Alternate Tommy BP finished.
Alternate Tommy BP finished.
Alternate Tommy BP playfield.
Quoted from freegame450:Love the alt.Tommy. Super cool look.
Thank you. Here is the side by side. Always fun to see that.
The Alt Tommy pics taken outdoors really show that your work is of the highest quality. I'd bet huge money that there isn't a pinball machine coming out of ANY manufacturer that is as pristine as this one.
Pulling some of my next projects.
First is a prototype FH
It’s been here almost ten years waiting on the owner to do something with it.
Going to have to restore the original playfield. Won’t be fast nor cheap.

Yeah there have been some tough people to deal with. I am looking to clear them out. It’s not a storage facility.
Can't wait to see you work your magic on that Diner cabinet. We will all learn a lot from it. This is gonna be good!
Quoted from High_End_Pins:Next up is a Diner.
It pains me to do it but I am going to reuse the current cabinet and decal it.
Ideally I would start with a new shell instead of packing this one with fiberglass and filler but ………
I will just be glad to get it moving. [quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
whoa that will definitely be a lot of sanding and body work
Trying to figure why someone would do a Diner. Can't sell mine.
The resto Taxi next to it is something else though.
Quoted from hisokajp:whoa that will definitely be a lot of sanding and body work
on these System 11 cabinets it’s not what you see it’s what you don’t see that makes them suck.
They typically have these football shaped wood plugs the top layer of the ply spread out over the cabinet.
Those usually loosen or pop out once strip sanded from the trauma of that and have to be fully dug out refilled with fiberglass.
We will all know more once stripped though.
That alt.Tommy gets my vote for your nicest game ever with a possible exception for one of your Centaur’s. Great stuff!
Closed this week out with two beautiful Tommy’s that are silent in gameplay. Trying to figure that out. Mr T is helping me. He knows this stuff.
They sound like a live concert in attract mode so it’s absolutely some type of software /file issue. I went through hours and hours of trying to load delet and more. Have a few flash drives to show for it no results.
I figure if it were hardware it just wouldn’t work at all.
All the more reason I am going to avoid anything other than factory boards.
Had to get away from them.
Decided to get the paint shop ready for the better weather and the numerous cabinet paint jobs that are ahead of me.
Changed the oil in my compressor. It’s a rotary screw made in Belgium so parts are hard to get unless you are in that business and expensive.
$400 oil,air filter,oil filter and oil separator.
Labor was free of course. They questioned my ability to service the machine when I contacted the tech department to get the part numbers

If you and Mr T can't figure it out, i don't want to be saddled with a problem like that.
And they are right, those filters and drains like much harder than my Harley where the drain plug is in the frame and accessed by touch.
Thoroughly cleaned the spray room and changed the floor and filters out.
The floor covering is a special mat that is made to hold overspray. Anti static also. I thought I would try it out.

I thought it would be something simple on the Tommy’s.
Two different games
Two different boards
Pinsound loaded one USB themselves when I ordered.
I loaded the other myself
Two different sound packages.
One exact same result.
That compressor is easier to deal with than the Pinsound in Tommy right now.
Started my weekend right about 6.
I have seven cases of this. It’s a long story but the store was selling them for $6.99 a bottle. My wife called me to tell me and I said get four cases. I already had three from the release day.
I don’t drink them fast but stouts really dry up around here once we hit spring and it’s a long drought until around October. I don’t pick my beverage of choice based on seasons. I go with what I like year round.
Getting started on my weekend projects. Definitely not pinball this weekend especially. I am pretty sure those Tommy’s are trying to ruin me. From the hours spent painting them all the way up to their silence
Painting my low gloss stuff first engine covers

Etched the break throughs then based 3979A751-5E26-443C-B8FA-59750A8520CD (resized).jpeg
Then semi low gloss cleared. I am not sure if you have heard or read this before but……still wet will gloss down as it dries overnight.
Man your paint work is second to none. Never get tired of seeing it, whether on pins or on something else. Awesome job.
Damn........I wish I still had my 1975-ish Suzuki TM75. I would send it to you to bring it back to SHOWROOM+. Your abilities go well beyond the world of pinball Christopher. Thank you for sharing.
Regarding Tommy...
I had some strange issues with my DE JP where randomly/occasionally the pinsound board wouldn't give me any sound at all. After a few rounds with Nicolas at pinsound, we added a config.ini file on the root of the drive that had this:
[main]
engine = DE
Have never had any issues after that.
I realize you are getting attract mode sound, but perhaps this is worth a try.
I had a similar issue when I swapped my board into a DE. Sounds played in attract mode but cut out a few seconds after starting a game. It turns out I had installed the ribbon cable backwards. Oops. I feel guilty posting this. Worth a double check though.
Engine covers dried overnight down to the proper gloss level.

whoa that is an interesting effect, one side was backward?
Big thanks to MR T.
I had the ribbon cable backwards. This is something I know so well to check for and did. The problem was I thought red wire meant here 6ABA6E8D-F390-44E7-92EC-13B4C8C8335F (resized).jpeg
It actually meant here 507A1290-0C1F-45F6-A59B-EBEDB8BF80A3 (resized).jpeg
It was a blunder but pales in comparison to a couple of years past.
Games sound great. Every new product brings a learning experience.
Placed the pictures wrong initially. Fat busy fingers.
Cleared all that stuff.
Another Sunday spent away from pinball. This is actually proving to be a welcome distraction for me where I actually look forward to getting back to pinball on Monday.
With the ground work down on the tanks and fenders I can start dealing with the motor and frame. 0EF74A94-2C97-46D3-A5EA-DFDC239DA9DE (resized).jpeg
Motor pulled. C79D2111-27BF-4ECA-AB88-26A2E06BC4B8 (resized).jpeg
A few issues with that.
First it leaks oil.
Second it’s too glossy.
Third things have been painted that shouldn’t have. More of course always more.

Everything is in spec so I can just hone if and install new rings.
Refinished the cylinder and head with low gloss high heat paint. These things would not be something you would want to epoxy prime then paint and clear. It would impact the heat/cooling and likely create fumes.
In these cases just an appropriate finish to refresh them. 98A0CD60-EDF0-407F-BB80-4D1DD80AB449 (resized).jpeg

I need to paint the crankcase it’s too glossy.
You can’t tape something like this up.
How to mask it you ask?

Same low gloss black for this. Not the type of thing you need to go all out on as it will be covered and wrenched on.

I did get a head start on that when I cleared my tanks yesterday.
