Quoted from High_End_Pins:

Nice to see you back in here Skip thanks so much for the kind words I am not sure I am worthy of them but I definitely am trying to be.
There are many things I am not good at so I am really just lucky that I found a niche to combine the ones I am and make a living at it. So it’s very humbling.
I quit school in the 10th grade right around the same time my parents lost pretty much everything they owned and as a result anything I know or have I learned or earned on my own. No schools,no loans,no rich relatives or lucky breaks.
At 48 it’s not much different than it was at 18 I just get out here and work nothing more nothing less and the results of that have been beyond anything I would have ever imagined .Not so much financially but the ability to raise a family off a dependable income and build a good name and trust of myself amongst total strangers have been the biggest highlights to date.

For as long as I have known you and your involvement in the hobby you've been nothing but a class-act. You have given back to the community in so many ways and it is a better place because of you. This thread provides a great window to view you work as well as how you get there. Thanks for sharing.

Site seems to be working fairly well now and I realize there are people with projects here that would really enjoy updates so I will go back to business as usual unless I am told otherwise.

Thanks for the support guys. Glad the time spent here is worthwhile.

It’s Sunday so I will start with a family update.
Spent time with the boys.
Marshall is really enjoying tennis. I bought him his own racket. It’s really nice to find something he enjoys where he will interact with us. Ten more days and he is 21! Has no interest in drinking or goin to da club unless it’s the Mickey mouse one 8B14CA0C-124E-4F29-AD84-546CB072D44B (resized).jpeg8B14CA0C-124E-4F29-AD84-546CB072D44B (resized).jpeg

This past week I did get some work done.
First off the JD
The apron was rough. I could have painted it back gold but decided to do something different. I strategically taped it off and painted to match the trim that will be used and cleared it.

Looking much better. I have everything rebuilt now just need to wire it.
I cleaned and repacked the gearboxes.
Added some protections to the motor leads and used thicker wiring.

The coil assemblies are all done less wiring.
Some were replaced entirely others had to be nickel plated due to corrosion
All the coils themselves are new.

Now that I have a cabinet for the C37 I can start focusing on it a bit more.
The first clear application has settled.

There is still a small amount of evidence of color stacking. This being where through the screening process one color goes over another and in some areas where several come together underneath the last it makes for a halo like appearance.

The playfield is lightly sanded concentrating on those areas carefully. F17AB3EF-78F8-47F2-AF5E-5E6D501678CD (resized).jpegF17AB3EF-78F8-47F2-AF5E-5E6D501678CD (resized).jpegA47C3307-3E58-4B6F-97C6-8ED0CE14EC85 (resized).jpegA47C3307-3E58-4B6F-97C6-8ED0CE14EC85 (resized).jpeg
Now it is cleaned then lightly cleared once again. BC11E18B-514A-4C0B-AE13-FCF38A366069 (resized).jpegBC11E18B-514A-4C0B-AE13-FCF38A366069 (resized).jpeg4D823DC5-143E-4031-AD13-0FDB9A9BE18F (resized).jpeg4D823DC5-143E-4031-AD13-0FDB9A9BE18F (resized).jpeg

Judge Dredd playfield also gets perfected from the initial clear application and final cleared.
Most of that is just the open pores of the wood reclaiming the materials and minor insert edges. 45484060-9865-4280-B91D-90DE61773AAB (resized).jpeg45484060-9865-4280-B91D-90DE61773AAB (resized).jpeg3C30B322-2D61-4BAC-A324-A84E87442B73 (resized).jpeg3C30B322-2D61-4BAC-A324-A84E87442B73 (resized).jpegA60875D0-D40F-43BF-ACFE-82DA95DC63A6 (resized).jpegA60875D0-D40F-43BF-ACFE-82DA95DC63A6 (resized).jpegBFB6CFB0-4C79-4153-946E-F880DDFE6E93 (resized).jpegBFB6CFB0-4C79-4153-946E-F880DDFE6E93 (resized).jpeg21E3BCD1-2936-4482-A2B7-D350EC9E936E (resized).jpeg21E3BCD1-2936-4482-A2B7-D350EC9E936E (resized).jpeg

Thanks for the updates Chris. My C37 playfully looks stunning. Happy to hear the cabinet is in house now. Slightly scared to see what awaits in the donor game.

That JD cab made me want one yesterday to fill my last pinball spot it looked so good. I was disappointed when i searched for one to buy and all the cabs were different to that one.

#9072 2 years ago

JD is coming together.
I tried several trim combinations and this is my favorite.
I want all the black parts to match the sheen on the cabinet so standard hinges, door and legs.

This combination looks great! The blades match very nicely too. Interested to see how the PF matches up.

The blades will play well off the playfield too as those are mirror blades with art over them. What shows black in those photos is actually a reflection from the other side of the cabinet so it should come together nicely.

This black is stunning. I will definitely redo mine like that. Got to find a black speaker panel too.

JD is cabinet is wired.
This was a full 14 hour job.
Dealing with numerous hacks, cleanly wiring the extra power supply and putting all five lighted cabinet buttons on plugs
I will try to highlight that process but for now I am just glad it’s done.

Ah, yes. Clear plexi over the aux power supply. A premium detail often overlooked.

It's not available via webshop, and for obvious reasons, I would not disclose the contact here.
PM sent with contact info.

I thought the topper would look great if illuminated from the front with small lamps near the base to create shadows, but sold our JD before doing so.

Did you pelt that lightboard with a shotgun, or does it come standard with all those holes? A far cry from modern pins with a short strip or two of ultra bright LEDs.

That's standard Bally/Williams/Midway stuff from the era. Allowed for much better light show details.

I used to have mine up-lighted with an LED strip running along the front under the claws. It looks amazing when lit that way.

JD has a lot of interactive flashers behind the backglass that light various parts of the display depending on what is going on in the game.

I own a Getaway and owned a DE JP from the era, so I'm familiar with the light boards. However, that one seems to have more lights than what I've seen from other pins (lots of flashers). I've only played the JD once at TPF a few years ago, and it wasn't in the best condition.

BTW, I'm really liking the black on this restoration.

I think that's pretty standard for the B/W widebodies of the era. Indy has about that many backbox lights and flashers, too.

Where have I been?
Soldering and making connections!

Finally wrapping up this Centaur 2 conversion.
Did the same playfield wiring and mech updates as I did to the red Centaur. Roll over switch conversion and all lamps built into sub assemblies
