going to offer about HEP getting screwed.

The Mystic cabinet graduates the paint shop. Now at its correct gloss level.

That Mystic playfield color is so disappointing. Glad you're fixing it but most other people that get the replacement won't be able to.

I agree. Maybe it matches other playfields better but definitely not this one.
I have a crazy and I do mean crazy eye and OCD for color match.
It’s not a brag but more of a quirk.
Back when I used to paint cars for a living if you didn’t get a good match you would be painting it again or painting even more panels to blend it out to make it work for free.
That was a good way to lose time and money.
Not having it here!
It already takes a ton of work to get one of these across the finish line. I don’t ever want to knowingly overlook any details.

Making good progress on the C37 today.
Got the harness off the old playfield.
Cleaned and polished everything I needed off of that at this stage and placed it on the new playfield. B3AFBE44-BD1D-49C1-B86E-1080C1CC1095 (resized).jpeg

Then I put down all new sockets and insulated common wire in place of the bare wire. 80157F3B-EB6A-4316-B06B-72BF545C2799 (resized).jpeg

I think they used a sun-faded playfield to color match. Like mine.

Spent a couple hours troubleshooting which might be a record for me with a EM.
I started with a game that would do nothing(coin door slam tilt just barely and I mean barely not fully closed)
Transitioned to one that wouldn’t score 500 points.(wire off the score reel in the back box)
Then a game thats score motor would not stop spinning (another wire off a switch very hidden)
Went from that to one that wouldn’t stop scoring 500 (a leg of a roll over switch was just barely touching another under a huge relay bank)
I am definitely getting more comfortable and getting a better understanding of them.
Will do all I can to clean flatten and polish the original plastics and then it should be all done.

Love troubleshooting EM games. It's just wires and connections. As long as you have a schematic it is not super difficult to trace. Nice Job! Looks Great!

Have never played a C37 and likely won't in my lifetime, but I'm now a fan - absolutely remarkable work.

I have a busy summer ahead of painted cabinets. Tricky ones like Earthshaker ,Tommy, and Swords of Fury
A couple easier ones like Sorcerer,SBM
In order to get a little breathing room before diving into those I am going to run some easier games in the background like SC,TOTAN,CV Airborne and probably MM while I am painting all those cabinets because it’s a time consuming process with a lot of cure time and line perfecting.
TOTAN is first.

image (resized).jpg
#9538 1 year ago

Interesting I thought TOTAN would’ve been on the more difficult side of the restoration scale. I’m guessing the other games mentioned are much more difficult due to no cabinet decal availability, so you have to hand repaint damaged artwork on the cabinet then?

Yes decaling cabinets is much easier than painting them.
Even stenciling is pretty basic and doesn’t require too much skill but when you start painting cabinets that are originally screen printed with really fine details and gradients, customizing schemes or manually repainting that is where you can’t fake it and it’s hard technical work that goes slowly and cost big money to pull off.
Those type of projects take twice as long and I don’t see others doing them which is why I probably end up with so many and then have to work my way through them.

Dealing with the faces of the heads is always the worst part new or old.
Open grain sucks.

#9546 1 year ago

STTNG and TZ are ready to prime. image (resized).jpg
Prepping ES #1 of three. image (resized).jpg
I plan on prepping and priming two straight black decal cabinets and one painted cabinet in each set.
This will let me keep the easy cabinets moving and allow me to focus in detail on one painted cabinet at a time.

#9547 1 year ago

Mystic begins reassembly.
Good layout on this one where I could actually make everything match consistently.
Can’t go wrong when you can use the exact same paint for everything.
This is where the versatility of automotive paint beats all others.
