Quoted from pinheadpierre:

I don’t think I’d be alive today if I’d been given a dirt bike that could do 60 when I was 9!

The saying "God protects idiots and children" aptly applies to almost all of us reading this thread. And for all you know, your talent would have gotten you through with no help!

Busy day yesterday.
SBM finally got picked up. Took forever with weather delays. It only takes a flurry down here or a mild cough to shut the entire state down !

Had to make some tools.
Almost done well kind of. I am probably going to repaint the tank and fenders a little brighter white to match the number plate.

No I trashed that one and many others over the years all the way up to my 1991 Dr350. Once I got to around 19 and started painting I couldn’t afford even a sprained wrist. Still can’t!!

I have thought about doing one of those to recreate the pair just for fun.

That could be an awesome cathartic project. Your attention to detail and your commitment to "your" perfection are admirable. Anything you put your talent to is simply incredible and a work of art.

Yes runs great.
All new crank case halves, piston, carb rebuilt etc.
need to make some small adjustments but considering how much was done and how long it’s been apart I was surprised when it fired up after just a couple kicks.
Honestly the forks were the biggest challenge

Oh man, I had a 90'ish DR350, that was the heaviest damn bike I ever owned. Kept it for a few months and promptly got rid of it. No way I was going to risk dropping that beast on my leg. I now ride a KTM 1290 Super Adventure and I swear that DR350 was still heavier (and top heavy!). Nice job on the dirt bike resto, that thing looks cherry.

Mine was strictly the off road version so it was wasn’t too heavy or as heavy as the on off version but still pretty substantial. Was my first four stroke and it was a tank. It could climb hills, plow right through creeks but still handled well for what it was and could motocross a little jump hills and tear through the woods.
I can’t even think about having that stuff again unless I don’t need to work anymore. The thing about me is that it doesn’t matter if it is a skateboard or a motorcycle I am going to end up riding it like I am still fourteen years old and at almost fifty it’s going to end badly. No midlife crisis for me. I know what my limitations and obligations are!!

Back to pinball.
Lots of new arrivals this week. I have a few more coming in then I am going to probably call it good for 2022 and possibly further. Just depends on how things go.
These days the games are rougher, take longer to deal with ,the few things I outsource like plating and board work take forever now and people want so many bells and whistles that it is much harder to keep the flow going.
A forty game backlog was great ten years ago.
Thirty five years ago.
These days I am probably going to start capping it at twenty. 82490621-148A-43B3-A1BB-3B5730535BC1 (resized).jpeg82490621-148A-43B3-A1BB-3B5730535BC1 (resized).jpegD3B44A91-1DD4-4C59-8464-25377A27DC50 (resized).jpegD3B44A91-1DD4-4C59-8464-25377A27DC50 (resized).jpegC5C69B35-5B7B-421A-900D-1240505EC673 (resized).jpegC5C69B35-5B7B-421A-900D-1240505EC673 (resized).jpeg

I got them from Amazon.
You are specifically looking for the polished stainless steel 8 inch.
The picture I put up was the replacement on the left NOS on the right that’s how close they are.
I drilled a hole in the seam side using a long screw and some rigid mesh as a keeper. Works great.

Still figuring out the final details on the alternate version. Thinking it’s going to go something like this but maybe mirror blades instead.
Just placed a chrome Williams rail on for now.

Loving the reflected Tommy on top of the head reflected in the ball.

Would have to see it with the playfield in, but I'm really digging those Union Jack blades (I really like Tilt Graphics work, in general).

Not sure what the shooter rod is, but a microphone might be cool on a music pin.

That is just beautiful Chris! Congratulations! I spent most of my time on dirt bikes as a kid and continued through my 20’s and all Yamaha as the dealer was about 2 minutes from me. I can smell the Yama-Lube now! Blue if I remember correctly. Enjoy!

Have the union jack continue off the art blades over the rails to the outside so it looks like it's folded over the cabinet. With the black cab the union jack rail should pop.

Regular Tommy is done.
Ugly weather so it’s where it sits.

Here is a video of the finished regular Tommy.
HEP update 2-5-22 2

Working on the alternate version
Probably abandoning chrome in favor of black.
Using the same black and clear/ratios that I used on the cabinet.
Epoxy primed to eliminate the texture BE0502F3-CBFE-4E96-8D77-B989A3F5A288 (resized).jpegBE0502F3-CBFE-4E96-8D77-B989A3F5A288 (resized).jpegEA8C0AEF-C9CC-4ACE-9B6A-11A0F68973D8 (resized).jpegEA8C0AEF-C9CC-4ACE-9B6A-11A0F68973D8 (resized).jpeg
Then sanded based and cleared. 9637CCAB-0A5F-42F2-BF14-CEBE11AB5606 (resized).jpeg9637CCAB-0A5F-42F2-BF14-CEBE11AB5606 (resized).jpegF8EB38FE-590F-479C-95E5-BD460DA388A8 (resized).jpegF8EB38FE-590F-479C-95E5-BD460DA388A8 (resized).jpeg

Beautiful work as always. I really like the review video where you get to see more of the pin and you talk about various aspects of it.

Love the shot of the mirrored blades. When you transition from blades to your black gloss finish on the inside of the cab you almost have the whole thing mirrored.

I am incredibly curious to see the HEP creativity manifest in the alternative Tommy

Packed some empty TOTAN cabs up.
I have way too much clutter at my warehouse.
Going to start offloading much of what I don’t need.

Okay I think I am back for a bit.
Depending on how much interest continues with the thread I will try to get back to keeping it current.
Never hurting for work nor content but often it seems redundant when your on your sixth TZ of the thread or something like that.
No complaints from me I like the familiarity but I don’t know how interesting it is.
Wrapping up this TAF.Still need to detail a few things but it’s a nice standard build. No chrome no powder no real mods.
Just quality upgrades like a colordmd ,flipper opto boards, detachable cord receptacle set up,LED OCD couple ,fused magnet board color coordinate improvements.

Keep it coming Chris! Even if it is similar, I'm always learning something new whenever you post. Plus let's face it, this is a lot of peoples' favorite thread on Pinside so it doesn't really matter whether it's the same game, dog pics, grilling pics, exercise pics or rebuilding a dirt bike we'll tune in just the same to watch the HEP magic

I could watch you do 12 TZs in a row and still be interested...

This thread is one of my favorites. It doesn’t get old, it’s like any other crazy hobby. Car enthusiasts don’t get tired of seeing the same old model of cars. Gun enthusiasts don’t get tired of the same gun shows. Card and comic collectors don’t tire of seeing their desired grails either. People who love music still go see “old” artist and still listen to old songs. It never really gets old for a true enthusiast, they might take a break but the passion is still there.

You are refreshing and preserving history/culture/art. Without people like you, knowledge and interest fades away. You inspire others to restore, manufacturing to make replacements and collectors to seek and enjoy the classics. Keep up the good works!

This is also the only thread I know of that is totally positive and it genuine. I don’t recall any negativity in this thread and I know I can visit without a dampening feeling of this hobby when I leave.

It is refreshing to have a thread that doesn’t point to errors, doesn’t get into a vs battle of manufacture or taste. It’s just pure pinball.
