Episode 45 is up and it isn't what it may appear to be.
https://slapsave.podbean.com/e/ep-45-ill-never-buy-another-stern/
Jason talks about the roles and responsibilities of content creators in pinball and proves a point with the title of this show. It is easy to be tempted by the effects of click bait, but we owe more to you and pinball than that. I also talk about the tendency of people to skewer things more than they should be, even resulting in personal attacks and its negative effect on the hobby.
Thanks for checking us out!

I´m just an innocent bystander so to speak (dont have any pins yet, but building on a game room with plan of acquiring three pins or so, it´s kind of hard not getting puzzled by some of the reasoning from thoose stern commited or sternians.
-" I love theme and theme integration, hence i find wonka lacking. I dont think the theme is as well done as for example hobbit, so i also pick stern jurassic park."
(this is not an actual word by word quote, but it was the as i interpreted it the arguement?)
Is it any wonder all we innocent bystanders are puzzled?
The sternians, as i call them, reminds me of the people standing in que for two days to buy the latest apple-phone.
Anybody care too explain?
Let the downvoting begin......
That said, thanks for the show. It´s fun to have a listen, while driving to work.
I haven’t listened to the podcast but maybe can comment regarding JP, it’s not theme integration like The Hobbit or Star Trek (movie scenes and quotes as modes). It is more like a sand box or video game or board game relating to JP. It’s not trying to copy the movie. But it’s well integrated of theme and sand box game.
To me Wonka seems like a generic game with art and toys related to Wonka movie like a big lunch box. But it doesn’t recreate the feeling of Wonka very well. At least when I played it. I’ve played only around 20 games on each.
Maybe it’ll click with me as to how Wonka integrates with the movie better. It just seems like a various bits of the Wonka movie. Tron is a bit like this imo. Tron is a great pin, it’s not super well following the movie like ST or TH.
So one is not better than the other but different. JP uses the least movie assets is more like sand box (like TWD or Tspp).
Wonka loosely related to the movie like Tron.
Jurassic Park has been my all-time favorite movie since I first saw it in theaters. So when I was looking to buy my first new-in-box pin, it seemed like a no-brainer. But I also really enjoy the Elvira character and the two machines already based on her, so I had to wait and see what the new one was like before I made the decision. Yes, JP2 is lacking a lot of references to the original movie. But rai expressed it very well. Stern's JP2 is like a sandbox where you can experience a new-ish Jurassic Park story using a pinball machine as a vehicle. I would probably buy a pack of Jurassic Park brand tampons if I saw them in the store, couple that with the fact that the machine shoots great and has a lot of fun toys, it was an easy decision in the end. I like the new Elvira game. To me, it's very reminiscent of AFM. But it didn't immediately hook me like JP2 did.
In my case, Wonka was never in the running. While I liked the movie as a kid, I never had the love for it that a lot of people do. The machine itself is fun to play, I just don't think the theme integration is on par with the other titles JJP has released.
Long story longer, my decision was based off overall theme and fun factor. The actual theme integration didn't sway my decision as much.
Also, Dr-pin, don't let two idiots with microphones get you puzzled about which games are good and which aren't. The only opinion that matters for your collection is your own. If you like a game, then that's good enough for me (and should be for everyone else). Good luck with your game room, and thanks for listening!
Quoted from Dr-pin:I´m just an innocent bystander so to speak (dont have any pins yet, but building on a game room with plan of acquiring three pins or so, it´s kind of hard not getting puzzled by some of the reasoning from thoose stern commited or sternians...
Thanks for listening. For the record, I am not an Apple guy. I buy the phone that offers the most value and scratches the itch I need scratched the most. This is not a fan boy issue. I have owned 3/5 JJP's and still own two. By comparison, I have only had a small fraction of the admittedly huge number of Stern games released. It is simply a numbers game. I don't find Wonka compelling for the price right now compared to Jurassic Park. That may change, or, if I find one second hand for a better deal, I will nab it. I have passed on many Sterns for similar reasons ie Munsters, Star Wars and Elvira, just to name a few. Like rai said, theme is about immersion to me, not movie clips.
This is all subjective. Of course everyone will feel differently about different machines. There is no right or wrong answer. Buy what you like rather than what you think you should. Base it on your own experience(s). I have, and I made a choice on that experience.

Damn it Matt. I just repeated a lot of what you said. Well put.

Must be on hiatus. No episodes up for the last 2 weeks.
That episode of cribs, did him in. Someone went and podnapped Jason. Ransom demand is one pinball machine and his wife won't comply. Smart Woman

M VINKOUR III FINAL (Small) (resized).JPG
In episode 55 of the Slap Save Pinball Podcast, Jason interviews Stern Associate Game Developer, jack of all trades and all around nice guy, Mike Vinikour. We talk Stranger Things, a day in the life of a Stern employee, the respect he has for his fellow team members, great (and not so great) things about the hobby, and his bucket list. Thanks for listening! Now more than ever, be kind to each other. It seems it takes more effort to be a villain than it does to be a decent human being, but some enjoy the work. Find it in your favorite podcatcher or here: https://slapsave.podbean.com/e/ep-55-slap-save-interviews-sterns-mike-vinikour/
Great interview with Mike Vinikour. Stern may have money exacted as a penalty from his pay for saying "Spooky" not once but twice (4:10). LMAO at resetting high score for playfield swap and Keith beating his high score in his office and not saying anything. Worth listening to again.
If you guys stop making podcasts, I am gonna be pissed. It's like I made good friends and am getting dumped with no warning. Wtf
