Quoted from woody24:I've seen those, and have really wanted to buy one, but the one thing that's holding me back are the buttons in place of the stick switches on the console. If it had real metal switches like the old one, I'd totally get one.
I wouldn't let that hold you back. This thing plays great and is a lot of fun.
Quoted from InfiniteLives:I've done it for myself and 3 friends. Pretty easy and happy with the results!
Where do you find your roms?
Yep, my bad on that. No talking about ROM club. Found what I was looking for, I'll give uploading them to the classic a shot tonight.
Just picked up a Power Base Converter for my Genesis to be able to play Sega Master System games. Never had a Sega in the day. Anyone have any recommendations for games I should pick up?
Quoted from Darscot:Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Fantasy Zone, R-Type, Road Rash
Picked up R-Type from a local shop last night. Great game. Very "Gradius-like".
Quoted from VectorGamer:Vector Patrol (translation of Moon Patrol) was just released for the Vectrex recently. Make sure you pick up Vector Pilot which is the greatest home brew ever made (translation of Time Pilot). Vectrexians is another good home brew.
I also have the Vectrex SD multicart for it.
Vector Patrol looks interesting. I was thinking about picking up it, Protector and the multi-cart and possibly a few new overlays to go with those.
I stopped by Gameroom Garage on my lunch break(coin-op warehouse's side business). They had an Asteroids up and running at one of the booths. I forgot just how good a vector monitor looks. The game really pops off the screen. Can't wait until I can fire this thing up...
It's funny you mention batteries. I just threw my old copy of adventure of link in the other day. To my surprise, my game from almost 30 years ago was still saved.
Quoted from benheck:People have "done the math" and determined that CR2032 battery-backed games may last into the 2050's!
I checked this against a 20 year old NBA Live 96 cartridge I have and sure enough, it had only dropped a few hundred millivolts since 1995.
It's one of those situations where the battery may mechanically fail or leak before the voltage itself drops low enough to corrupt the RAM.
My adventure of link cart still has the 30 year old saves.
Quoted from Rarehero:-WTF is "Amico"?
Pretty sure i had my transmission rebuilt there
Quoted from Rarehero:That trailer is hilarious. Tommy basically describes the Nintendo Switch...which EXISTS already.
I have no idea who this is for. Almost no one has nostalgia for Intellivision or their IP, and casual gamers have tons of options already. The whole "families and casual gamers are LOST...we will SAVE THEM!" pitch is delusional.
The gameplay looks like updated cell phone versions of classic games. Honestly, those pixelated graphics of the originals are part of the charm. Moon patrol with 3d graphics does nothing for me
Quoted from Luckydogg420:I started collecting Nintendo Power. I have about 100 of the 285 magazines. Anyone else into them?
I picked up 20- some early 90s issues recently on FB marketplace next to nothing. I wouldn't mind picking up more early issues.
Quoted from Luckydogg420:I find that most later issues can be had for $3-$4, but the early ones jump in price considerably issue #1 In ok condition can go for over $100
The stack I got started at issue 18 and came out to less than $1/issue, so I lucked out on that I guess.
Just picked up this 5200 lot off of FB marketplace. It's my first time playing a 5200. I have to say, it's not a bad console, despite some of the horror stories I've heard. The controllers are hot garbage, though. Some games are almost unplayable because of the horrible analog stick.
20200125_153216 (resized).jpgQuoted from Viggin900:Wasn't that the problem with this console? I loved the graphics and thought about getting one.
I think people's feelings about the 5200 would be different if it had a better controller. Both controllers had issues and after cleaning and getting then working properly, I still hate them. The side buttons cramp your hands after minutes and playing games like berserk and galaxian with a non centering stick made me want to kick a puppy. The trackball and a wico stick are going to be my next purchase.
Quoted from Luckydogg420:The TG-16 mini classic ships in march, has like 50 games I think. I pre-ordered one months ago. It’s not original, but could help your pocketbook for some of the more pricey games.
amazon.com link »
I preordered a while ago
No, I can't justify the price. Although, I could double my money in a month if I flip it, which is probably what most of the people who preordered are thinking.
Been messing around with the 5200 I picked up a few months back. I had ordered a genesis controller adapter from overseas shortly after and it finally arrived. The stock controllers, even though they were fully working, really made me not want to play the system. They're bad. With a genesis arcade stick, this is a really fun system. Surprisingly fun, given the systems reputation. Some of the arcade ports may be the best available.
20200414_123700 (resized).jpgQuoted from InfiniteLives:We got 2nd place speed run of Life Force co-op on NES last night! Games so damn hard lol
https://m.twitch.tv/videos/658899183
Awesome work. That's by far my favorite nes game.
Sorry, read that last post wrong.
Yeah, basic retrobrighting. More specifically, salon care liquid developer, aka peroxide and sunlight.
Not all gameboys with dead vertical lines can be repaired by soldering the ribbon cable, but there's a good chance. Seems cold solder joints at that cable are a common problem.
Quoted from Luckydogg420:Did anyone else get the new Game & Watch? Mine should be here today, although I might just leave it in the box for now. I have enough ways to play Mario bros. My hope is that next year they release a 35th anniversary Zelda game & watch too
[quoted image]
I did. It's cool for about 5 minutes, then it went back in the box, where it will probably stay. Like you said, too many other ways to play Mario.
Quoted from timtim:They look so cool tho. I always get the 2's, never had a 1, but every one of them needed that fuse replaced.
The fuse is the easy part
Quoted from girloveswaffles:I used to have this years ago:
[quoted image]
Wish i could find another one (That doesn't cost hundreds of $$$)
Good thing is, you can burn them to cd-r
There's also a guy on etsy selling repros of the more expensive games. I picked up robo aleste just to check it out. The case and artwork look great, but the disc was just a cdr with a printed label and looked kind of cheesy. But it's an option if you're looking for physical copies of the pricey games.
I decided to up my retrobrighting game, since the sun hasn't been cooperating. I ordered these uv lights off of of Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0882RTTKC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_P5u2FbBZ0X1HD
They're very bright and made short work of a yellow super famicom shell i threw in some oxy clean as a test. I recommend them if you restore a lot of consoles.
20201215_184320 (resized).jpgIt's yours if you want it. Forewarning, it won't be cheap.
Quoted from timtim:I might be interested in that damn cable.
Quoted from VALIS666:Nice. Get yourself a voice module and the Type & Tell cart as well, those things are tons of fun. Back in the day my friend and I could have a fun night just drinking beer and typing silly shit for the voice module to say. (not my video below, just an example)
I've been keeping an eye out for one. They're rare lately for some reason
Quoted from Viggin900:This just arrived, back in stock again. Oh the memories of street sports basketball and jumpman![quoted image][quoted image]
And no border.
How do you like it so far?
Quoted from Darscot:It is the most satisfying part of a restore. All the cleaning and updating of electronics hasn’t got shit on how it feels when that plastic magically returns to brand new. It’s like time travel. Nice job.
It is incredibly satisfying turning yellow plastic white.
Quoted from Mcshaney:Just picked this up at a yard sale . I was panicking when I plugged it in and the screen wasn't coming on just the brightness was turned down thank God.
[quoted image][quoted image]
Welcome to the fold. Be sure to grab a multi cart and enjoy. If that price tag is legit, you just got the deal of the year.
Quoted from Viggin900:Great find on the Vectrex, what a steal. Anyone know where I can find the 3D rollercoaster cartridge? Thats the only one I am missing.
I'd try joing the vectrex Facebook group. Someone in there will probably have one
Quoted from Luckydogg420:Just curious, how accurate is price charting.com; or is it better to look at completed eBay listings to guess a games worth? I just think that some of these games are ridiculous in price. It’s hard to believe that bmx xxx is worth more then mortal kombat, unless it’s because it’s a rare game; because bmx is a shit game comparatively
Price charting is pretty accurate for the most part.
This crazy retro game market is definitely going to crash at some point. Look at how hot coin collecting was 40 years ago and look at it now. There's a lot of parallels with game collecting.
Game eye values my collection at 20k(I've been collecting a while). I wish I had the nerve to sell it, because I know that's going to tank eventually.
Quoted from woody24:Saw a First gen Genesis with matching First Gen Sega CD system and the first Sonic game for $300. Tried to haggle with them a little, but said the system has been on the shelf for just a month, so no wiggle room yet. But damn, I've always wanted the first gen CD. May go back this weekend.
Probably not a bad price these days if it's recapped and refurbished. I got mine fairly cheap, but it had the usual issues.
Quoted from woody24:Been going through my closet, cleaning things up, and decided to write down all my Sega stuff I have. It's the one system that I don't think I ever sold anything, and still have all my game cases, most all of them still in mint condition. Going through them, I couldn't believe how niced they looked compaired to everything I've seen in resell shops.
I started to look up the value of some, and then saw you can create a pricecharting account and save your games. So I've started the process of doing this. I still have all my Nintendo games too. Will add them later.
But had a couple surprizes in my games. I remember I used to buy up almost all that I could when things were starting to get clearanced out. Like I have a Blackthrone for the 32x CIB. Still brand new looking. Same with Soulstar for the Sega CD. I don't remember those games at all. So I probably bought, played for 5 minutes and then went back to Sonic Spinball or something. Kinda fun seeing how much stuff is worth.
Anyone else save their collection using this service?
https://www.pricecharting.com/offers?seller=vqdus7t5yft4ymskswo4i2hmmy&status=collection
I use gameye. It's a similar app, let's you catalog everything, gives you up to date value, etc. I probably should switch to price charting, but I'm too far in at this point to re-do it.
Quoted from Mudflaps:Ha, same. This showed up and I thought, ‘Who the hell ordered this?” I did, November 2021.
[quoted image]
What are your thoughts on it? Can't say I'm super impressed.
Quoted from Luckydogg420:I’ve been looking at that one, but I think I’m going to hold off for a year or two. I currently have the powkiddy v90 clamshell, and it plays up to GBA pretty well.
How does the Miyoo handle N64 games?
It doesn't have anything post PS1 loaded on it. I will say, it's played every game flawlessly so far. The screen looks great and the d pad/buttons feel nicer than they should.
I have a similar sony wega. They look nice, but I've been through three of them and they've all had minor geometry problems. If you're patient, they'll pop up for free.
If you're on a budget, most of the Chinese everdrive clones work surprisingly well and usually come loaded with the full library of games, although not perfectly organized. They are however, direct ripoffs of the real everdrive, so there's some ethics to consider.
That being said, there's nothing wrong with multi carts. They get the job done perfectly well.
Quoted from smalltownguy2:If you're considering the Everdrive, then ethics regarding ripoffs aren't really a concern for you.
Indeed.
Quoted from Luckydogg420:Did anyone else order a McNugget Tetris game from china? I bought two off of eBay, the first has arrived, but I’m waiting for the second before I decide what one to open.
[quoted image]
I've been thinking about it. I'm sure as soon as I do, they'll announce them here for five bucks with a happy meal.
Quoted from kyle5574:Bonus points for green-screen monitor. That's the same monitor that I had as a kid. I need more pics!!
You need the //e shaped monitor stand so you can slide the CPU out from under the monitor without lifting it. My mom (retired teacher, taught 70's-00's) uses her old one as a TV stand to this day.
That'd be nice to have. Unfortunately, space is getting tight on the computer table...
Whenever I hear some talk about the new 2600+, they always preface it with "it's emulation", like that's going to ruin it. It's a 2600. A loaf of bread could emulate those games. I don't think any problems it may have will revolve around emulation.
How about a little AITA, Pinside retro game edition.
I ordered an off brand 80s LCD game, presumably in box, for a decent amount of if coin for an off brand LCD and... Well just read the screenshots.
Am I the asshole here, or is this guy?

Quoted from Deaconblooze:I need to see the other 5 pictures before coming to a fair and impartial ruling.
Generally, selling just the box should definitely be called out in the title.. but what site has a "box only" section?
It's various angles of the box. I just assumed it was a boxed game, given the "like new" description and since there's many of these games on eBay, still nib and around this price point. My fault for assuming, I guess.
As for the category thing, it was listed under "original game cases and boxes". But who bases the item description solely on the category is listed in?
Quoted from Luckydogg420:I’m getting into Nintendo Game and Watch games. I had bought the Mario and Zelda games from a couple years back when they came out, but recently I’ve been buying the old ones from the 80’s. So far I’ve just been hunting for deals on eBay that have the box and manual included. My donkey kong didn’t work fully; bought it as junk/parts unit for basically the price of the box. It had some battery damage and the board trace for the Up button was pooched. I soldered on a bodge wire and ordered a new reflector for the top screen. Now it works perfectly. I like the simple pick-up-and-play gameplay. I’ve also got Mickey & Donald, Super Mario Bros, and the remake of Ball (shipping from Japan). There’s a couple others I remember from back in the day that I want to get still like Cement Factory and Fire. I really want to try the Zelda one from the 80’s so that might be my next purchase.
The colour ones are kinda cool looking but I haven’t tried any of them yet. Do you guys remember these and recommend any?
[quoted image]
Mario Bros(without the super), with the dual screens is pretty fun.
