Quoted from High_End_Pins:

Both Centaurs graduated the paint shop.
One has very obvious changes the other is much more subtle. [quoted image]
The more traditional build can be best appreciated with the use of a little lighting. [quoted image][quoted image]
Seeing them together is cool. Regardless of which one you prefer. [quoted image]
[quoted image][quoted image]
Either one makes the condition of the original in the background look pretty sad [quoted image]

both masterpieces for sure, i may still have a slight preference for your previous white Centaur art piece

Got everything back from plating for the Centaurs.
$1000 to plate the needed parts for two games

Thanks we will see how it all comes together.
This is going to be a bit deeper than the cosmetics. I hope to modernize some things.

UNWANTED INPUT:That shooter rod really needs a custom metal sculpted ball, but short of that, a polished metal round one or the pointed Bally one would fit the theme better. Centaur sniffs at plastic.

Another Monday.
More Centaurs image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
I got the new ones up on legs. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
Transformer panels built and placed. C5BAABA7-8CEF-468F-A4BF-8AD8A220C761 (resized).jpegC5BAABA7-8CEF-468F-A4BF-8AD8A220C761 (resized).jpegimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg

On the charcoal Centaur I am sticking with the normal playfield hinge system. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg
On my custom build I am going a different route.

I hate the lifting and unserviceable nature of Centaur and Fathom.
You cannot rest the playfield against the backbox unless you remove the playfield and place it in the hold brackets.

It took a good bit but I have worked out a slide system for it.
All this done in the old cabinet with the old parts fully assembled to insure there won’t be any guess work on the new stuff.
Everything clears and works surprisingly well.

#8662 3 years ago

it's amazing that given how long pinball machines have been manufactured, that the companies haven't made changes to ease serviceability.

then again, some of those companies are just now finally getting to the 21st century in terms of displaying error codes and bad lamp and switches.

#8663 3 years ago

that's so great! I always hate that on my Centaur and Fathom... It's nearly as bad as TAF where you can't slide out the PF to work on the mech at the back

#8664 3 years ago

Both Centaurs now have rails and boards.

Tons of wiring to sort out and adapt.
Pretty sure I am going to tackle the lamp panels first.

Playboy build is closing out.
I had a lengthy last minute part delay.
Shipping is so painful right now with the winter weather.
Should have it done in a day or so.

I did not clear this one it was supplied already cleared.
Found it to be a bit thicker and fragile for my own taste but it turned out nice overall.

Wow, factory serial sticker on the outside of the cabinet. You don't see that every day.

Pretty nice overall for a System 11. 5E2E8332-5686-4A2D-99D9-F686F0EFA947 (resized).jpeg5E2E8332-5686-4A2D-99D9-F686F0EFA947 (resized).jpeg

The playfield is a full Mylar. 1906F7D9-586A-484D-A802-3E9643DC6667 (resized).jpeg1906F7D9-586A-484D-A802-3E9643DC6667 (resized).jpeg

I could pull this Mylar and restore this playfield in theory 81D5CC59-D0EB-41EF-BA44-13510290F60F (resized).jpeg81D5CC59-D0EB-41EF-BA44-13510290F60F (resized).jpegAD9A2F0B-805C-475F-8120-1377654DEA62 (resized).jpegAD9A2F0B-805C-475F-8120-1377654DEA62 (resized).jpeg

I probably won’t though because System 11 playfields especially those that have spent years under Mylar tend to either have or develop insert issues during the clearcoating process requiring all inserts to be stripped.
This one is already showing those type of problems ECBBD0F1-C87C-4B7E-B7BF-E9C8271B4A32 (resized).jpegECBBD0F1-C87C-4B7E-B7BF-E9C8271B4A32 (resized).jpeg
I can deal with that when there are no alternatives but it is pointless when playfields are available.
Once I strip it I may make a more informed decision but either option is available to me on this project.

You can get a better sense of the fade by looking at the bolt holes in the head.
As usual most of these games look a lot better together at a glance and then as they come apart you start to find little things here and there that give you a better sense of what it might really need.

$300 worth of orange base coat here. The top line is orange one below that black. Even in the same quantity some colors cost more than others because of the pigments needed to make them. image (resized).jpgimage (resized).jpg8CAB27B2-6058-47B1-B094-B61FAABEBB51 (resized).jpeg8CAB27B2-6058-47B1-B094-B61FAABEBB51 (resized).jpeg
Decals are much cheaper and easier than painting but I never decal anything I could paint no matter how much trouble or costly it is.

I just rough a little color over the repair to see how close it is. You can’t go by what you see here the clear will show the true color best.
It doesn’t matter at this stage it is more of a color check and camouflage for the filler right now.I can tint it later based on what I see once cleared. 29ADC3EB-2969-4F9E-9EF6-E6547110C331 (resized).jpeg29ADC3EB-2969-4F9E-9EF6-E6547110C331 (resized).jpeg

Now I can clear everything.Clear in this case is just pretty much primer. It will smooth and protect the art hopefully start filling some grain.
