This is the official MMr Fan Club thread, created with the unanimous consent of the moderators and Robin.

Everyone who wishes to post in this thread, please read below as this thread has rules peculiar only to this thread that the moderators will enforce.

This thread is for members only. By member we reference those people who are fans of PPS and the MM remake that is allowing so many pinheads to acquire this hitherto out of reach title. This thread shall be similar to the one created for WOZ a few months back: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/woz-fan-club-members-only

The objective of this thread is to create an environment where people who are excited about MMr, are enthusiastic about the remake and don't care about the various issues that come and go may post without fear of being mocked, criticized, attacked, or brought into a debate/argument they don't want to be a part of. In short this thread is intended to be a safe haven for people that only wish to make positive observations and well wishes and express their positive enthusiasm for the project.

To be clear, MMr has without question been a title of much controversy. This controversy has taken on many shapes over the past ten months. We understand there will be controversy continuing from now until many months after the product has shipped to all buyers. We understand there will be people who are not satisfied in some or every way with MMr.

In no way are we, the moderator team, saying you can't express your views or dissatisfaction with PPS/MMr or ask the tough questions, we are merely telling you that you cannot do so in this particular thread as . . . this thread is not designed to air your concerns, it is designed to be a safe haven for those that mostly lurk and afraid to say positive things. This thread is to be positive posts only.

-------------

Slightly changing topics, we expect those who are members of this thread to have a certain level of decorum and good behavior as well. There are some people who obviously will not be posting in this thread at all (the moderators are well aware of the people who have an issue with MMr) and this thread is expressly not a place for those people to be called out.

Similarly, one of the reasons MMr has received so much criticism is the shear public rejoicing many people expressed here on Pinside at those pinheads that had an original MM in their collection and lost perceived equity when the announcement was made. Do not use this thread to attack those people either, that would be a break of the rules. Do not use this thread to speculate on values of the original MM, that would be a break of the rules.

-------------

Anyway, if we are lucky perhaps Rick will post some things in this thread. If you do not like what Rick says you are certainly free to start another thread about it and discuss it there. Please do not bait Rick into an argument or debate, we are all happy to get information from Rick. Legitimate questions that are not passive aggressive will be allowed and legitimate non-negative discussion will be allowed but be advised there is zero tolerance to negativity in this one thread.

Finally, do not question the creation of this thread publicly in this thread. We intend to create similar threads with similar rules for any game from any manufacturer that has reasonably substantial controversy (if you are a manufacturer and want a similar thread for your game, PM me and I will start one for you with the approval of Robin and the other Mods). You can of course PM your displeasure or criticisms to me, another moderator, or Robin.

Thank you everyone in advance for making this thread the positive environment we all want it to be. So, who is the first member of the MMr fan club?

I'm excited about this game, and the possibilities it will help open the doors for, other games and spare parts for existing MM's.

Lloyd wins!

Looks like I am member #3. (Interesting as that was one of the numbers I considered before I picked #97)

The color DMD and shaker are cool, but it is very nice to see some of the extensions to the service menu.

I don't know if it is the same logic that will allow for extensions of game code/rules (though maybe, since support for shaker is added). I would love to see an AFM remake with shaker support and a rules/mode wink or tie in to RFM.

Does the PPS hardware platform have an official name (like WPC-95 or Whitestar)?

#7 9 years ago

I am really excited to read about the latest updates with all the improved features and the multi angle photos of the pre production game. It is just bringing it so close to the reality of having this bad boy in my games room hopefully before the new year!

#8 9 years ago

You think we will get full color dmd, or just 1 color at a time. I figured at launch it would be the one color and an update would bring full color.

#9 9 years ago

This is an exciting thread, for an exciting machine in these exciting times of our lives....

I was told by my supplier that the distribution of new games will be a function of regional delivery location and color of trim selected. I hope that this thread can keep us updated on regional/color deliveries and potential dates. Thank you.

Thanks tigerlaw for making a no bs thread. Marked into favorites.

Ha this thread is awesome

#12 9 years ago

Happy to see a thread where you don't have to wonder if you will be attacked! Looking forward to any news on this pin.

#13 9 years ago

Count me in, awesome times!

#14 9 years ago

Just read the update from Rick on his blog. I'm glad he is doing full testing and getting it right. I loved the shaker test. I am looking forward to playing this in my theatre/ games room. This truly is a new age for pinball with all the new manufacturers.

#15 9 years ago

The hardware is 100 times more important than the software in my opinion. I'd be surprised if anyone thinks for a second the game is going to ship perfect, there will be issues. However, it looks like everyone has been doing their best to confine the issues to a firmware update via SD card as apposed to swapping out hardware. It seems like the software has been complete, maybe for a while, and there is a large focus on the hardware.

I really hope so anyway

Great times for pinball. I'm in from Day One (actually, from Hour One).

So - other than being able to buy a cherry Medieval Madness for a "reasonable" price - what are people most excited about with MMR?

For me, I am most interested in the PPS platform. I was going to sell my MM and keep an MMR, but after setting up my MM again and seeing how nice it was, I decided I would keep the original and just put a ColorDMD in it. From the original announcement, for which MMR was the perfect title, I had hoped that this was not a "one and done" remake, but that was more "amortize the cost of a new platform in a game you know will sell well"

(I love MM. I bought the game NIB after learning about the game and doing the Medieval Madness web site for WMS. Pretty sure I never actually played it until it was set up in my basement, because I don't remember going to Chicago).

I am most excited about MMR, because it opens the door for
- potential remakes of games like AFM, MB, CC (and even BBB)
- code extensions for bug fixes and new modes (imagine AFM play that references / ties in to RFM! or something like CCC)
- new code for the original games (though this is probably less likely than having new code for the remakes)
- not having to worry about parts for popular games for the foreseeable future
- bursting the price bubble seen on A list titles in the last 5 years

#19 9 years ago

I'm a fan because they made the deposit fully refundable.

#20 9 years ago

MM is my fav. pin. Still way out of my wanted price range, but had to make it work. The new boards and led's etc, make this a solid operating machine for years to come. I'm pumped to get in on it...keeping this forever!

#21 9 years ago

I ordered the first hour they made the announcement. Before that mm just seemed like a pipe dream of being able to own one. Not that I couldn't buy one just I wouldn't spend 12k for one. With this happening it was no brainer new in the box for 8k. And it also helps having a wife that is just as big of a pinhead as I am. I wonder what other surprises are in store for the le preorder list?

#22 9 years ago

I am super excited for the remake, I know one of our local operators/ resellers will most likely have one for play in the arcade shortly after release. It's exciting to hear about some of the extra features going into the game.

Did they ever indicate that it would get a full color treatment? I looked for that info but haven't found it.

I believe the last word that it was. When wasn't said, not at launch.

I may be wrong but since it comes with the full color LCD display, i believe it will only need a software update to be converted to full color? Or will there need to additional hardware as well?

#26 9 years ago

I think rick said it was going to be just a update when they had it done.

#27 9 years ago

Yah, software update to color DMD, no time given, not at launch.

I'm hoping for a next gen CGI color DMD and not just colorized dots.

If we are speculating….will there be a charge for the update to full color or is it considered part of the package of buying the game in the first place?

I thought it was included for LE buyers and a charge for standards.

Not sure how they'll charge for it…LE's and standards will run off the same hardware. It'll be an update with a USB or SD card. Will each standard have a unique code or something? I have a hard time seeing that happening. Once the dots are colorized for MMr, it should just be considered an added-value feature that will undoubtedly sell more units.

Didn't Rick post that updates would be on their website for download ?

Didn't sound like it would cost money to do.

I didn't think so either. Just read someone else's speculation that there would be a charge for the upgrade so figured I'd ask.

IIRC, Rick said that the full color display update would be free for LE buyers, but there'd be a cost to non-LE buyers.

Just don't see that being enforceable. Once the code update is out there, how would you prevent the standard owners from just using it and updating? Oh well - we'll see I guess!

#35 9 years ago

I would think that PPS et el would have planned ahead to include a way of digitally signing updates so that they could enforce code use/updates etc otherwise, like you say, once it is shared for one it will usable by everyone. Then the hackers will get to work I guess.

#36 9 years ago

I guess I'm in it for the 'bling' (updated hardware/lighting/menus with improved sound & color LCD) Not to mention the fact that I will get to unbox a MMR LE in the coming months. One of the most iconic pins of all time that I never thought I own. I'm one happy pinball addict!!

This kind of happy? Your gunna need plastic surgery to remove the smile from your face when you unbox that game

#39 9 years ago

Can I get my MMR Ticket validated please....

1 week later
#40 9 years ago

I'm happy that I will be receiving a NIB MM game, and that the vultures out there preying on the pinball community with their 12-15k original MM's will have to come back to reality on the prices of their games, especially if the MMR with all of its updated technology is superior to the original!

#41 9 years ago

Not really fair to call them vultures. They are just selling at the market rate. And if the secondary market didn't have MM at $12-15k there probably would not have been a MMR.

#42 9 years ago

Do you know how much those games cost new? I think they cost under 4k, so if they are now selling for $12-15k, someone along the line got burned. Lets get real people.

#43 9 years ago

Pinball machines are a purely luxury entertainment item so any price paid for one is a fair price. It is no different that people paying seemingly ridiculous amounts of money for an old classic car, or baseball cards.

If it helps, you can think of it this way: A 15k MM table cost 4k for the table and 11k to convince the owner to deprive himself of all the future enjoyment he would have had by not selling it.

Its totally normal for people to value their possessions higher than 'fair market price'.

#44 9 years ago

Some people obviously have more money than brains!

#45 9 years ago
Quoted from yonizzell:

Some people obviously have more money than brains!

Can't disagree with that sentiment. Of course you could buy an original MM for $4,000 today and anyone that doesn't play pinball would probably say the same about you! We're all spending big money on silly toys here -- the rest is just supply and demand.

Think of it this way: in the same way the 10 cent cover price has zero to do with the current value of Action Comics #1 (https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/action-comics-1-on-ebay-2m), the MSRP for MM in 1997 doesn't have much to do with its current market price.

#46 9 years ago

Great thread! Not sure how I overlooked it.

The first time I read about the MMR announcement I was sitting on the crapper with an ipad. It was a few weeks after the announcement date as I was busy with other hobbies around that time. I couldn't believe my eyes though.

I wrote an email to Rick immediately and asked to be put on a waiting list if there was one. Received a reply a few days later that I was put on the list. Only a week or two later I got offered a slot and mailed deposit via priority mail.

AFM is my favorite machine. I can't say whether I'll enjoy MMR as much or more, but just the experience alone is huge for me. This is gonna be Awesome!!!

Yeah and a Mickey Mantle rookie card cost 5 cents new...

#48 9 years ago

Not true. That's ignoring all the people out there trying to put food on the table by routing machines.
