Lloyd wins!

Looks like I am member #3. (Interesting as that was one of the numbers I considered before I picked #97)

The color DMD and shaker are cool, but it is very nice to see some of the extensions to the service menu.

I don't know if it is the same logic that will allow for extensions of game code/rules (though maybe, since support for shaker is added). I would love to see an AFM remake with shaker support and a rules/mode wink or tie in to RFM.

Does the PPS hardware platform have an official name (like WPC-95 or Whitestar)?

So - other than being able to buy a cherry Medieval Madness for a "reasonable" price - what are people most excited about with MMR?

For me, I am most interested in the PPS platform. I was going to sell my MM and keep an MMR, but after setting up my MM again and seeing how nice it was, I decided I would keep the original and just put a ColorDMD in it. From the original announcement, for which MMR was the perfect title, I had hoped that this was not a "one and done" remake, but that was more "amortize the cost of a new platform in a game you know will sell well"

(I love MM. I bought the game NIB after learning about the game and doing the Medieval Madness web site for WMS. Pretty sure I never actually played it until it was set up in my basement, because I don't remember going to Chicago).

I am most excited about MMR, because it opens the door for
- potential remakes of games like AFM, MB, CC (and even BBB)
- code extensions for bug fixes and new modes (imagine AFM play that references / ties in to RFM! or something like CCC)
- new code for the original games (though this is probably less likely than having new code for the remakes)
- not having to worry about parts for popular games for the foreseeable future
- bursting the price bubble seen on A list titles in the last 5 years

Quoted from PPS:

No, you will not. From the experience with pre-announcing mmr, we will forego that and just move ahead with the games that we are planning to move ahead with.

So does that mean you plan to follow the Stern announce model and not announce anything until just before the game(s) are ready to go into production or something else?

You mentioned not wanting to pre-announce anything early in another thread, but I have no idea what that means.

#96 9 years ago
Quoted from PPS:

ok. this is the point that I will let folks know to save those dollars

First official confirmation that there is another game coming!

Maybe there will be a mystery ad in the Expo program like the TBL one that will offer up a clue or two.

A picture of a few martians wearing monster masks with six shooters strapped to their waists walking into a saloon ought to start Expo off with a big bang...

You guys would be really messed up if we had a few in parallel going ...

Nah, that's what multiple bank accounts are for ...

You make the ones we want, we'll buy them.

#100 9 years ago

Ok Moto - how do you pre-announce anything early? By definition, a pre-announce would be early. And a pre-announcement would be announcement, so you are back to the infamous announcement of an announcement, the Pinside cousin to the dreaded corporate phenomenon meeting to set a meeting meeting

I just want to know what Rick meant (and by inference, what PPS learned) by his comment. All we can presume is that PPS thinks they may have announced MMR earlier in the development cycle than they should have. It doesn't give us any idea of what they see as the proper model going forward.

Is it like Stern does it? A deposit/payment plan option like JJP? Or something else entirely? Maybe they haven't figured it out, but just don't like something that was part of the MMR project timeline - who knows? Hence my question.

Quoted from PPS:

... the stuff they do to the game makes me wonder why I got so much pushback from others who do not do this testing.

What does this mean? I'm not sure I would pay much attention to anyone thinking that UL testing is a bad idea.

Quoted from Ed209:

Crossing fingers for thanksgiving. Have friends from all over coming to visit and I promised a new game in the lineup.

Hope you have a plan B - that might be a bit of an optimistic time frame, given that the game hasn't even been approved for production yet.

Even if final approval is done in the next week or so and Stern cranks out 200 a week, you would have to get one of the first games off the line (don't forget a week or so to get the game shipped to you) to have it in your line up by Thanksgiving. Christmas seems more likely than Thanksgiving.

#130 9 years ago
Quoted from jalpert:

I think we're going to be lucky to have the game on the line before thanksgiving. Stern can make them quick, but I don't think we know yet how long it will take CGC to turn them and get them out the door. My guess is quick because they only have so much room but who knows.

I forgot about shipping the completed games back to CG part of the process for inspection. That has to add some additional time over Stern doing it.

#138 9 years ago
Quoted from jalpert:

I changed my mind. I'm hoping to have the game in my house before thanksgiving.

Extra points if you have it before Expo!

#140 9 years ago
Quoted from jalpert:

I won't have it before expo, and it won't be on the line either, but the Stern factory tour should be interesting...

(Foghorn Leghorn voice on)

That was a ... I say, I say that was a JOKE son!

Quoted from labnip:

I played MMR earlier this year.
It really does play better than the original,

Can you explain why you think so?

It may be better because it's newer, but I don't see how it can play better than a game it's copying.

#150 9 years ago
Quoted from jalpert:

Uncompressed high quality audio can enhance game play for some...

Sure, but when I see "plays better" I take that to mean better shots, rules and maybe mechanical (flipper) response, not it "sounds better".

#157 9 years ago
Quoted from labnip:

hi,
good question.
it could be a "newer" set of factors that lead to the "play better" take-away from the experience.
here's what i can think of:
a) shots were strong and powerful, making high ramp shots more successful than on all MM's i've ever played.
b) castle reaction to ball impact seemed more responsive (maybe quicker reaction time) than original MM's, and it looked/sounded really good in that action timing.
c) probably a well waxed new playfield helped.
d) probably new balls helped.
e) due to many of those factors, if seemed to be a faster ball game, while leveling felt good of the pin (and i watched them level both prior). think i have pix of that. I like my TRON LE a lot because of the speed of the game play, and the MMR has more of that speed feel to it. When you start hitting those successful shots, that single & multi-ball game action just gets fast and exciting. It was a very real rush.
f) Sound: i don't recall much about sound as it was loud at the TPF, but I could hear the game. Maybe could tell some differences in a quiet environment (but cay say anything about it at moment). The audio did seam well aligned to the physical action.
Each time I walked away from MMR, I had that adrenaline rush like I do from Tron. I had low to average expectations for it, knowing what playing MM is like (which I wanted to buy for years), but I have to tell you, maybe because it's new, maybe because of some tweaks, maybe because of what appears to be a much better light show, this game is a serious high-speed blast. After playing it at TPF this year, I can say, I'm very-very-very glad I've made this purchase. This is a keeper for sure that is going to get years of play and a few of my other pins are going to get really jealous.

Thanks for taking the time to explain.

(a), (c), (d) certainly made a difference compared to an average 15 year old routed MM when it comes to fast/strong, but don't think that's going to much different on a well cared for original. I've never had any trouble with the ramp shots (including damsel rescue) and sometimes I think that shot is too strong and going to break something.

f) is true on originals too, but I agree that volume needs to be turned up more than they seem to be on location.

MM is certainly a keeper and yes, your other pins will be jealous, so buy them all some new shiny PinGulps to distract them before you set up your MMR.

The green castle lighting seems to be brighter / more pronounced.

Really wish I could read the time stamp on your phone ...

woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
as a pinhead of the '90s I can't even express how excited I am to open a NIB MM.

So excited you forgot a letter on MMR ...

Hope you don't have too much longer to wait ... Nothing like opening a NIB game!

#195 9 years ago
Quoted from TaylorVA:

nope, no omission on my part. It will be a MM in my lineup as no one that comes to play will give a shit.

You obviously have no understanding of the "smiley face" emoticons or a sense of humor. The good news is that MMR will have improved audio over the original so you can hear the funny stuff more clearly.

You can call your game whatever you like, but it's still MMR.

#197 9 years ago

I sure hope you get your game soon ...

#199 9 years ago
Quoted from TaylorVA:

You seem very preoccupied with a game you aren't getting.

My interest in MMR is pretty well documented.

I have a pristine MM that I bought NIB in 1997 that is dialed in perfectly and still looks brand new. The only parts that aren't original are new rubbers, a ColorDMD, and a beautiful custom apron.

You, on the other hand, don't and have been spending your time waiting for MMR seemingly obsessed with my posts here and over at PPS. So, I hope you get your game soon to have something constructive to do ...

Didn't you read TaylorVA's post? MMR=MM.

Correct you are a "Member" : )

What are you, twelve?

You guys must realize by now I don't give a damn about your juvinile taunts and jabs. I don't know why think that your obsessiveness with my posting is going to result in anything other than my amusement.
