Just a small cut of 3/4 inch birch plywood. I make shelves out of that too.

I am pretty sure she uses this one and just increases the cinnamon, vanilla extract and adds a full bag of butterscotch chips.
I also know that the tip about chilling the dough is important.

Starting this week off a day later than normal.
Going to get at least one of these TAFs headed towards completed

Both lamp panels have been rebuilt and set aside.
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
One speaker panel is built using the colordmd LCD by request 03F5DD77-5F07-49CF-9A21-1688355E89EA (resized).jpeg03F5DD77-5F07-49CF-9A21-1688355E89EA (resized).jpeg
The other is built the same but with the LED version which is my own preference because it can still easily house the factory light board for the THING letters.
The games are being done in a mirror fashion meaning whatever I do to one I at the same time do to the other. That will continue to a point and then will get a bit more attention than the other at some point.
Both games have all the plugs pulled and underside boards removed and cleaned. Both will get get new fused magnet drivers. 11A21BCF-0216-4980-BC3D-DABED20DF28D (resized).jpeg11A21BCF-0216-4980-BC3D-DABED20DF28D (resized).jpeg
Also since they vary a little bit in opto mounting styles both will get new opto boards and brackets. B95911CD-CEAD-47F8-B09A-82B230955960 (resized).jpegB95911CD-CEAD-47F8-B09A-82B230955960 (resized).jpeg

One lamp board set is marked to map the led needs. ECFC065D-6490-4384-A193-DDCE17FD681D (resized).jpegECFC065D-6490-4384-A193-DDCE17FD681D (resized).jpeg

That set is used to place them on the non marked set. The markings are then erased and the two sets are ready to go. Also worth noting I check all the pins on the connectors to make sure they do not wiggle or show signs of cracks if so reflow with solder.

Next are the backbox ground panels. 8A3E34E0-E480-423F-B2DB-394BE1D5BC9E (resized).jpeg8A3E34E0-E480-423F-B2DB-394BE1D5BC9E (resized).jpeg
One is fairly decent after cleaning and doesn’t warrant anything more. E28C7AFB-BCDB-4613-9060-05961EBF3C8A (resized).jpegE28C7AFB-BCDB-4613-9060-05961EBF3C8A (resized).jpeg
The other is made out of an uglier sheet of metal that is more prone to corrosion C30D834D-8BFF-4D2F-B291-48D93D6621E2 (resized).jpegC30D834D-8BFF-4D2F-B291-48D93D6621E2 (resized).jpeg
All screws on that panel are rusted as well this is from the AA game.
6D5DE3DE-D49E-4135-9DA7-5AD4D2886640 (resized).jpeg6D5DE3DE-D49E-4135-9DA7-5AD4D2886640 (resized).jpeg
That panel is torn down then sanded and sanded/polished with scotchbrite and metal polish to not only freshen it up but to also add future corrosion protection.

#7019 4 years ago

After that the panel is rinsed with cold water. 7214D7D6-AFD5-460B-817B-495AF3A88508 (resized).jpeg7214D7D6-AFD5-460B-817B-495AF3A88508 (resized).jpeg

It’s now more on par with the other. 483BE2A9-3651-426F-95FA-879A4F04CC8D (resized).jpeg483BE2A9-3651-426F-95FA-879A4F04CC8D (resized).jpeg34C9BA8C-7029-423B-BD02-8082C5522A6C (resized).jpeg34C9BA8C-7029-423B-BD02-8082C5522A6C (resized).jpeg

Bravo. I've seen every post on this thread and you do unparalleled work, but this is your masterpiece.

Agreed. This goes beyond mere pinball restoration, into historic preservation.

Normally I'd say Chris should use the woodrail to advertise his services, but I doubt he wants to do another one!

#7021 4 years ago

I was doing pretty good updating as I went then I just needed to stay busy so this is the overall on the TAFs today.

First when a game has a topper I recess the bolt heads.
That is a little tougher with holes already made.
63D6012A-A40F-4D18-BFA8-58C0B75DA7B7 (resized).jpeg63D6012A-A40F-4D18-BFA8-58C0B75DA7B7 (resized).jpeg
I drll a small indentation in a bolt to help hold the forstner center.
39E96007-7E3A-4C47-9BC4-DA60011C6DE3 (resized).jpeg39E96007-7E3A-4C47-9BC4-DA60011C6DE3 (resized).jpeg
image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
Then it is much less risky to make the recess.
4F7459B2-0DE4-4FA6-B61E-D6352A4B90C3 (resized).jpeg4F7459B2-0DE4-4FA6-B61E-D6352A4B90C3 (resized).jpeg
Now the bolts can sit flush or below and the topper won’t warp or crack around them.

Speaking of toppers I made the mistake of getting one from Marco. It has no holes and an odd shape.

Second hole I made the piece of shit cracked!
$180?! Down the drain it is made of acrylic!!!

Much better. Made of PETG and has the holes. Needless to say I had to order another from Pinball Inc 5A1363F6-4571-492E-A9DC-523FECC7D1A7 (resized).jpeg5A1363F6-4571-492E-A9DC-523FECC7D1A7 (resized).jpeg

I'm sure Chris has found it's not worth his time & patience to sit on the phone complaining about defective parts to get a refund, but man, it chaps my ass to see this inferior crap and it's not even my money.

And yeah very disappointed with the crap Marco is putting out lately.

Thanks.
I hate to call Marco out so often. I have been dealing with Marc and Nancy for almost 20 years and these are good people!
The issue I have found is that the parts they carry that I must foolishly assume come from known vendors are not coming from those vendors.
For example I am thinking to myself “Yes that topper is from Starship Fantasy or Pinball Inc it just cost $30 more because Marco is selling it BUT I am placing an order anyway “
The reality looks to be IMO that it is an in house sourced copy(knock off) made to lower standards or of other materials”
It’s frustrating not knowing what to expect when it comes to these things. I am constantly throwing money away over there more and more frequently as a result and complaining or moving on is the what I struggle with most.

I go out of my way to find stuff anywhere but Marco for this very reason. So far, so good. I pay more in shipping and spend more time hunting getting stuff from multiple vendors that I probably could get in one load from MS, but the bump in quality is worth it for me.

Maybe because it is different than what you usually do, maybe it is the history, the art/beauty or just watching how an expert navigates a learning curve, I have really enjoyed watching the wood rail unfold into the beauty it really is. I know you don't post game play videos but you do test them so it would be great to see this one in action if possible when done. (and maybe some time in the future do another one, or pre-war even). Thanks for bringing us along for the ride!

I threw a video together for you real quick. It is pretty basic but it gives an overview of the game.

It was a little big compared to the original pencilneck, but photoshop is magic, so you scaled just fine.

Please keep taking around the house pics with you in different pose angles and posting them. It took a while to find one where your head was about the right orientation (Curtis almost became the deliveryman until I finally found one of you that would work). More choice is better.

Head is mounted on the HS and it is starting to look like something.

Seeing your video of the Select-A-Card made me realize that you don't talk much about testing the machines after you complete them. Do you actually do much play-testing to make sure that the game plays well? Or do you assume that most of these will be show pieces that see little-to-no actual play?

Just finished my #HS restore. (yes, I borrowed your stripe wrap and white Williams logo ideas) Looking forward to watching you finish up this #HS.
