    I feel like, with a few exceptions, all of the Data East games back then were trash. If you can hit the ramp repeatedly, then you'll get a good score. Well, their rethemes is even worse. From "Operation Desert Storm" to "Kabuki". Worst of them is "Aaron Spelling" (retheme of Lethal Weapon 3) and "Richie Rich" (retheme of Tommy).

    Haha you youngsters, I took my girlfriend, now my wife, to Kiss , with a weird warm up band we had never heard of ,ACDC, IN 1976. Was a huge wake up for a 16 yr old rural guy. Still have the ticket stubs and program I think it was 84 I went to the Kabuki theater in SF and saw 3 new up and coming bands the opening band was Metallica

    Thinking about picking up an SSB (Safety Squat Bar)...anybody used one? I think they are great. I am old and benched too much to have good mobility in my shoulders, so the ssb really helps me. I am not sure what your budget is, but check out the transformer bar from kabuki strength. It is very versatile.

    Does the Kabuki table have custom dots or just Tommy's dots? On Ipdb it looks like it has some short sound effects and some custom music, but wondering how complete of a game it is or just a piece of art.

    Ive always liked the art of Kabuki. Only 2 made - 1 for the former Chairmen of Namco. Uses The Who's layout.     TNA right now. That game looks rad. King Kong comes to mind. Ritchie Rich, Aaron Spelling, Joel Silver, Kabuki, Arnon Milchan... all those weird DE one offs based on other games might be kinda cool.

    I disagree - kiss topper goes with the theme so much better. Yes. Because it says "KISS". :lol: The dragon kicks the kabuki boys' asses every time. Great topper. Now, if only Stern would put the f**king attract mode back in the code like they advertised at launch. My dragon turns into f**king Helen Keller whenever there's no game being played. :wall:

    It's nice to see the prototype games are also listed. Back then Data East seemed to experiment a lot. One off titles (LW3 rethemes) like Kabuki, Richie Rich, Aaron Spelling, Michael Jordan come to mind. From what I understood Joe Kaminkow had a lot of influence on these special titles. Cool stuff.

    Data East loved doing rethemes. Michael Jordan and Aaron Spelling are both Lethal Weapon 3 converts. Richie Rich and Kabuki are Tommy converts. Operation Desert Storm is a Checkpoint convert.

    I clicked on this designer's link because he didn't sound incredibly familiar and I was somewhat shocked to see how many games of his weren't put into production. He did have several popular ones as well so I am not trying to knock him. Also a couple were built off of Tommy but still many rare titles...     Go to ipdb.org Type in "Data East" (for example) Click on the "Prod" column title. Feel the shock and awe as you see 8 titles with 2 or less machines produced. I saw one of the two Kabuki's for sale somewhere recently for ~$15k but I don't recall where.

    Not familiar with early system11 boards but System11 B and C have test switches on the CPU board. And Jason we have these Neo Geo carts for trade if interested. We would like Puzzle Bobble 1 or 2 if you have them as well as any other good non-fighting games (asking for suggestions). I think I have a couple more but not sure. I'll be up Saturday.     Usually not one for the old games but since I do Martial Arts that would be something special. That 's actually the reason one I got that one! Fourth black belt at home, the 3 other ones are real tissue. Used mine as a topper... but won't sell that topper ! One could make a nice line with that spanish pin "Bushido" ! Add the mythical "Kabuki" and you get a very special collection...

    Ballyhoo is correct but pre-flippers - I still say its TAF if we are talking traditional pinball. Richie Rich is just a Tommy - not sure if that really counts. I would say Lochness if thats not based off of another game already made - and we know pinball circus is no remake. Kabuki is cool but thats also a Tommy.

    Also look for the ultra rare Data East games: Aaron Spelling, Total Recall and Kabuki. They each have quite interesting stories behind them.
