Quoted from High_End_Pins:

F-14 playfield is wired.
Very time consuming with all the snubbers, targets, resistor boards and coils
[quoted image]

Man, that playfield is loaded!

Quoted from Flynnyfalcon:

Can the owners of the Whirlwind and Quicksilver recently brought into the house of HEP please pay their bills, I wanna see their resto start

Haha, I’m not sure if you’re talking about the Whirlwind I sent Chris. I’m gladly pay to have him start! Unfortunately, there’s probably a couple WWs in front of mine.

#8053 3 years ago

Got the cabinet wired.
I decided kind of at the last minute to put the shaker in it.
Theme wise it just makes sense.

I think that is an awesome idea if it interacts with the engines.

Make sure you hook the diverter power up to the pop bumper power and not the line of death kickback coil power. This will keep the TIPs from melting.

[quoted image]

Good tip .
This is a sample game so it is already wired that way without modification.
I have 18 gauge wire red/black so that is what you see there instead of red/white.

#8057 3 years ago

The back panel of this game is set up in a way that can easily create shorts in the flasher lamp sockets 0845AB0F-E32A-4D3A-86DF-C238EC291373 (resized).jpeg0845AB0F-E32A-4D3A-86DF-C238EC291373 (resized).jpeg

I will swap those and rewire it a bit for a lower profile easy to service socket. 6B831802-08C9-4728-BE0D-DF893173F934 (resized).jpeg6B831802-08C9-4728-BE0D-DF893173F934 (resized).jpeg

Did that and installed red domes in place of the clear. The clear are cool from a “it’s a sample game” perspective but are really just blinding when in use. Red is a better choice

Playfield is in the cabinet. B295D981-16E0-4038-8E9F-A9B2C516E0A8 (resized).jpegB295D981-16E0-4038-8E9F-A9B2C516E0A8 (resized).jpeg

I need to decide on which center dome to run.

The white does a nice job of hiding the mech within.
The clear matches the others a bit better because of the translucency but shows the mech as if nothing is there.

I vote clear

#8060 3 years ago

clear please...

and she is a beauty clark...

#8061 3 years ago

Clear....without a doubt!

#8062 3 years ago

Clear for sure. White looks out of place with the other 2.

#8063 3 years ago

As with all the others, CLEAR.

#8064 3 years ago

Agree, Clear

#8065 3 years ago

Another vote for clear

In America it's Red/White/Blue.

#8067 3 years ago
Quoted from GRUMPY:

In America it's Red/White/Blue.

I came this close to doing that on the backboard but just couldn’t get enough light through there once frosted. So red it is.

Looks great ... Would nicely match the top of the game !
Perhaps regular domes in the same pattern

#8069 3 years ago

I would like the red white and blue if they were all clear. Just not a fan of the frosted stuff.

All red or all clear looks amazing!!

F-14 is alive again. 619B77E9-561A-4FDC-8796-8104C29F23C1 (resized).jpeg619B77E9-561A-4FDC-8796-8104C29F23C1 (resized).jpeg

Some subtle changes. Clear DE return lanes. I like these better than the stainless wire guides when possible. Cleans the look up and it functions the same typically. E8166B6E-7AD7-4D42-A29A-DAFC30715EAD (resized).jpegE8166B6E-7AD7-4D42-A29A-DAFC30715EAD (resized).jpeg027B3196-DFA9-42F4-BD92-F2DB2C28B9BF (resized).jpeg027B3196-DFA9-42F4-BD92-F2DB2C28B9BF (resized).jpeg

The pop bumper cap is a repurposed SS version. The dome is fixed and it brings a little more attention to the lone bumper and will tie in well with all the other flasher domes.

I cut the art out on this one with a halo to preserve the factory stencil overspray this seems appropriate for this project.

You can see how the halo cuts disappear once’s cleared.

Your work, as always, is beyond reproach. But dear God that Cyclopes cab has a turd for artwork.

Agreed. Cyclopes... a woman crawling around with her not so great ass hanging out. It's cheese... but a lot people like that.

The woman on the side always looked out of place to me.

I agree. It looks like a low rent version of CFTBL.

I love the restoration, but that one is definitely not for me!

#8089 3 years ago

This F14 didn't look this great brand new!
The detail in these restores and improvements are nothing short of impressive.!

#8090 3 years ago

The cabinet work on your games is incredible. Your background painting automobiles is put to great use on pins. I can see why clearcoated pfs are pretty much a requirement on HEP games... anything less than a pristine pf would stick out like a sore thumb housed in a HEP cabinet!

How many mods are they gonna make you cram into that thing?

#8093 3 years ago
Quoted from yancy:

How many mods are they gonna make you cram into that thing?

Well, the deluxe mirrored backboard mod and Swinks' snack bar mod are musts. And color DMD. Save room for a potential Compy mod on the backboard because it's just screaming for one...

Right now I am trying to get rid of some.

The Tron I recently did was like this also where there is just tons of extra wiring going all over the place. It makes it really hard to figure out what is needed and what isn’t.
Most of the time previously installed mods are not reusable because there rarely installed well and usually break when removed.
This one does have the snack bar mod but I wish I had a new one since the decal is already twisted. Looks incredible, and this is coming from somebody who got sick of the title and sold it!

I assume the side rails are new (PBL or Marco probably). How's the inner bevel on those new rails? I've noticed the early/mid Sys11 stock rails don't bevel very far down and like to dig into my thumbs as I play. Got a few games needing trim work and I might give them an upgrade if the newer rails are also more comfortable.

Those are new rails from PBL. No sharp edges or rough bends.

Gathered everything up for powder and plating. This will cover two projects. The CFTBL and the Cyclopes.

I have not done a Creature in a few years so it seems that the repro plastics sets are no longer available?

Can’t imagine why not. You can get ramps, playfields, cabinet art.
Silly toppers and all kinds of other stuff you don’t need why not the F*ing plastics?!?!?!
The business nature of this hobby is so incomplete and inconsistent it’s annoying as hell.
If anyone has a set they don’t need let me know.
I can buy outright or trade.
