Anyone else notice that Punny Factory isn't even a game listed on the machine list on pinside?

#852 9 months ago
Quoted from pookycade:

Sharing Donald Hopkins post on FB as he requested
“Be wary buying a game from #pinballadventures I got the very 1st engraved (1 of 10 limited editions) punny factory pinball games and it's absolute horseshit. The playfield looks like someone threw salt on it before they clear coated it.
The games display didnt work out of the box. I had to wait 6 days for them to ship a part to fix it. So many problems on this game that I am still fixing them and even reengineering other poor choices they made when designing the game.
Andrew Mcbain's solution was to send me another NIB game (a standard edition) that I could swap out the playfields (by unplugging 5 connectors) and take the standard edition game to SFGE in Atlanta, set it upfor him and then hopefully sell it.
That changed recently to "we're going to send you an unpopulated playfield and that's it."
The advertised "pipe handles" are missing my my plexiglass backglass. I could go on and on and on posting pics that would make you ask... WTF were they thinking!?
I want to shout from the highest mountain what a lying POS andrew mcbain is! Please be really careful buying a game from them because this is what they think is acceptable to send to the very first customer of their very first Limited Edition $7000 game.”

Who wants to hear this shit? It amazes me that somebody would buy a game like this and expect anything but a disaster.

When it comes to pinball scams, I've completely lost patience for the suckers who embrace them, and I'm in full "blame the victim" mode. When you sign up for something like this, you are getting what you paid for. It's a "roll of the dice" and all part of the experience!

Not surprising I guess. We all know Don Hop aint the brightest bulb. But I like the idea of him getting naked in the game room and trying to figure out why this thing isn't working. I can also only assume he's getting naked and Facetiming McBain to scream at him.

The whole thing is hilarious. Nice work d0n!

It's also amusing that he's blocked so many people on Pinside he needs to beg someone to be his lackey and repost his posts here, just so he can be publicly humiliated as one of the only suckers in the world dumb enough to get ripped off by McBain on a Punny Factory.

d0n probably figured he could flip the game as "rare"

he was gobbling up Haggis preorders when he thought those would be rare

Quoted from SantaEatsCheese:

They have officially surpassed deeproot and delivered a paid for game! It's a low bar to hurdle, but these guys are officially better than Rober Mueller and the Deeproot team. Congrats!

Nothing says SUCCESS like telling your very first paying customer to get bent. Even if it is d0n. Pretty sure he wasn’t the original name listed for the first game, all the names that used to be listed on the website were probably fictional just to give the illusion of demand.

This “game” and company doesn’t deserve to be in the database. Let’s see how many get shipped, it’s probably just one of the handful of prototypes, Punny Factory doesn’t exactly scream “well funded”

#856 9 months ago

Say what you will about D0n. He's an....interesting guy. I really did not care for him much when he was around here but I could coexist with him just fine. I've gotten to know him a little better through a chance encounter on facebook. He's actually an allright dude but he is definitely a wild card. From what I understand, according to Andrew there is another side to this story, and I am sure that is the case just kind of knowin D0n, and to be honest I look forward to hearing it. That said, Andrew is a known deflector and bullshit artist so anything he says I will be taking with a grain of salt and a lot of the pics D0n provided really speak for themselves.

You can laugh that D0n ended up being the guinea pig that got burnt on this deal and honestly I understand that point of view since he can be a pretty divisive guy. I look at it like this- if anyone was going to get burned, its good that it was D0n only for the fact that hes somebody that won't hold back. If Andrew was smart he'd know the kind of guy he was dealing with and be extra careful to make sure everything looked good before that game hit the streets. Shocker, that did not happen.

According to D0n he kept quiet and gave Andrew plenty of time to try and make things right. Sounds more than fair to me. This was PA's chance to make a good first impression. I'm sure a big reason D0n bought the game in the first place was to help promote his arcade airBNB so I can even cut him a little slack there. Its also worth noting that D0n didn't ask or beg anyone to be his lackey. I think Pooky took it upon himself to post this and I came to post it myself only after personally asking D0n (to which he was happy to spread the word).

The game is a mess. That clear is just...ungodly bad. The amount of slack in the wires (or lack thereof) is comical and yeah plenty of fun to track down when you snap one and they are all the same color. This is only a handful of the issues the game has had so far. I wonder how much down time it'll have when it starts hitting all the show circuits.

Can anyone be sure that this wasn't Andrew putting 200% effort into making a pinball machine? I sure can't.

My advice for anyone receiving one of these machines:

Don't flip out. I'm sure you must feel like a real dumb waiter. But I'm sure you'll be like a restaurant when a customer sends a meal back -- getting everything de-served.

What is the state of the art for UV flatbed printers? Hope it's better than that.

All I can say is wow.

PinballBuzz should hop back on this thread and explain himself. You know you saw this before it went out and you let it go out like that. What a disgrace.

#862 9 months ago

We all called this way back when we heard the sounds to begin with. I can't even believe some pinsiders defended the awful soundtrack. Who the fuck wants to listen to that ear cancer?

#864 9 months ago

That speaker design is so weird...

#865 9 months ago

That is absolutely hilarious. God bless you Don for getting rooked on this thing and telling your tale!

#866 9 months ago

If he had only outsourced the playfields to Greatwichjohn. Sure, they wouldn't be ready until 2029 and smelled of stale beer and spicy sausage, but they would have looked far better.

#867 9 months ago

I feel a little bad for Oasis Arcade. They were so hyped to receive it, right up until their ears started bleeding.

Agreed. I was never a big Don fan on here but he really is doing the Lord’s work for all of our benefit.

At only $7k I would say he got his money's worth in the goodwill and publicity generated on this alone.

There is no way this game doesn't completely self-destruct by the World Series.

#870 9 months ago
Quoted from Haymaker:

lmfao jfc that is bad

I think it's catchy.

"Shoot the ball!"

#871 9 months ago

I really enjoy how you can tell it’s about a 30 second clip they just looped. No attempts to even make it loop seamlessly, which would have been cheap and easy! LMAO, this excessively low-effort cheap bullshit is rivaling Thunderturds!

#872 9 months ago

The rhythm, which is the squeaky sound, is -seriously- nothing more than a rusty box spring from a redneck porno.

Listen again and prove me wrong.

#873 9 months ago

If Danesi doesn't find a way to mix this into a track on his next album, I'm going to be extremely disappointed.

still better sound that El Dorado Lost City of Gold

GO PINBALL ADVENTURES!

Well, I told everyone about my "Adventures" with Andrew 3 years ago here on Pinside, and the shitty books he made! I see nothing has changed with him and his "team" of idiots! I have also not gotten a single cent from my one book he published in THREE YEARS. (He "wrote" the next two volumes) ..I am supposed to get $10 per book sold...he has not sent me any documents or sales data in years.

He should have called this pin "karma factory" instead of "punny factory". He is eating a spoiled shit sandwich for screwing over one of the nicest guys in pinball.

Does anyone know if madpinball got theirs? This name was mentioned in the FB posts leading up to Oasis' delivery. Wonder what theirs is like.

I know of 1 other game that is in a public location across the river from Pinball Adventures at Industry Arcade in New Westminster. Other than a post announcing they had it I haven't heard nor seen a thing about it since.

#882 9 months ago
Quoted from pookycade:

The playfield looks like someone threw salt on it before they clear coated it.

That playfield looks like it was asSALTed.
Sending that game out was a pretty salty move.
Now we'll see if Pinball Adventures is worth their salt.
Their treatment of d0n has been inSALTing.
D0n may want to conSALT an attorney.

What do you know, it IS a punny factory.

#884 9 months ago

Glad to hear there’s at least one happy customer

Yup. Rooting for Punny Factory violates one of the main rules in life, Never Let the Bastards Win.

kinda reminds me of that song "some cut" by Trillville.

#887 9 months ago

Mad Pinball did get one in and I played it when they had it at Unhitched Brewery for a night. As far as I could tell the playfield on that one didn't seem to be like Dons at all. I was impressed people played it for 3 to 4 hours straight with minimum issues. They're going to have it at Rack It Up Arcade in Canton Ohio on July 19th and at Quarter Up In Akron Ohio on July 31st. The Quarter Up one is going to be a IFPA event as well I believe.

Looks like a #2

I’m just catching up on this thread. Dunno who this Don guy is, but it’s gonna be hard to have sympathy for anyone who’d buy this stupid game from an unhinged person.

What? The game has poor engineering? You don't say.

McBain's relationship with copyright and IP law is...an interesting one.
Let's just say erring on the side of caution is not in his blood.

Canadian law is so focused on protecting maple syrup that IP infringement doesn’t even register.

Actually, we're currently focusing on subsidized igloo renovations throughout the provinces. The syrup is considered protected.

did he change the description already? I can't find that particular wording. If he saw this and then immediately changed it that would be pure comedy

He hides it in the meta tags for SEO reasons (helps to spell the infringing property correctly though)
