Nice blue color.....copied from shooter rod?
Quoted from Stretch7:I like that blue. What do you call that colour?
Despite the initial condition it looks to be in decent shape mechanically.
That is Ford Grabber blue. Code is CI
Yeah the internals of the motor are pretty good. You don’t know until you get in there. By then you may as well go through it.
Pistons scorched and it needs some bearings and seals in there. They have blocked off the oil pump so I will sort that out.

Kind of like the old saying "A 15 minute project is only one broken bolt away from being a three day ordeal". And regardless of how hard you try there always seems to be "that little something missing" or one little wrong part that slows things down.
Thankfully these days - with so much available online and fairly fast shipping - in most cases it isn't as bad as it was 40 years ago. Back when I was doing restorations (before the internet) your best hope sometimes was the next big car show (sometimes several months away).
Weekend update.
Curtis and his helper worked through a few plastic sets. The babysitting associated with that tied me up but they are learning and helping with some of the easy stuff got the wires very clean.
The HEP MX project is coasting along.

Will you even need to wet sand that? The finish looks impeccable already.

Yes it will settle around the paint lines so I will sand and reclear it once more. I won’t have to touch the fenders since they don’t have the edges to deal with.
I always put all my effort into clean slick paint jobs to minimize the need to sand and polish.
Sanding and polishing are unavoidable at times but the best finishes are the ones that come straight out of the gun.

Besides…..,,
Curtis is cooking a hot juicy steak.
One of those steaks would feed me for days. Haven't had a steak in a few years now.
A sous vide machine like the Annova will give you the best steak you've ever had. 55c for two hours and then flash charred on the weber for med rare.
I know some people were confused by my latest YouTube video. I plan on getting back to pinball videos soon.
It is tied to the auction of one of my MX projects.
I put this on EBay to make room for my current project. I probably don’t need three but I can be obsessive

Good luck. With little time to go it's still not at the reserve. People have no idea what that little bike is and what a bargain it will be.
And for the record, 3 may not be too many!

Thanks I am actually hoping it does not sell. Thought about ending it a few times but I am pretty confident it won’t meet reserve so I won’t have to worry about it.
If it does then I will probably just buy another project with the funds maybe something bigger but I will probably sleep best if it doesn’t sell.
Mostly put it up there to feel the market out. As it is now it is going for more than most so that’s good.
Quoted from High_End_Pins:I still own it!
Looking forward to having three.

Again, I am simply not sure people who were looking at it actually knew who you are and why this bike was nothing like any other!

No doubt. I never even think about what something is worth I just see possibilities, what’s needed and what needs to be done and do it.
Whatever that cost or takes it what I do and if it’s worth more or less I don’t sweat it. I enjoy the process doesn’t matter what it is.
Quoted from reynolds531:For my own curiosity: what did these bikes retail for back in the day?
I think my dad paid $500 or so for my 1980 MX80 off the showroom floor back then.

I’m into my first playfield swap. Kind of dig your playfield Cradle.
Is that a rotisserie? Either way, what are your thoughts on them?
Other than some pops, bolts, upper playfield wire routing to switches and coils, I haven’t come into much use yet.

Those are windshield cradles. I like them much better than rotisseries.
Building a playfield on them is easy.
T nut.
Populate the topside with the rails
Jet bumper nails wafers bodies sockets.
Install the wire guides, ball guides, through post plastic post
Flip it over
Staple the jet bumper sockets down
Install the nuts on all the through post and ball guide studs
Install the flipper mechs make sure the bushing is centered in the hole don’t trust any dimples.
Install the switch harness.
Install the lamp harness
Install the rest of the mechs
Install the solenoid harness
Install the opto harness
Install any remaining brackets or hardware underside.
Place playfield in cabinet.
Plug everything in.
Power it up.
Check all functions available at that point.
All good?
Now it’s just a shop job.
Fold the cradle up lean it up against the wall.
The cradles are pretty universal.

I have one with the U-shaped legs like in your ES paint pics but those scissors style ones in the last post look like they’d much better as a table to work around. Never seen those.

A lot of the stuff I use is repurposed from other industries I am familiar with.
One of the first jobs I had was a helper in the auto glass section of the family body shop.
Windshields can be both heavy and awkward not to mention fragile.
There was a good bit of prep needed prior to installing them. It was all carried out on these types of stands so when I first started messing with pinball I knew what would be perfect for playfields. These windshield cradles.
My playfield storage rack is actually a windshield storage rack as well.

Cases are aluminum bearings are steel.
When you heat the aluminum it expands faster than the steel. That’s the grilling.
When you freeze the steel it contracts.
Cold steel is easily inserted into hot aluminum.

Chris, I got a good belly laugh from this post. I’m in Singapore at the moment with extremely slow Internet. The first picture with the old griddle loaded. I was waiting in anticipation to see what you’re going to grill on there. Knowing you always cook good stuff I was wondering what it could be… Finally the second picture loaded with the engine case in there. I got a good laugh from it!
Quoted from GRUMPY:Hey Chris, is there a couple of cracks in the case?
[quoted image]
Good eye. They are fine I spotted them as well just stress cracks. Nothing going through or that could weep oil. It’s cast really thick in that area just an indentation for a gear shaft to sit in.
I managed to get the outer covers painted and semi gloss cleared still fresh so s little glossier right now. . 05CC1E78-0637-47B2-BC2E-4DC83F1654AD (resized).jpeg

I wanted to match the spokes up but didn’t trust them to the process because it might mess with those fine threads.
Went with a tool blackening set up. Very close to the black nickel for little stuff.

Not a real exciting update so far this week but I have been working through all the parts that have been removed from the various games in process.
With some added help now I am able to put a couple more games in process at a time.
The lone issue with that right now is that certain things that I have to do can pile up until I get some added confidence in others to take on some of the easier ones.
The new helpers are learning fast and doing what they can do so far very well.
They have learned how to do plastic sets, cut new screws, polish parts in addition to where they started with teardown.
Bringing them along slowly is best. Let them master a few things before adding new ones.
So far this week I have done numerous sets of coils ,ball guides ,ramps ,power boxes etc.
Christopher, can you share where you have purchased the windshield cradles from? I have searched online, but so far have not found them. Thank you in advance.

These might be tough to get.I usually have to jump through hoops to get them myself. They require you are in the business or buy from a retailer but no one ever stocks them.
I could possibly organize a group buy.
