Did you sustain any damage from the hurricane? we had trees down all over the place. Luckily nothing hit the house.

No damage but it definitely made a mess of my recently completed landscaping projects.
Nothing a little raking and leaf blowing didn’t fix.
I had just seeded and put down some topsoil in all the damaged areas from the tree work and fence build. Made a walkway to the gate Installed covers over the mini split lines etc.
Between that and the IJ nightmare I have been seriously distracted but the worst is behind me on both.

Off subject but another American house with gutter down pipes just coming out on the lawn no storm water pipes under ground?

Quoted from Gorgar1:

Ours go underground where they meet up and empty to the gutter on the street. They're not all like that in America. Probably a regional preference.

Quoted from High_End_Pins:

IJ nightmare cabinet is built up and wired.
I used factory wire holders for that one.

By “factory wire holders” are you talking about the white plastic loops?

FWIW, I re-created those in 3D space using OpenSCAD and did it in Thingiverse’s “customized” mode:

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4737782

So you can open it in the customizer and change pretty much ANY dimension easily and it will spit out the new STL file to print. So for a restoration where you can’t find a particular size, you could re-create it to print. Or for games you’re trying to achieve some particular look, you could print them all again in some custom color easily. Or make a custom size to accommodate extra cables from mods, maybe. I’m guessing you’d want to print yourself using PETG for durability or send off to somewhere like Shapeways for printing in one of their tougher materials.

Anyway, it’s free for anyone to use.

I wish I had hidden gutters! These take a little more work and planning and look much better IMO. I believe most American houses have the same style as mine (ugly), it just dumps to the ground a few feet away from the foundation and isn't hidden at all. We do have storm water pipes, but rain from the gutters typically doesn't go directly into the sewer. It will run down the lot until it finds the nearest sewer drain at the curb.

Quoted from snakesnsparklers:

We do have storm water pipes, but rain from the gutters typically doesn't go directly into the sewer. It will run down the lot until it finds the nearest sewer drain at the curb.

Where we're remodeling our new house, we were not allowed to have the basement sump pumps empty into the sewer system. The reason, we were told: water and sewer are charged together by the amount of water served, so emptying _rain water_ into the sewer means the city/county are processing "waste water" they're not getting paid for.

The sumps are piped to the gully along the road, where they (eventually) empty into the _storm sewer_, which empties into the river without processing.

#11709 1 year ago

Yes standard gutters around here.
We don’t get enough rain to worry about it. Many homes don’t have gutters at all.
Ours are new with covers though they were replaced when we had the roof done over the summer.
They are coming today to begin encapsulating the Crawlspace and I think we will be done with the outside.
This is the first house I bought back in 2000 it was new and all I really need so I just try to keep up with it best I can instead of moving all around.

While I finish up the latest batch of IJs I am closing out my second to last ES(BP)
The colors really pop on this one and I have a nearly complete set of Dumbass boards for it.
It was incredibly rough.

Is there a source to buy those brass legs? Or is it custom plating at this point? My Addams gold could use a new set.

Just about done with the IJ(PR) game.
Those sculpted mods are tough to work with.
The POA was getting jammed on the left side and ruins were tough to fit.
Extremely concerned about the glass rubbing the POA return cover on the left. They look cool and I am working it out a piece at a time.

Once again, I was on hiatus only to come back to being behind on one of the greatest info threads! Always good to see that HEP will never disappoint!
Just wondering if 6 yrs is to long for restoring a pinball machine It has taken so long that my F-14 has turned into a F-35

Beautiful. My goal one day is to own a HEP IJ. Kind of worried I might need both my kidneys later in life though.

I know it’s crazy what these games cost these days.
I found a receipt from 2002 where I bought an IJ for $1600 I think.
Restored it and sold it on eBay for $3500 and thought how insane that was.
If I ever get rich I am going to do this for free but very slowly and plan on being extremely difficult to deal with

#11723 1 year ago

That's me.

Crotchety old fuck. Won't do business on the phone, don't publish my number and don't pick up if i don't have the number entered in my phone.

If you want my stuff, then pay me and wait till i'm ready to send it to you.

Agreed. After seeing all the work you put in, and the costs of materials involved, the HEP factor is easy to understand. The $10-13k for a base game, not so much.

#11728 1 year ago

Thanks! Looks like he used:
- Renegade Products USA Rebel Pro Red Liquid Metal Polish - Heavy Cut (guessing here, can only see the back of the bottle)
- Wicked Products ALUMAG Chrome Metal Polish
- 3" buffing wheel
- Right angle air die grinder

I'm guessing that being able to polish the piece before it was bent made this task more convenient. Getting into tight interior corners on an existing ball guide might be problematic, but using different shaped buffing wheels could probably take care of that.

Looks like I'll be shopping for polishing supplies today!

#11729 1 year ago

Weight a minute!

Is that how you are supposed to bend/shape guide rails.

Chris - what is your preferred rivet removal method?

Drilling the head?
Drilling the flange?
Punching out from the backside?

I am getting annoyed not getting a clean cut when drilling the flange and having to do more work to get it popped out. I am curious what you have found most effective given the volume you do

Thx
