I hear that amazon.co.uk pre-orders for the game & watch: super mario bros. went up and were sold out in 20 minutes. nothing yet for us here in the states yet.

they're also up on amazon.co.jp, but no shipping options to the u.s.

Were the Game and Watches very popular here in the States? I was never aware of them until the games started coming out on the Gameboy Advance. So with this color scheme, it's not a Must Purchase for me. But I know I'll eventually want one when they're all sold out and going for $150+ on ebay. ha.

#2403 3 years ago

Hopefully us Canadians don't get screwed out of buying the new Super Mario game and watch. It will look good next to my pinball card game.

I remember my dentist had one for me to play with While my sister was getting a cleaning. This would have been in the early 80’s

I just finished a cabinet for my retro consoles; they’re on hinged shelves that hide the controllers underneath. Each of them are connected to the Sony CRT in the corner, or I can play with the projector on the back wall. The two drawers in the middle hide extra Controllers, accessories and wires. I like how it turned out, but I might get some led’s to light it up a bit over each console. The last spot on the bottom right is for a PS3, but it is currently sitting connected to my racing seat.

I also have several mini consoles, but since they’re all HDMI they are on another tv. 1A90F38B-95B3-4447-86ED-33C061A4A296 (resized).jpeg1A90F38B-95B3-4447-86ED-33C061A4A296 (resized).jpeg

Picked up a Wii game stack for $10 today. I forgot how fun Donkey Kong Returns is. I'm glad I plugged my old Wii last week. I'm about half way thru Zelda Link to the Past also after a week of playing it.

Replaced the screen and shell on my GBA SP. Pretty awesome mod. The new screen is night and day better.

Nice -- and one of the best games on the system to test it out to boot!

#2411 3 years ago

Wow. Where do you get that screen. That looks so much better

#2412 3 years ago

There's kits all over ebay, aliexpress etc. Search for 'GBA SP IPS V2 screen'

Since its close to October, I just started to play Silent Hill on ps1 for the first time. I know this was mentioned on pinside like 8 years ago in a different thread, but I didn't expect to see this. At first I'm like that's got to be a MM, the you pick up the map and yep definitely a MM lol.

What did you do to reverse the yellowing of the plastic?

#2416 3 years ago

Yep and fixed missing vertical lines.

#2417 3 years ago
Quoted from Deaconblooze:

My guess is “retro bright” basically Soak in a bath of peroxide and water in direct sunlight for a couple hours.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retr0bright

#2418 3 years ago

Sorry, read that last post wrong.

Yeah, basic retrobrighting. More specifically, salon care liquid developer, aka peroxide and sunlight.

#2419 3 years ago

You can recover the vertical lines by heating up the connector to the screen with a soldering iron to reflow the pins

#2420 3 years ago
Quoted from Deaconblooze:

There's a whole topic about removing yellowing from plastics (mostly about pinball parts, but some other items are covered like game consoles as well): https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/say-goodbye-to-old-yellowed-plastics

And her's a post for a Game Boy i did:

I had to try that with the last Game Boy I restored. It does work!

#2422 3 years ago

Not all gameboys with dead vertical lines can be repaired by soldering the ribbon cable, but there's a good chance. Seems cold solder joints at that cable are a common problem.

I picked up a Space Explorer for a buck at a yard sale last year. Fun, challenging game.

Been hunting for a Simon for years. Find other knockoffs but no Simon yet.

Did anyone else get the new Game & Watch? Mine should be here today, although I might just leave it in the box for now. I have enough ways to play Mario bros. My hope is that next year they release a 35th anniversary Zelda game & watch too

I did. It's cool for about 5 minutes, then it went back in the box, where it will probably stay. Like you said, too many other ways to play Mario.

It looks like a novelty, but I think it’s more of a collector’s item. just like you, I assume most people will open it up immediately, play with it for 5 min then put it on a shelf. Mine might just go straight to the shelf unopened.

#2429 3 years ago

Saw it in stock on Amazon and ordered it. Comes today. But yeah, it'll probably stay in the box. Side note, one thing I need to do is go watch some video's of some of those old Nintendo games. I don't know that I've ever seen the ending of most of them, including all 3 Mario's.

#2430 3 years ago
Quoted from woody24:

I need to do is go watch some video's of some of those old Nintendo games.

I used to laugh at the idea of watching someone else play video games; and then South Park Stick of Truth came out. I knew that I wasn’t going to buy the game, but still wanted to see the story and jokes within the game. So, I found a play through video that cut out all of the grinding gameplay and just highlighted the story. It was almost like watching a South Park movie, changed my whole perspective on game play videos.

Now I’ll regularly watch Games Done Quick. Not only is it for charity, it’s pretty amazing watching these pros rip through a game in record time. I don’t speed run anything but watching how these players break the game mechanics to achieve amazing runs is pretty enjoyable. Even the videos breaking down world record progressions, and how the players have improved their games over time with finding new strategies to use are entertaining.

Games done quick is great, love the tas bot sections. Some really crazy things they can pull off. The brain age and smw ones are just nuts

#2432 3 years ago

Was funny, I kinda felt the same way. Well, I still don't really watch others play games, but discovered PewDiPie that way. Alien Isolation had been out for a while and I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy the game or not. So I looked up to see what the gameplay was like and came across him. Was the very first time I'd seen him before. Then shortly after that was the episodes (I think 3) of South Park making fun of people who'd rather watch others play, than play themselves.

I speed run nes games on twitch and a few years ago i thought it was silly concept but i got drawn into it amd now really dig it. Playing SMB2 princess only runs right now. Getting close to a 10:30 mark

#2434 3 years ago

Saw them at Walmart yesterday. Also saw in the toy department a Super Mario Bros game pak for $40? There was a Zelda one also. Was in a hurry so didn't check them out.

I grabbed a non working model 1 Sega cd a couple weeks back and finally got the thing working tonight. I've always wanted one, but christ, what an unreliable, poorly designed piece.

They look so cool tho. I always get the 2's, never had a 1, but every one of them needed that fuse replaced.

Its been longer for me, i ran it a few days ago to see, it was 12:09. Honestly restarted the first 2 levels like 10 times, but then i got in the zone.

Ive been trying to beat the hard alucard path on castlevania 3, seriously fuck this game. I have beaten all the classic castlevanias and sotn during covid and saved this one for last. Im glad i got some zombie dust to drink while i get pissed.

both can still be had through various channels but to be honest, the tempest wasn't all that great (the spinner does not spin freely like the original arcade title so the game doesn't play as well as it should. additionally, it's a raster LCD instead of vector display so on the smaller display it doesn't look as crisp as it would on vector monitor).

it looks like they've finally hit their stride with the controls being the proper proportioned size with dragon's lair. I may have to grab one of those.

This may be a long shot, but check your local Bestbuy. Seems like every time I was in there, they've always had a Centipede. But again, I really haven't been inside a Bestbuy since spring.

I’ve been looking for a New Wave Toys Centipede, but they are like $500-$600. I’ve got Tempest, Dragons Lair, and pre ordered Astroids. If anyone have a Centipede to sell to complete my mini arcade lineup PM me. I’m happy to pay a little extra, but man...the eBay prices on that one are crazy.

Yes, haven't been in there since about February!
With eBay prices and such, I'm doubting too many are left on the shelf.

I love the .50 (2 quarter) coin up too. Nice touch.

#2449 3 years ago

dang. Had no idea they wee going for so much on ebay. I've got Tempest, Centipede, and SFII. Absolutly hate Dragons Lair as a game, but now I may have to reconsider. Was looking forward to 1942.

I decided to thin the heard. Sold off my NES games since I have an everdrive N8 for it. Going to do the same for my snes. There’s some Black Friday sales so I’ll get one for my snes too. I never play my saga master system, so its going up on the chopping block. I also have a CIB PAL N64 that has just been taking up room on a shelf.
