If you told me that Bad Cats only had 200 plays on it since new, I'd believe it!

Just an incredible survivor right there.

Yeah. It’s just been sitting somewhere a long time.
It smells like an old country store and all the rubbers are dry rotted originals.
The ones for the moving target have literally melted away.

Reposting this old photo of the white centaur, so people can see the contrast between the red and regular black versions, so they will not have to scroll thru dozens of previous posts to find it.

The topic index has all the games he's completed in this thread. You can click on that and then (alpha sort to put the keypost subjects in order) click on Centaur (special version) and it will take you right to the white one.

Tough choice between the red and white version. They're all killer though. Gorgeous and creative work!

i just love the white with the ombrage on the letter and highlight in red... beauty! when i make a $1M on the stock market i'll beg to get mine done the same

Don't forget the silver Centaur. This one was the first "non original" version that Chris did for me back in 2016. That red version is fantastic looking too!

Bad cats cabinet is ready to sand and paint. BD5D02DC-BECC-49AE-8DA9-399E5818D9B0 (resized).jpeg

Biggest issue on the lower is expansion cracks.

The most challenging part for me will be cutting out all the fine details. All these whiskers everywhere!

Bad cats cabinet sanded.
43EF2653-0451-4D58-BBA8-32103928B14B (resized).jpeg
Going to need some repairs.
Mostly indentation issues from the bolts, locks bar, legs others are just roughness in general.

Repairs are made with kitty hair of all things
That is a denser form of fiberglass infused filler.
It’s smooth like bondo but strong like fiberglass with structural needs like the leg indentions but little real estate to work with a one and done application is needed.
All leg locations were done but just one picture for example.

Now the cabinet is cleaned. This will be time consuming and tedious best to go one side at a time. 1E4D257D-AAF2-46B9-91B4-97C91A2D87CD (resized).jpeg

Mask is applied. 3EF4B71C-F1F5-44FF-8600-FB65A8E45AB8 (resized).jpeg
The cuts that are most challenging will be things like this and much more. All are double because it needs to happen on both side. Then there is the front and the head.

This orange is really vivid and coverage is very poor.
Sometimes colors that have a lot of pop don’t do well without a bright foundation so white is sprayed on the break throughs and repairs first.

Cleared. Cabinet is now at at least a workable level.
I still have to sand it again. Paint the black some other colors tighten up a line or two.
Matte clear it etc.
Was too nice to decal but not as nice as it can be so it is proving to be a lot of work to save it but worth it.

Me: Well, it won’t be possible to redo all the orange paint, because of the artwork, you would have to cut a frisket for every little hair and whisker, it’s just not possible.

HEP: Cuts a frisket for every little hair and whisker, paints all the orange, it comes out perfect.

Me:

Also, you just can’t underrate the fact that you used Kitty Hair filler (which I never heard of until now) to fix a Bad Cats pinball machine.

That cabinet looks incredible. Amazing work!

#8724 11 days ago

I can only imagine the expletives that come out of someone's mouth the first time they accidentally scratch or ding their HEP restoration.

#8725 11 days ago

I cannot fathom doing the cutting for the frisket. Hell, even removing it sounds like misery.

#8726 11 days ago

Chris, looks fantastic as usual!
You bought 3 units of orange, is that quarts or pints? Pints seem too small, quarts too big. How shelf stable is the paint, opened and unopened?

#8727 11 days ago

Honestly, unbelievable. Amazing work.

It is dialed up to a 70/30 gloss level so it will flatten out some as it cures but will still retain a nice sheen.

I can't begin to grasp how you are able to accomplish what you accomplish on a daily basis.

#8738 9 days ago

I am so jealous of how your clear looks....do you add anything to it? .. does using a slower activator help it smooth out? I have always went with medium but now kinda has me thinking slow and steady wins the race.

I've got a small dog like Maverick. When I get that look (Maverick is standing next to Nemo), it's his way of saying, "If you don't pick this up, I'm humping the ever-loving hell out of this thing."

System 11 wiring harnesses tend to work best when left together.
Unlike WPC or WPC-95 harnesses that divide easily these tend to be really grouped together.
I can have and will break them apart when needed but it’s not ideal but if not.
It’s been cleaned snd roughed in place.
2F9E930F-82F3-438D-B019-BF71BA93B937 (resized).jpeg

One of the biggest trouble spots on these harnesses is the GI jumpers.
5450612A-4093-4070-B519-B85C3F14D49B (resized).jpeg

The sockets are jumped together with a generic solid core wire that is really fragile it easily breaks at the sockets and is poorly insulated. A3062356-3567-4219-86C1-36DBBA071F2F (resized).jpeg
This same wire is used to jump anything including feature lamps on this era. 738DC0FF-EB35-49BC-9696-8C33797527CA (resized).jpeg
Really we need yellow and blue here not just yellow.
0AAF804B-05D1-4788-BF89-3CD403ACE30A (resized).jpeg
I will replace all that with color correct wire and replace the sockets as well for the GI.
It’s more troublesome to desolder clean and reuse old ones than to replace when possible.

Chris
This has always puzzled me. Painting bolts with paint instead of powercoat, how do you avoid chipping? Multiple layers of paint? clearcoating? material prep before paint? Just curious as I always seem to get chipped items down the road when I do this.
Mike

#8749 8 days ago

Cant quite read what you posted in full so if this doesn’t answer or address let me know.
The bolts are blasted then metal prepped, metal etched then painted and cleared.
The key is the blast, prep and the metal etch from there on you are bonded.
Having bolts powder coated is actually less than ideal because film thickness and limited color range for my purposes.

The bolts are blasted then metal prepped, metal etched then painted and cleared.
The key is the blast, prep and the metal etch from there on you are bonded.
Having bolts powder coated is actually less than ideal because film thickness and limited color range for my purposes.

Chris
It does but it now raises more. I get sand blasted, but what type of metal prep and etching? Are you doing that or are the parts sent out for that?
Mike
