Quoted from RWH:

Doug Williams

Took TB to the AFC championship game in 79 and THEN destroyed the Broncos with 4 TDs in a quarter in the super bowl of 87-88.

WINNER

Williams just got his HOF nomination this summer, not sure if he made the cut to the next round. Manning and Woodson gotta get theirs first ballot.

I didn't think he qualified because I thought he came in mid season for washington as the backup and won or am I wrong?

#27853 3 years ago

W....T....F?!? WOw...never knewm that one. I thought the Bucs always sucked hard till 90s.

#27854 3 years ago

Yep could have been an Oilers vs Bucs super bowl...

Dan Pastorini vs Doug Williams

#27855 3 years ago

Makes more sesne how those plucky rams got in the 79 SB

#27856 3 years ago

Hint 3:

One man looks up from his grave, the second man to EVER Win a Super Bowl AND take a 2nd team to a championship game. (Never to wear a HOF jacket...)

(I always thought he was the FIRST to do it)

#27857 3 years ago

LAST HINT:

Who lost *11* combined regular season games
over his first *5 seasons* as the starter
reaching the championship game EVERY year

(repost from a few pages ago to catch ppl up)

One angle I like come from -- when considering the best NFL QBs of ALL TIME is to ask:

1. Who won a Super Bowl
*AND*
2. Took another team to a Conference championship (and lost or won) -- (not counting backup QBs here.)

From my notes there are only seven men who have done this.

1. Morrall
2. Stabler
3. Williams
4. Montana
5. Favre
6. Warner
7. Manning

Brad Johnson

#27861 3 years ago

is that Al Bundy?

#27862 3 years ago

Brad Johnson’s brother Randy?

#27863 3 years ago
Quoted from Dee-Bow:

is that Al Bundy?

Polk High

#27864 3 years ago

He's another bubble QB contender like Hostetler... He won a WC game, AND lost a divisional game, but didn't start a championship game with another team.

Then later won a superbowl...

#27865 3 years ago

Nope, "Al Bundy" didn't play QB when he was on the Steelers in 1969...

#27867 3 years ago

Who else besides the Raiders? Da Oilers?

I know it couldn’t be the Saints

#27868 3 years ago

Al Davis traded Stabler and Casper to Houston for Pastorini.

Pastorini broke his leg against the Chiefs (I was at the game)

Plunkett took over and got them 2 more rings -- rest is history -- one of those rings in 1980 meant steamrolling Stabler's Oilers with Earl Campbell in the AFC championship game.

#27869 3 years ago

Never to WEAR a yellow jacket. I see what you did there!

Was he inducted posthumously?

Makes sense, Levi could’ve taken a team to the conference championship handing off to Cambell every play.

#27872 3 years ago

Yup. Trick question by mof. You snake : )

#27873 3 years ago

Yep, I gather Plunkett with his two rings will get a jacket after he dies too.

#27875 3 years ago

Wow the Snake, great question I had no idea.

#27876 3 years ago

Yep "could have" been Stabler and the Oilers vs. Danny White and the Cowboys... (an all-tx super bowl)

We need more brain teasers in this thread, and less pats talk. I was thinking about that question all day..

I tried my best to combine the two, in this little quiz a few years ago...

A top-10 QB of all time list, that *Brady* will never be a part of...

And then... he gets traded to the Bucs... and now... the unthinkable could happen.

How many patriots suck?

Nicely done mof

Not Kraft, he’s a handy man.

Seriously....ALL damn day here too.

#27883 3 years ago

Alright, I've got another one. There have been 7 coaches to bring two different teams to a SB (none have won with both). Let's hear em.

get the easy/latest out first

Andy Reid

Good question. It’s the reason I don’t think hiring a coach just because he’s gotten a ring is smart. Hire a guy like Reid, who still has the fire for one.
It’s one of the reasons I thought Ron Rivera was a good hire.

Here’s what I came
Up with:

Shula
Carrol
Reid
The guy who coached the Denver broncos in the 80s (went back with falcons?)

#27888 3 years ago

I don;t think gruden. He was coaching TB when they crushed his raiders
Unless you dont count the tuck rule

#27889 3 years ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

Yeah I got that one confused because he was playing his old team (the raiders) in super bowl!

#27891 3 years ago

Also I think John Fox took the broncos and the panthers?

#27892 3 years ago

So that’s

Reeves
Carrol
Fox
Reid
Vermeil
Shula
And mystery man 7

#27894 3 years ago

Replace Fox with Holmgrin GB/Seattle

Caroll is incorrect. He took over the Pats the year after they were absolutely embarrassed by an all-time team in the 96 Packers. He was knocked out in the divisional round by the Steelers in 97.

Man I must have totally forgotten that. He really took Seattle
To a super bowl?

Substitute parcels then?

XL. Lost to the Steelers in Detroit.

Parcels
Reeves
John Fox
Shula
Reid
Holmgren
Vermeil

Boom
Man I totally forgot that Seattle super bowl. And I think that Seattle team beat the redskins in the playoffs.

#27900 3 years ago

Everyone has been named. Here's the list:

- Fox
- Shula
- Reeves
- Parcells
- Vermeil
- Holmgren
- Reid
