Prior to this thread, a guy would take his pin and put random bulbs in the backbox and purple bulbs in the GI and then post up pictures on pinside and everyone would politely compliment the game.
No matter how awful and brain-dead the game looked, everyone would politely golf clap like it was a big improvement.
Finally there is this thread where a handful of people are saying that they think it looks horrible.
The people who are saying it looks horrible are not doing it out of malice, they actually think that the games look horrible. That's not a big stretch, if you look at the pictures in this thread, you can see that the games do indeed look like pure crap.
Some clown puke people are outraged that this thread exists and are trolling it under the smoke screen of arguing some thoughtful point.
That's basically where we're at: some like the light bulb rainbow of random dumbness, some don't. Lots of hurty feel-feels over it.
Personally, I really love pinball art and I think it's some of the most epic commercial art ever produced. My dislike of clown puke comes from my appreciation of pinball art.
There's something really sad about washing away all that epicness behind a purple haze of dumbness.
This translite is awesome, maybe it deserves better treatment than the colored bulb syndrome.

Agreed. I have a Comet here at work that already had white LEDs behind the backglass and I don't even care for that... I kept my Comet at home with incandescent because I think the art looks better with the spread of the light from standard bulbs vs.the focused light of LEDs. I put warm frosted white LEDs behind the translite of Maverick, as I would never put colored bulbs behind photograph. Many of the examples posted out here are horrible. I don't think there's any better way to light that CV art with anything but white, as it has a crazy amount of colors to begin with. IMO, of course.

I agree. You shouldn't look directly at the lights under the plastics or behind the backglass.

I agree. You shouldn't look directly at the lights under the plastics or behind the backglass.
Hard to say without a single light on in that room but to get to catastrophic levels of lens flare they need more purple bulbs for sure.

Trolling is inaccurate. I've tried to participate in this thread as a member, a contributor and in a constructive and agreeable way. I have also disapproved of some of the personal attacks and antagonistic comments being made, and in turn responded poorly myself. When a fellow Pinsider chimes in without me even posting and throws a random "go f$&@ yourself" without verbal or typed provocation, over a few measly downvotes (albeit downvotes because his posts were again attacking another Pinsider and their intellect) apparently the mods stepped in. That's what happens.
The three or four main people that post here seem to want to have their own little gang, and that's fine if that's the case. Others coming in here, like me, think some of these games look horrible (which is why I clicked on this thread in the first place) and some of them don't look all that bad. But apparently those opinions and participation aren't welcome here.
I got a call from a 20-year-old kid Sunday morning that needed help with his Elektra. Only game he has, but a cool game at that. When I arrived, it looked like a Smurf. Rather than call him a moron, an idiot, and push him away from the hobby, I gave him a handful of cool white 2SMD LEDs, and explained the benefit of removing some of the colored ones. If handling it that way makes me a bad person, then so be it.
To be honest, I didn't really care what his game looked like or what bulbs he chose to put in. I just thought it was cool as hell that a 20-year-old kid had a pinball game, and he was really excited about it.
Good grief, enough with the passive aggressive trolling, already.
This was supposed to be an entertaining thread like the "pinball horror", "worst pinball hacks", or "craigslist laughs" threads, but if you can't refrain from commenting about perceived personal affronts, drain it and move on and stop raining on the rainbow LED parade.

here we have a new fad where people are hugely changing the look of pinball games by putting colored bulbs in them.
they're not changing the look a little bit, or doing some small enhancement, they are making the original game art disappear in a glow of LED light
a lot of times the lighting is so random and goofy it looks like the work of a 5 year old.
why would you expect that everyone would like this huge change?
why are you outraged that some people don't like it?
do you think that nobody should say so?
