Williams Stellar Wars, just outside of Minneapolis for a good price.
From the description I'd venture sockets and 40-pin will get it going solid.
Looks cleaner than usual for the title.

Again, thanks for the heads up. I gave up on pins on eBay even though I'm a top seller there. 8 hours round trip to get it but what the hell at that price. I bid 205.51 and got it at the next bid increment. Must be a holiday thing. I'm 2 for 2 in the last 24 hours on project buys. Long drought awaits, karma.

Go for it! I grew up in LA so here’s a traffic tip. Either take the alternate route through Riverside, Palmdale and avoid LA traffic, or take 5 north, 710 north, 10 west to 5 north. This avoids the whole downtown sit on your brakes journey. If you have young kids take them to Travel Town on the way north and make it a family day trip.

Looks like something funky is going on with the upper targets. Might be missing many of them on the left or have broken ones that don't appear in the pic and what is with those parts that appear to be white plastic discs sitting where the targets should be?

These lovely little arcade relics of the past need a new home! They've been terribly lonely sitting in the garage and gathering dust. They were bought with noble intentions of fixing each one into a monument of its past brilliance, but unfortunately life has had other plans.
No legs, most of the hardware is intact, but old. Some are missing more than others, but most have simple cosmetic fixes.
Asking 300 each, obo.
1000 takes the lot.

FYI, I'm pretty sure Touchdown and Spin Wheel are still available, now at $100 each. I've got to think there's more in parts in those than $100 but I honestly didn't check out either of them to say for certain.

Great for parts, but it looks like it's missing the most important part to make it a complete game -- the transformer.

Everyone (myself included) is looking for the 16b-6 transformers these days.

Being clueless about old Stern transformers, what voltages does it supply? I'm assuming that there is some high voltage positive and negative for the displays?

See the diagram below:

7.3VAC for general illumination
7.8VAC for switched illumination (converted to rippling 5.4VDC)
12VAC for the logic boards (converted to 5VDC via a linear regulator). Also used as a filtered 12VDC supply for the audio amplifier.

Has anyone outlined the differences between Bally and Stern transformers from the classic period? I picked up two Bally 12-225(?) transformers this weekend. Are they equivalent to Stern 16B-3 or 16B-6?

Clearly there is a market for these Classic Stern Inc transformers. How expensive would it be to make a run of them?
Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:Clearly there is a market for these Classic Stern Inc transformers. How expensive would it be to make a run of them?
Pinball Life carries a home pin transformer that’s equivalent to a 12-125 for $295. It doesn’t put out as much voltage as a 16B-6.

Not voltage -- current.
If you can use 5v leds for the displays, then you have a ton of choices for power. Switching power supplies or lots of transformer options. Not sure if that's an option, but that's what I would do to rebuild this machine.

The Stern voltages are the same and are in Quench post above https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/post-project-pins-for-sale-here-cl-ebay-pinside-and-others/page/527#post-8206681
I think the big difference is the increased amperage available on the solenoid line of the larger Stern 16b-6

I just made a chart on pinwiki detailing the fuse values used for F4 on each game:
https://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php/Bally/Stern#Fuse_Values
It would be interesting to compare the wire gauge used in the windings for the solenoid voltage on the Bally -18 (122-125), -49 (122-131) and -54 transformers versus the Stern TA-100 (16B-3) and 16B-6 transformers.
The fuses are sized to protect the wiring, including the transformer wires. If the transformer windings are the same gauge, you could probably substitute transformers. At your own risk!
I understand that some people want to keep things as original as possible.
And so the hunt for 16B-6's continues!
Quoted from ForceFlow:I just made a chart on pinwiki detailing the fuse values used for F4 on each game:
https://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php/Bally/Stern#Fuse_Values
Thank you. In looking at the transformer values it says stern 16B-3 and 16B-6 are the same, but they’re not. I think this was an oversight.
In my Multi-Bally and Stern I have run Star Gazer on a -54 rectifier board with a -131 transformer. No noticeable lack of oomph. Played quite well and snappy and I had no problem flipping to the top of the play field.
Shawn
You can certainly run a Flight 2000, Quicksilver, Star Gazer, and probably any other classic stern with 2 flippers on the smaller transformers. They will play just fine and no one would be the wiser. I haven't tried running a Big Game or Split Second on one but I'd wager they would "work" too. It's been speculated that the larger transformer is needed to power more flippers. Meteor was the first game with the bigger transformer and it has 3 flippers.
Now, comparing the oomph between the -3 and -6 on any game has been discussed ad nauseam in the classic stern club thread. It's a noticeable difference in the power you receive, at least in my experience.
This is an interesting piece of ephemera where Gary implies it has something to do with their electronics and sound system. No idea why that would matter: https://www.ipdb.org/files/1580/Stern_1979_Meteor_An_Open_Letter_to_the_Coin_Machine_Industry_from_Gary_Stern_President_undated.pdf
Quoted from bluespin:Thank you. In looking at the transformer values it says stern 16B-3 and 16B-6 are the same, but they’re not. I think this was an oversight.
I found it odd too that the voltages were identical--usually when new transformers are made, it's because there's a change in voltages.
I checked various schematics of MPU-100 and 200 games. The voltages were the same, though the appeared in a different order on the schematics, and the 49VAC voltage was erased on some MPU-200 game schematics, leaving only the 4 visible.
Keep in mind that all the stern games used the same TA-100 rectifier board layout & component values in all the game titles (even though there was an earlier blue and later green board--they basically just updated from 70s era components to 80s era components).
The difference between the two transformers just appears to be the amperage capacity on the 49VAC circuit.

I also double-checked my original copies of Dracula, Seawitch, and Flight 2000--they are the same as the IPDB scans.
