Ignore me and keep those pics coming! Keep hitting refresh every 5 minutes on this post and the site.

Seriously this is like playfield porn! I can’t get enough!

I forgot to write down the date on this one for one of the people doing some research on the differences. I will post it tomorrow. It seems like every pf has a buttload of mylar, and each piece has at least one bubble to screw up my photographs.
There is a scratch on the keyline around the door insert, and a little scratch in the drain area in front of the apron

One more. This is the only one dimpled of the 10 I have cleaned and photographed. dimpling is not a biggie, lately a majority of the nos pfs that come thru here need to be dimpled.

Hello kitty! What's your cats name?

#855 8 months ago

The playfields are great Ron! And I’m also wanting to know more about your furry buddy.

#856 8 months ago

Ron’s got all the good stuff now!! Way to go!

Upvoted because of the picture of your furry helper inspecting the playfields.

I’m thinking the same? Cat have a name?

It appears those playfields are missing more than just dimples, Ron. Not only were dimples added in house, but so were many post holes and the like. I've never heard why this was done.

If the Addams is like most NOS I've seen in the past, it'll be missing somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 holes. Fifteen of them are for the pop bumper bracket posts alone. There appears to be no holes for the posts around the electric chair either.

Looking at the BSD, that one might be fine.

You might want to double check them all. I'd hate to have you go through the work of clearing them only to find out later, you need to drill some holes.

BTW, amazing buy! If I had had the chance, I would have bought them all too!

Ron -
I'll take this TZ field. With you clearing and dimpling it.

That one is an early sample. Has the usual tell-tale sample signs on it (green lock insert, etc.) but it ALSO has a fully-green rocket arrow pointing to the main lamp. This was changed earlier in sample run to green/white, before the lock insert was changed.

This is the field that MY game has, and my playfield was not cured right back in the day, and is woefully soft. It was redone by HEP in '16, and is already starting to show issues. I never thought I'd find another NOS playfield like it to match what I had to be able to keep my game as it was from factory. (Mirco's 3-magnet field does not have some of these artwork differences eaither - he just slapped a 3rd magnet hole on a production field.) Other small difference you will notice include a post hole over behind the UR flipper, with artwork cut out around it that was removed, and a whole bunch of T-Nut routings on the underside of the field.

Great point on why they did the post hole and pop bumper holes at the production facility. They must have had it set up that way for some reason. I have made a drill and dimple pattern for about 30-40 titles, which is a drop in a 5 gal bucket. It takes some hours to make the templates, and its not a lot of fun. I like to make them out of 1/4 in lexon (plexi glass) which is not cheap. Years ago, at Alaro steel they had a stack of about 30 sheets of thicker than 1/4 in plexi in rough cut sizes of 45x45. So cutting them in half does both sides of a pf. they wanted 60 a sheet for them and I made an offer on the whole pile. when I made the offer I didnt remember I was driving kia. It was one of those chances to buy materials before needing them at the right price, rather than when you needed it yesterday.
Anyway I charge 300 to drill and dimple pfs. Some have well over 200 on the back and over 100 on the front. Its plenty of work. Its also stressful because I have to be as accurate as I possibly can. I have refined my process for this task several times. I use a used pf or a nos that is dimpled to make the template, and I carefully clamp the plexi to the donor pf. That would be the only damage to the donor, is if I was not careful when clamping. I dont drill at that point. I mark with an all. then I color code the little spots and make a legend of colors/sizes and then I drill the holes in the plexi on the bench. I always draw and measure reference points since the pfs dont all sit on the wood in the same places. With 3 or 4 companies making the pfs, there is so much variety in the pfs of one title

As you said, on a drilled and dimpled NOS TAF, I still have to drill the pop bumper holes. The holes for the outside edge pieces, often, also. I was working on a NOS pf last week that needed only the holes for the outside edge pieces. I guess its not super important where they go, but it was a early 1980's title and the holes for the pf side or edge pieces are all in the same place (usually).

That cats name is louie. His owners lived on the north side of kazoo where he was an outdoor cat for like 8 years. That area is full of ferial mean, big, people and cats! Its a hard neighborhood, so he was pretty happy to have his own 10 acres and a house 900 ft from the road. He was hired as a mouser, but he gave up even looking busy, as soon as he got tenure. If I dont walk the trails with him daily he gets a little pissy. He is a survivor, and I respect that about him, a bit of a dandy also. He is loosing his sight in the last year, and has not adapted yet. we both squint a lot.

Coyote-

Back off son! Messaged Ron last night about this.

Seriously though I asked "how much you thinking?" which translates roughly: if you have to ask you probably can't afford it.

You got a decent playfield you swapping it out with? Might be interested in your old one. Unless you plan to use this as wall art.

Hah! Fair enough. I didn't jump on it last night because I wanted to make sure it matched mine.

I would have an old one, yes - however - and this is why I'm looking to replace it:
My playfield is 'soft' - like it was never cured/dried properly. So when I GOT the game, back in '96 the rocket kicker was completely destroyed. See pic. This was due to a slingshot kicker arm mounted on the rocket kicker - that top lip would be adding downward pressure on the ball, which, over 3 years in operation, caused the divot to be SO BAD that the rocket kicker started to LAUNCH the ball into the air and HIT the main ramp crossover wireform. Other ball-drop areas were soft as well - I could feel the wood give under my finger, and where the main ramp drops the ball off at the left inlane switch, the wood was completely torn up there too. Slingshot and other posts that need to be tightened down were slowly sinking into the wood. Those 1/4 wood hex screws? At least 2/3 were stripped and wouldn't hold, and needed bamboo support. Some more than one bamboo skewer.

The fix in the image is some wood putty I found that was from the late 70's - I do not know what that crap was, but lemme tell you - it lasted at LEAST 12 years without falling apart. In '12, it started to crumble, and in '14 I contacted HEP to re-do my playfield. I paid a LOT more for him to re-do the PF instead of getting one of Mirco's reproductions, because as I previously mentioned, there are artwork/color differences that Mirco did not include when he made his (what he calls 'Sample') playfield.

HEP finished my playfield and I installed it after letting it cure, and it's starting to show issues already, sadly. I had come to terms with having to get a non-exact repro to put in my game, and just keep my early-sample on display as a memory. Until I saw this posted.

Note though, if you get it! There is ONE incorrect insert on it! See if you can find it.

Wow. You obviously need this more than I.

Cant imagine waiting a decade or more to find one.... I've had my game 3 months so I'll deferr this one to you.

For now I'm happy to continue to beat the hell out of my existing playfield without remorse. Cause it looks like hell anyways.

Seriously, I'm wondering why I haven't raided your gameroom. Or even met you in person yet.

MUCH appreciated, I will owe you.

Assuming Ron even wants to sell it, of course!

The reason I Took the leap and bought this pile of expensive ply-wood, is because it belonged to a fella who was a cnc engineer, and talking to his family, he really loved his job and the pfs they created. It sounded like from what they were talking (and they didnt know anything about pinball except their dad told them when he is gone "those pfs are worth a LOT of MONEY") bally williams bought Linc Smith which is where he worked. He brought home one of each of the titles they did. some of them have cool notes on that back to save for him, one says send back to L.S for " His name".

I want to start collecting some nos pfs that I dont have to sell, if offered the money. I realized when I was doing this deal that if I quit my business for some reason, I wouldnt have anything to show for it. I consider all of the pfs as belonging to my business, and the biz always takes precedence, (because I need the money)

From the pics I suspected there were some special pfs in there. Looking at the TAF,I haven't checked the date yet but I am 99% sure that is a gold, and the TZ, I am happy to find out the history is super cool. So I want to have a chance to go thru them well.
I was a little bummed at first because I prefer SUN pfs, but I just read that sun didnt make the TAFG.
Some of them dont seem to have the milky shade of diamond plate, though some do especially on top of the t nuts. I have read before that diamond plating was a patented process by SUN. Of course it wont matter much now since they will most likely all be recleared.

When it comes to sys 11 stuff (Funhouse) I only clear the diamond plate pfs. Anything in that little era has a primer or a leveler that has a reaction with my clear and causes small gas bubbles on the inserts. I have bought 5 different titles from customers that this happened on, over the years, though never a FH. So I just had to make a rule not to do them. I haven't experimented with other clears as well as other ways of putting down the clear which may work for all I know. I dont have the bank roll to experiment on them.

I am guessing this AFM is a sample/proto because of the colors on the 1 in square inserts on the upper right.
This is drilled and dimpled, though the back needs to be sanded and sealed. You can see where i removed the corroded t nuts at the bottom on the back. This was caused by humidity from being close to the cement. The wood is not damaged just stained. I think after sanding and poly would be right as rain. I always sand and poly the back of all of the pfs I clear. I find my self starting to work on these, as I am cleaning and going thru them, and I have to resist. I would like to sell them as they are, and if the buyer wants to hire me to work them then I will start all of the work. There is no use making the prices higher for people who will do the work themselves.

I think this is the only pf in the batch that has gone down in price. before the repro games were made I would list this for 2500 with the condition and sample.
I have never owned this title. its always been out of my price range. It was on route in one of the bars I lived in.

awesome. You are very cool! lets face it, coyote's enthusiasm for that particular sample pf, is pretty exciting!

Sorry I haven't got the pfs listed on the website with prices yet. cleaning the spider webs out of the holes, as well as taking pics takes a lot of time. Hopefully Wednesday. Keep in mind if you want them cleared/worked on here, I am booked in the studio to maximum capacity all ready. I know I am slow as it is.

#872 8 months ago

I have sent the pics and prices for about 15 of the nos pfs to tommy the webMasta.
Here are the ones that will be up today
totan
TafG
creech
sttng proto
demo man
FT
JD
corvette
Jackbot
BSD
road show
no fear
Indy 500
AFM proto/sample
champ pub
scared stiff
shadow
dr who

I am working on the rest right now. The sooner I get them wiped, photo's, and uploaded (then tommys work on the web site) the sooner I can get back to life and clearcoating and whatever I do.

I am always open to offers on pf prices, but I am going to wait a month before I make any crazy deals. MANY of these will still be available is a year.

#873 8 months ago

ATTN: I have a NOS Creech that was sent here for clear and drill/dimple. Its complete, and I know this always results in posts about my incompetence, but I dont remember who owns it, and I cant find the email.
I know someone will post saying its theirs, but it has not been paid for, so keep that in mind. Ha.
So will the owner of the beautiful pf please contact me so I can get it out of the office.
Thank you,

Yup, we worked out a deal. It's mine. He's going to hold it until he can get to it, dimpling and clearing it. With all the jobs he has lined up, I likely will not get to see it for a year, but I am more than okay with that, as (1) I know it's getting a good treatment, and (2) I have other projects I'm working on *anyways*, so I'm not in a rush to get it.

I am debating whether to slip it into my game relatively shortly after getting it, *OR*, letting the one CURRENTLY IN my game wear out a little more. Both have their advantages, sadly.

My guess, too, is that this employee likely saved the one from the 'first batch' of all the PFs made. Which means that they are ALL likely samples or very early production fields. While the Road Show pictures haven't been posted yet, nor the WCS, I would not be surprised if they are posted and have their little tells. So if anyone has their 'grail game' that they want a piece of history from, I would look closely and jump on these.

The hurricane, has a note on the back to change 2 or 3 of the inserts from red to clear or white. pretty sure thats a proto

maybe just a mistake, but I figured they just chucked them. hard to tell.
I couldnt see any differences with the Tom but its dimpled, and they installed the t nut in front of the crate or box, which I have never seen.
I couldnt find anything on the Indy 500
Nothing on the FH
rs or ss
On the dr who the very bottom insert is a little lifted.
I had a shadow to compare, and there is nothing there. though some pfs didnt have differences between the samples and production

I am open to offers and trades as well

On the site once you click a photo in the galary it will open up bigger, but if you want to see full size photo in the bottom right you can click that button to get the really large format of each picture. If you stumble across any that I forgot to turn that feature on for let me know and I'll get it fixed.

Posted in the WCS thread that the WCS is a late sample, early production, as it has the two right-outer loop switches, but does NOT have the numebred (1, 2, 3) kickback lane inserts.
Same for Road Show - it has the hole and artwork mask for the center post, but it does not have that 'Mardi Gras' insert. (Instead it properly says 'New Orleans'.)

Sadly, I am deadly allergic to snow and cold. Otherwise, you got a partner.

There is ONE playfield I have yet to be able to have ANYONE answer about a difference -

X-Files. Some playfield I've seen have had clear inserts in front of the ramps.. A lot others have colored inserts. ALL colored were installed games. In loose playfields I've seen both kinds. Still can't explain it.

Another beauty getting swapped in the coming weeks. Ron, have you shared how you pack and crate? Every playfield should be shipped like this. You can tell you care about what you’re shipping. Like it’s art. Well I guess it really is!

I am a big fan of the gottlieb games, and I have the pascal boards in my dragon,(my only sys 1 game) and that board system is so good. First off it added a skill shot, and a variable time ball save, in case you get a ball that just drains in less than the time I have mine set at which is 7 sec. every time you fire up the game it tells you if you have any switches or bulbs out. Plus if I remember correctly all of the boards are on one board, so no, connection problems, which is 90% of the time the issue. I think it a little over 300. Joker poker and Genie are the 2 best sys 1 games without a doubt. I have all ready drawn the art for a topless genie pf that looks amazing if I do say so my self. I just need the time. That project is about 4-5 years old now...

What would Elvira say?!

#893 8 months ago

I saw her on counting cars last week. she has a beautiful car, though i wouldnt own a convertible. also she looks amazing. I have always liked older women, but she is super hot to me now that I am a geezer.

Back in the day when she was popular, I couldnt get over the wig it bothered me. since then I stumbled in to a wig shop in the bad part of chicago's south side (redundant), bought a bunch of wigs, and now I love wigs. I used to wear my pompadour or my Neil, from "the young ones" wig to breakfast often. Often to the bar, but if someone who is drunk and knows me, see's it, they want to screw with it and wear it. I have no patience for folks who cant handle their dope or booze.
Everyone should go to a wig shop and get one. they are a lot of fun. Maybe you have a reunion coming with people who haven't seen you since the pandemic. I dont post on social media so I can get away with it.

If you have wanted to have a restored game, maybe with one of my pfs, Dave macy of dmacy is the best in my opinion. He is in PA, and he really stays focused and rocks out games pretty darn quick compared to how fast I work. He doesnt need the work or anything, I am not sure if he is even accepting work, but I want people to know that he has my seal of approval. Not only is his work amazingly beautiful, he is a super easy person to work with. No ego from years of being worshipped, and honest as a nun.

It takes extra time to install my pfs because you need to remove the clear before drilling and screwing (thats what the install kit is for), and other installer have stated they dont want to deal with my, well... crap in different words.
while on the topic, if you only want 2 coats of clear, I will be more than happy to only lay 2 coats. Its not what i recommend because a wood and plastic pf is not a car, obviously.

I need to get a decal made for an insert on an Indy 500 I started restoring. The insert was ghosting and usually I can use my glue kit that is part of the install kit to needle some glue under it, and then I make the key line a little thicker, but this one wont come out good enough. They make insert decal kits, but not for indy 500.
So I am asking for some help from anyone who can make or get a decal made. I will take a good pic of the insert today along with a pic with a ruler next to it. I think it has white in it. Its a "Lock" triangle. What is the name of a triangle that has 2 equal sides. The only thing that comes to mind is isosilies triangle and I think that is one with a 90 degree angle.

So if you can help me out, I will be happy to pay for your time and skill. Just send me a pm.

I am open to offers and trades (I dont need any used pfs) but partial trades up or down are always welcome.

As for clearing or drill/dimpling:
I am super booked up right now. So what I am doing is letting people pay for the just the pf, and then I am hoping to be able to start the new batch of these NOS PFs in July. I am not accepting any other clear jobs between now and when I can start the NOS pfs that folks bought. (if that makes any sense)
So if you buy one, you can get in the group to start as soon as I finish the jobs currently in house. Payment for the work on the pf is due when its complete.

Also, you can of course, buy a stock NOS pf without me clearing it. NO Problem! If it needs to be drilled and dimpled I can do that in less than a month
