The shoot again area on the DM looks like a hood ornament on a 1950's car

#1904 2 years ago

Ron,
It looks amazing, thanks for making it perfect!

#1905 2 years ago
Quoted from guitarded:

Exactly this. Folded over cardboard from as thin as a matchbook to as thick as will fit, as the situation requires.
And always pulling down from the top of the PF to the bottom when removing material...to keep from getting chips in that clear.

Emery cloth or "plumbers cloth" is handy for this too. It's really tough and doesn't tear up like regular sandpaper. Works well with dowels for holes.

“Send a maniac to catch a maniac” I really wanna see how crazy fast that DM will play with this!

Between the black nickel hardware, pile of nos stuff and restored cab, this’ll be one fine DM!

I didnt want to sound like a kid (putting a wing spoiler on a civic), but one of the first things I would do is dark nickel plate, and I know many people are not in to it but I think Plating the coin door makes it perfect!!
I play it on route often at one well brewery, but I cant hear the sounds. I realize they cant be great from the era it was made, but getting the sound right also! Oh, I like to spend the money!

Pinsound board and pinwoofer speakers make it amazing.

#1910 2 years ago
Quoted from underlord:

Pinsound board and pinwoofer speakers make it amazing.

After buying that set a couple of times, I kept the original speaker mounts, to copy to make more, when I want to just replace the speakers with some 50 dollar pioneers. since they are 2 sizes on one head, I buy 2 pr, and then I can do 2 games.

On a game like IJ I wanted their cross over and set up, and didnt mind paying. their system made that game sound totally different. I especially remember the gun shots sounded super cool!

On my stern games I run those polk PW10 subs which are amazing at a couple hundred, but I got them for less than 100 delivered. for those I soldier monster cable right at the tabs for the cab speaker, and drill a 3/8 hole in the bottom of the cab. Now that I dont have any music pins I gave it to my sis for her ac/dc.

Some wiring porn from the bottom side of your favorite NOS Fish Tales. Slowly getting it back together!

Lovin it.
There are a lot of guys thinking about doing a first swap. Most are way over confident. If you run across little cheats or things to keep in mind or make the job easier or better, please feel free to share them.

Back when I did restorations I had a rule that I wouldnt let a customer depop a pf and send it to me to be restored and cleared, and then he will put it together after 4 or 6 months. Many people got nasty with me, of course if it was someone like brian kelly or D macy I would no problem, but I feel like I saved a lot of people from selling their games as basket cases. It happened to me. I stripped one and didnt get the pf done for about 1.5 years, and I didnt get far before I game up and sold it CHEAP. EATPM.

Here's a tip for the frst time swappers who aren't down for a full set of new lamps / rewire. I did this on my Skateball and it worked too well not to share.

Assuming a working machine as your staring point:
Remove and Label all Coils from the mechs.
Remove the Switches from the mechs, too and then Remove Mechs for rebuild and to locate and mark on the new PF..
Remove the main solder points for the Lighting GI/Control (Pops too) and Label them.
Remove all Harness Anchors and remove all Braid Staples.

Once everything is ready to lift free from the back of the PF. Take a section of Wire Fencing (I use 2" x 4" Box Fencing) and cut it to the size of a PF.

Lay the Fencing over the top of the wiring, pull the coils through the fencing (to keep the weight off the harness) and Zip / Twist Tie the ever loving shit outta the entire harness. You really can't use too many ties on your first go around. You can also pull switches through as needed to keep things clean.

Lift and transfer to the new PF. Locate all of your lamps and anchor points and land them right through the fencing. Clip the ties off as you go.

Real easy way to overcome the intimidation factor that comes with removing the entire harness / replacing all of the braid and lamps.

As for cleaning the harness. I usually do it on the old machine before I do the transfer. Just clip 3-4 Zip ties at a time and clean with rags then re-zip and move to the next section.

yea! maybe get some tacos! is mike having people after?

#1922 2 years ago

I just went thru all of epay and pinside classifieds looking for any pfs.
There are so many people who dont know what NOS means. and many dont know if a pf is a repro or NOS, so they assume NOS. right? makes sense.

Going to PATZ Fri & Sat. Going to bring Nine Ball, Hotdoggin, Kings of Steel, and 1934 Rockola Jigsaw. Will have one more in the trailer, but it's not mine, so not sure what game it is yet.

I just have junky pf's that have been pulled to put in a masterpiece that you worked on. As far as sisters, no, but how about a sister-in-law. But she's pregnant, so probably not what youre looking for...haha

for the sister-in-law!? Dude, if you have to ask, you can't afford it.

Seriously--just letting Ron know what I'm bringing, since he asked. And prices will be marked at the show.

No hard feelings.

I used to have that same front door I think. mine was on a house that was built in about 1921, and it took 40 hours to strip the dam thing. they even painted the beveled glass, so I had to pull that, and strip inside the area it sat in. I loved the doorbell. so did the dam neighbor kids. I do not miss living in the ghetto.

#1930 2 years ago

Ill tall ya, those crates take me a whole weekend to make 15 of them, plus it takes an hour to pack them the first time, but they are so worth it as far as protecting the contents. so far in 13 years not one damaged pf. One had so much rain on it that they couldnt read the tag, so they sat it in the lost and found. I had to call every depot to try to find it. I did only because it looks so different. they charge me 14$ for a non corrugated charge. (butt holes).

So I just finished 2 pfs this week. I still have to clean the compound out of all of the holes, so I cant take pics till tomorrow. so which pfs are they?
tune in tomorrow afternoon for pics.

I think ours is a reproduction, but funny that our house was built in 1920. Makes me wonder now…

I havent mentioned it to anyone except last night i told tommy, that ol louis, aka louie, shit for brains, mouser, great white hunter, deaf, ladies lover louie died monday night. He died in his bed in the shop. He was acting a little sick, but he gets sick often and he has been so close to death that I found him under a bush one day. I thought he was dead, and waited till after work to bury him. When I picked him up he was alive but barely. This was last summer, and after a little medicine and 2 great big shots of electrolyte water per day he was right as rain in about 4 days.
This time it wasn't as dramatic. He didnt show up for breakfast, and when i made it out to work, dum dum was dead.
The vet says he was over 15 years old, and he lived a gangsta life on the north side of kalamazoo, before coming out to the country. So he spent at least 10 years dodging pit bulls and feral cats 4 times his size. I am pretty sure thats why he usually made him self pretty scarce when anyone new showed up, or if there was work to be done. I think being as small as he was, he used personality to stay alive.

of course louie left me a present coiled up about 5 ft from his bed in my shop that I noticed before I noticed he was dead. true till the end. dumb cat.
