Quoted from GCS2000:So old school CC ramps don't exist you have to use remake ramps or was this a choice that was made. Just curious.
Originals are hard to come by pretty close to impossible if you need a whole set.

CC finished.
It leaves today so no time for a better photo shoot.
Quoted from High_End_Pins:CC is gone.

well this will be interesting to watch for sure

What exactly is a repack?
Quoted from mmr61184:What exactly is a repack?
That’s when a game I have done long ago comes back through here to bring it back or up to current standards.
Sometimes there is wear and tear to address other times it’s just dated because the process or options have changed over the years.
If you look at something like the BR.
It still looks great but now we have LEDs,better cabinet protectors etc.
It’s been bumped along the way, legs dug into the painted cabinet. This isn’t a decal job so it’s going to take the same skill set and finishes to correct things therefore it has to come back through.
It doesn’t need to be completely redone but it has things that need to be addressed to make it a better representation of itself by today’s standards.

nice, look forward to the postings as always
Gutted the BR down to the lower cabinet.
Repairs are underway.
I am going to leave the rails on because I don’t want to have to replace them or further damage the cabinet.
I remember drilling the extra holes in those rails to make them BR specific. Not fun.
Quoted from High_End_Pins:I settled on a consistent barber pole stripe [quoted image][quoted image]
I also try to avoid overlap in inventory due to gauge only so if for instance I really need a 18 gauge red/green for a solenoid I will use a red 18gauge with a 20 gauge red/green since the need is much more frequent for that color in the lamp matrix than the solenoid.
This allows me to have everything that is truly common and wire color correct at the source but avoid the space and expense of rare but occasional needs.

wire rack.... pure pinball restoration sexiness at it's finest !

I bet it's cool to have a game you've done come back to you and see how it performed in the wild. I like the idea of iterating on them and making improvements as time marches on.

Yeah.
Sometimes I am surprised in a positive way other times a negative one.
Most of the time anything I have done the last 10-12 years is good even if dated by todays standards.
Anything older than that I would probably redo entirely at this point. I just have a much more educated eye and better infrastructure these days.
Repairs are complete to the BR lower.
I am going to need to mask the art off and strategically prime and base before reclearing it entirely.
Finished the perimeter cuts More detailed in the front since the damage was dangerously close to the other colors.

Then unmasked and ready to clear.
Cleared with the same clear and matte ratios I used years ago.
Wet but will flatten out and gloss down as it dries and then we will know exactly where we stand.

that leads to asking... when did you start doing your first restorations? Who has HEP #1?!?
Quoted from hisokajp:that leads to asking... when did you start doing your first restorations? Who has HEP #1?!?
First one was around 2001.
It was pretty basic and not thorough.
The game was a Safecracker I bought off eBay.
Got completely screwed had a volcano screw pop out right in the center of the dial art portion of the playfield.
I took it apart. Brush touched it and cleared it while I was painting a SL500 that morning.
Came home slammed it back together
If I am not mistaken Mike Schudel had it last I knew of but that’s been a long time ago.
I was going to ask if you used to do auto body / paint / etc...there is my answer.

Who did the shotty work on that Bonzai originally - ha!!!!
Seriously, repairs are looking great. Nothing like a repeat customer.

Guilty as charged!I believe it was this one. Makes the repack seem like a vacation.

Lol I'm not there yet.... Did have a endoscopy not long ago, was so freaked out by the idea of the propofol or versed twilight that I had them do it with nothing. Zero numbing or sedation of any kind. Felt like.... Well, you can maybe partially imagine. Not doing the "other" one awake though lol.
I've got some fairly rare, properly cellared big stouts and Belgians here if you want to do some horse tradin'
Quoted from High_End_Pins:Had my yearly physical this morning.
At fifty it was “different” Couldn’t figure out if we should have exchanged vows or insurance information

LOL Welcome to Old Age Mens problems. You ain't felt nothin' till they say you have an enlarged prostate and we are going to take samples. Think 6 large needles loaded into a probe that go off one at a time like a shot gun. That probe is up where the sun don't shine. I almost fell off the table. Yes you are awake.
Back to beautiful restored Pinball machines....

Nah. Six is nothing. I had 12 pops done. Told my friends it was like having a pop can shoved up my ass.
On a pain scale it was a 1 out of 10. On an uncomfortable scale it was a 9.5 out of 10.
Chris, you’re getting to the age where a PSA test is getting important. If anything, it gives you a baseline or a number to keep an eye on. My brother in law had his cancerous prostate removed when he was only 55. Knew he was in trouble as his PSA number kept increasing.
Sorry to digress. I’ll let you get back at it.
Quoted from jrcmlc:Well this has taken a turn.
Hey we need all you guys to stay healthy, who else is going to pass the knowledge down
Quoted from jrcmlc:Well this has taken a turn.
they haven't even mentioned the bloody ejaculate that follows poking your prostate full of holes.
I think I speak for everyone when I say fuck you for that image. Lol. God bless it dude.

So you don't want me to share the picture?

LOL. I didn’t feel the need to bring that up.
I was really ok with that.

Ok that BAnzai Run has me thinking about those sweet pit bikes you did last year. Did you end up selling them all?
Quoted from PBFan:Ok that BAnzai Run has me thinking about those sweet pit bikes you did last year. Did you end up selling them all?
I think so. Waiting on a check for the last two.
Much like pinball I figured out I am a builder not an owner.
The process seems to be the highlight for me.
Looking for more of those projects after I finish my year long home renovation.
Quoted from djb_rh:Dang, that BR repack has me thinking about having you do that to mine. I love mine and it’s very good still, but it’s also an earlier restore.
Also, I still think I should get some credit for talking you into doing this pinball thing full time! Or, uh, maybe it’s blame?
I know it’s hard not to want to revisit some of these games again after 10-15 years.
I remember exactly when I finished your BR.
It was Curtis’ last day of elementary school.
The man is 25 years old now with a 3year old of his own!
You absolutely deserve credit and gave me enough steady work and reliability to take a chance on this way back then.
It’s been good. Not a whole lot different than what I was doing before possibly less lucrative but I have enjoyed my freedom and independence immensely.
Quoted from pokerag2:Hey Chris I'm watching the CC YouTube videos. You sprayed the cabinet with sealer. Would you recommend say Rustoleum professional primer? I also think at one point you had mentioned mixing 1/3 gloss to 2/3 semigloss to get the sheen closer to factory?
Not sure on that I am not a big oil base or enamel guy but they are great products for lower budget work.
Even on the CC I was using a catalyzed 4 to 1 primer mixed as a sealer meaning 4 to 1 to 1 primer/hardner /reducer
This basically makes a thinner faster drying primer that you can spray right over in 15 to 20 minutes. AKA a sealer.
The rust oleum primer is going to be much slower probably and harder to work with.
Ratios for sheens are varied depending on what you are looking for.
If using that product I find that the semi gloss straight from the can looks a little flat after a full cure.
I would go 3 or 4 parts semi to 1 part gloss to dial it up a little bit. Add 10% acetone to help it lay down better.
Just about done with the BR repack.

I installed new cabinet protectors with 1/4 screws to shim the legs off. D8790043-819C-4050-83CA-6FE4C5EC0DEA (resized).jpeg
The original legs are just crimped too tight so I replaced those. C458B1EA-53BB-407E-A73F-D11EF5AEA6B3 (resized).jpeg76DFA01E-89F6-4194-9F84-B48A057FC52C (resized).jpeg

New post and rubber full LEDs with LED OCD board
Thanks for the info on the paint/primer Chris.
Your grass looks great! Yea I love Spring and I hate Spring. Everything starts looking great but man its a lot of work!
Quoted from High_End_Pins:It’s that time of the year again 15yards but I have already been at it. [quoted image]
Started making a dent in it. [quoted image]
Long way to go. No workout today.

Why not just have more grass / smaller beds?
