Hopefully the process won't involve the phrase "Head is removed from the lower."

Undergoing as we speak.
Look back a few pages where he is starting an exercise regime and healthier eating habits.

There were some times in his teens I thought that might be the best approach
IJ coils are done
These were all beat.
The POA was polished and rebuilt.
I like to run closed tight looms on these for the wiring areas that might drag the ball or hit other parts as it tilts.
A bevel is also something I see value in since the inner edge tends to bottom out on the raise the jackpot sign bracket when in the right most position.
About one ply is beveled out.
The final detail on Spirit 2 is the backglass.
This game needed one. image (resized).jpg

Luckily someone here helped me out and I was able to source a replacement.
It’s a bit more vivid but looks great from all angles.
Quoted from heni1977:Is your vice on a sway bar?
No it is on a swivel stand. Made by Hercules I believe.

Now that's one nice looking game!
Quoted from Pinballer73:Now that's one nice looking game!
Interesting comment depending upon which word is accentuated:
NOW that's one nice looking game. (Implies it wasn't looking so good until the backglass was replaced.)
Now THAT'S one nice looking game. (Implies it looks better than the other HEP Spririt restores.)
Now that's ONE nice looking game. (Implies it's the only HEP Spirit restore that looks really good.)
Now that's one NICE looking game. (The genuine compliment probably intended by Pinballer73.)
Now that's one nice LOOKING game. (Implies the game doesn't function or play as good as it looks.)
Now that's one nice looking GAME. (A compliment that implies that most games aren't nice looking.)
That is super sharp! Love spirit one of the funner pins to play.
Quoted from littlecammi:Now that's ONE nice looking game. (Implies it's the only HEP Spirit restore that looks really good.)
I would go with this one!
littlecammi might be a retired english lit proffersor!
Spirit 2 playfield.
Quoted from High_End_Pins:One thing I thought about after finishing Spirit 1 was that I would like to have a little easier glide and protection for the playfield underside.
On Spirit 2 I plan to address that.
Here is the area of concern on the original. [quoted image]
I bought some Stern brackets.
[quoted image]
I then straightened the round out. [quoted image]
This allows me to tuck them in. [quoted image]
[quoted image]
This should be an improvement.[quoted image]
thanks once again for the Stern bracket idea (just noticed them in your photos). I added them to my alien star I just finished up and they make it so much nicer to slide out and stand up. note: my alien star is on system 1 metal supports instead of the normal wood ones as I built the cabinet and had the sys1 ones.

So you're not burning the logo in anymore? Why not punch the refurb date in like they did with serial numbers back then so there's no chance of it fading or being lost somehow? A paper label seems very fragile...

It'd fit right in to the look of everything else in the backbox and wouldn't have all that ugly extra cord, you could cut the wire to fit.

I don’t burn the gray playfields because they smoke and ruin the branding iron.

That is just what they supply with the display set.
It has a warranty so I wouldn’t make too many changes.
The one thing I did do is make a factory style plug and keep everything in the backbox that is tapped off the line filter with color correct wire and then into a two pin molex so it is hidden.
This at least saves the service outlet which is supposed to be the power source
I have used dedicated power supply’s on games with numerous mods but for this single need it is fine. there are two boards eliminated already from the backbox and several connectors. Much simpler back there. No need to reinvent every single wheel.

Quoted from xeneize:Now you've made me want to add a Spirit to the lineup!
Sure, because all the games Chris does turn out looking great.
Problem is that we'd end up with a game that looks like the "before" pics.
Quoted from High_End_Pins:IJ is finished. Doubt I will take outside pictures of it since I already have a few in the thread.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

This thread has become a great resource.

Thanks. I don’t think I will ever top my gallery here though. It is a really good resource for a lot of things but became dated naturally with the more instant gratification of Pinside which I love.
The finished games stopped a couple years ago
http://christopherhutchins.com/gallery/Finished-Games
The restoration process stuff around the same time.
http://christopherhutchins.com/gallery/Examples-of-the-restoration-process
I have a few games I really should add to it like Spirit,Firepower,a more current version of Fathom, the special EBD,whirlwind and Centaur but the interface is slow and painful and doesn’t work well with phone pictures.
I might actually add the Firepower to this thread even though it was done last year.
I love the details and stories and documented challenges/solutions far more than the finished game posts. No idea why someone choses to index all those posts over the restoration knowledge.
PSTT.. game photos are automatically indexed in the thread gallery.

Just bookmarks for finished games to find those points much faster and easier than wading through the thread gallery. And all the important tips are indexed along with the finished games for easy access, too.
Index breakdown
21 Tip time posts
13 Misc information
30 Completed games
I like the variety of post that are bookmarked.
Some people are going to come here for tips and knowledge others for eye candy so I think it great overall.
Quoted from High_End_Pins:Some people are going to come here for tips and knowledge others for eye candy.
And some people (me included) should stay away so they don't get disappointed with the lesser quality of their own games.
Both these are leaving tomorrow.

The IJ is going on it’s legs in its natural position which I am not a big fan of on a finished game but the recipient is not a pinball person at all and request that there be the absolute minimum amount of set up upon arrival.
This is tough call but I have seen many people damage games trying to unpack, unpalletize and set up. I have also had way more tech issues with those types after the fact so my hope is if it shows up in the ready to go position these concerns will be avoided.
First thing I am going to do is put these on which I also hate but since I have the metal plates on already it is just a little more insurance. More of a packing item above all else. Sometimes the news isn’t always pretty here but this is the reality of trying to meet all types of customers needs.

First HEP class of 2020 graduates...
The IJ is packed.
The protectors are placed over the protectors.
The levelers are run all the way down and then cranked down with a keep nut.
I wrapped the hell out of it and labeled it. My hope is they can unwrap them just put the cord in the back and power it up /start playing.
Every common sense label possible is placed.
