Quoted from o-din:

I turned 18 in 1980 so I lived it. I was a teen in the 70s and I lived that too. As cool as a UFO pinball machine would be, I wouldn't buy it because it would probably ruin the memory of how much I loved that band just like owning Metallica did. Retro for me is something that was before my time. I don't need to relive what I already did. It is packed away in the memory banks.

Why would a pinball ruin how much you loved a band? If you love(d) Metallica - the pinball is fantastic...why would that tarnish anything? I loved Metallica when I was in Jr. High & honestly kinda of lost track of them...the pinball made me rediscover and appreciate them again.

Shh...O-din thinks Capersville is a band.

Quoted from vid1900:

Think what you want, but Gary said "No more Trons" 3 times. And then ran them 3 more times.

Yeah but this time he means it

I was one of the first and biggest Metallica fans. But that was in the early and mid 80s. For me it is nice the hear them once in a while, but I roll with the times so I have fanned many new bands since then. I got excited when it was announced but after a couple months I got sick of it. Didn't want to hear it again. It became a reminder that I have moved on but it doesn't look like pinball has. That is why my stance is what it is

It's such an odd and ironic stance, since pinball itself is old and the specific era you like is old...that's old within old!!!! Might as well move on in gaming, too. Time to get a Playstation 4 and play competitive games online! Take this to its logical conclusion and leave pinball behind! Roll with the times!

I used to love Metallica, too.

But everything after Master of Puppets sucks cocks.

I still get every new album, hoping for a return to form....

Even my old games have older themes. But they are themes before my time like pirates and the old west and things like that. No specific license though. Just somebody's vision of how things might have been. I like new music and unlicensed pinball themes. Probably the opposite of most on here. But it is what I like and am entitled to my opinion.

That's fine, but can you see why new-music themed & unlicensed pins wouldn't sell well? Not icons, no emotional attachment from prospective buyers. From a marketing standpoint, licensing makes sense - and clearly many enjoy the licenses as the games are selling. Now that Stern's done Whoa Nellie, I could see them dabbling in the occasional original theme as long as they're having great sales w/ other games to take the risk.

#209 8 years ago

You need a mix of older themes that appeal to the older pin guys but you definitely need to have newer more relevant titles to the younger guys that want to get into pinball. I too was a teen in the late 70's and 80's and I loved those times but I crave new things as well and want to have some titles in the lineup that are fresh and current or you become as cool as the guy who collects 8 Track tapes.

Hence Game of Thrones, Walking Dead...pretty much every Stern theme aside from rock bands is current.

I can see that. It's the emotional attachment to the 80s I don't understand. I was glad to see that decade go....

Quoted from FrostyMug:

I guess sharing a tidbit, something relevant to the thread is always open for sarcastic target practice. Ok, no problem here. In general I think it makes people a little weary of sharing tidbits though. Ok. I likely still will because I am thick skinned. I am also a people person and like talking. I hope it does not affect the motivation for others to post though.
Just sayin.

My apologies. No ill intent intended, just some light hearted fun.

80's pop culture was the best! The shows, movies, music...it was a creative peak that hasn't quite been matched since - and that's probably why so many have happy nostalgia for it. I guess going into the 80's as an adult, it had a different effect on you. To be a kid in the 80's was magical.

#214 8 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

To be a kid in the 80's was magical.

And I'm sure a large percent of pinballers were kids in that decade too. There was a second baby boom going on. I had a lot of fun in the 80s no doubt. But you can see how those that are older and those that are younger may not see it the way you do as far as nostalgia is concerned. Being a kid in the 60s and a teen in the 70s was as magical as it can be.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Gary Stern reviewing the new AC/DC licensing agreement at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

You know, a Ferris Beuller's Day Off pin would actually work pretty well. Idle (non-mode) music:

Multiball music:

Escape Rooney, "borrow" the Ferrari, hack school computer, beat sister/dad home from work... the game practically designs itself!

ACDC WORLD TOUR EDITION. Only 10,000. Complete with particle board PF and instead of individual lights under each insert there will now be a big floured cent lamp in the cab that lights them all at once, for cost cutting purposes of course.

#221 8 years ago

If Stern was going to polish the code ... Would like to see two mini wizard modes added - one for completing six song on left side of juke, one for songs on the right side. I usually try to clear one side during a game.

#222 8 years ago
Quoted from FrostyMug:

My pinball distributor (been buds for years) told me just before the acdc license expired, distribs were all trying to stuff their channel. Buy more so they had a decent inventory. Stern seen the spike in orders and scrambled to extend the license or obtain an option to renew at a "fixed" price at some future time within 2 years. The acdc camp was way up on contract prices. Perhaps due to the popularity of the pin. Anyway, prices were high. Talks broke down. Parties walked and the license lapsed into expiration.
So. Depending on how well things/people "cooled" down since then. Depending on how eager and willing to try and meet "in the middle" will decide whether any acdc pins are ever made by Stern again. My opinion is no. Stern will not roll over for any one license holder. It would set a precedent. News travels fast in the entertainment industry. Others would start "gouging" during contract talks. My opinion is Stern tells acdc to go pound sand.

If the band wants an absurd amount of money for a license then Stern should just re-theme AC/DC into a new game like they did with Spider-man VE . You already have a killer game and rules so if they pick the right band it could sell.

One of the best parts of AC/DC is how well the theme is integrated in the design with the bell, cannon, "hell", train, thunderstruck targets, TNT.

You could easily retheme generic garbage like Rolling Stones that has a bunch of music notes, records, drumsticks, and generic toys and rules, but I think any retheme of AC/DC would just scream "This is supposed to be AC/DC". It's one of the things that makes it such a great game.

Quoted from GAP:

They are not a band anymore!

Wrong. They are still a band.

Neil, however, clarified that MÖTLEY CRÜE isn't calling it quits completely and will continue to exist as a band and as a business. The group might even record new music for possible inclusion in commercials or movies.

"We've never said we were breaking up; we just said we're not touring anymore," he said. "We're gonna be definitely making more music together for different projects and stuff. But right now we're really just focused on doing these shows this year and finishing with a bang."

While announcing the first details of "The Final Tour" at a Los Angeles press conference in January 2014, the four members of MÖTLEY CRÜE revealed that they took the unusual step of having their lawyer draw up a formal "cessation of touring" agreement that goes into effect at the end of 2015 and prohibits the members of the group from going on the road again under the MÖTLEY CRÜE banner.

Quoted from Aurich:

Fair enough. I don't dislike the idea of band pins, but the reality is anything I'd like to see people wouldn't be into, I listen to mostly rap and death metal.
But aren't there modern rock bands that people like? Speaking of death metal (sort of) what about The Eagles of Death Metal (not a death metal band if you don't know them)? I like this song:
» YouTube video
They got all that press for being in Paris during the terrorist attacks, everyone has heard of them now. I dunno, what do people listen to that's not old? Forget pop music, there's still a world of other bands and sounds out there. You only need to sell a few thousand to be successful.

I really like TEODM. Defiantly not a high profile band and after the Paris attacks that was even more obvious to me since no one I knew had even hard of them when they were mentioned in the news. Of course most of my friends thought they were a death metal band.

That being said, I would guess that many people had heard their music at one point or another and not even been aware of it. A few years ago I swear I saw a half a dozen movies that used their music in the soundtrack. I don't know if the band was running a sale on licensing their music for movies or what.

I see Odins point, but damn. Would love a UFO pin. Lots of material there!

So does anyone know when this might happen? 3 months, 6 months, a year from now? I need to figure out what I'm going to do with my collection if this does happen. I need to make room.

#232 8 years ago

Tomorrow or the next day.

#233 8 years ago

Not before 2018. Probably not after either.

Well, the big tour is over by April so certainly before that!!!

I'd begin clearing out space for your new AC/DC ASAP.

I Think it's Bullshit ! Someone hoping to see prices drop .I will believe it when I play it.

But if it's true ? Please redo playfield artwork

2 Luci's up for sale in the last 24 hours. Inside info or coincidence?

Believe the second went up for sale because the first had a high asking price....don't know what price was agreed upon.

My Luci is going nowhere

A few have appeared in Germany too over the last couple of weeks. Certainly more have appeared on the market in last 2-3 weeks than the prior 3-4 months.

I do find it strange that I searched for a pro for a long time, but had many opportunities to get the Premium. Did the premium/LEs out sell the Pros?

#240 8 years ago

Just looking at the Pinside numbers for the Pro (162) and Premium (802), way more Premiums purchased by collectors. Metallica, the numbers are pretty close between versions.

#241 8 years ago
Quoted from Darscot:

I wasn't around back then, but looking back it seems to have been almost unanimous as soon as the game was released that Pro was either incomplete, bad or very undesirable compared to the Premium & LE. I strongly suspect the Pro was a poor selling game. Premiums & LEs have continued to climb in price, whilst Pro prices are doing nothing.

It would seem that Pinside data also bears this out. Way more Premiums & LEs apparently, particularly in private ownership.

If they do another run I'd guess it's almost certainly Premium ... maybe with new Dirty Donny art, and maybe a TWD cannon mech instead of the monstrosity that AC/DC has. Biggest thing one would hope for though is Lyman's finished code.

You can see from the above screenshot, thanks for putting up rubberducks, that the Pro widely used on location and the majority of the Premiums are in home collections. Sterns model.

Both are great games...the Pro is wicked fast!

#243 8 years ago

Way, way more Premiums & LEs marked generally in NA though. I'd guess at least twice the number.

Tour starts on Friday in Vegas!!!!

Anybody gonna go to the show and buy one of these re-run 2016 Tour Edition AC/DC games?

I'm planning on picking up a couple at Madison Square Garden in April. I know it'll cost less if I buy through a distributor but it's hard to pass it up when you are already at the show. Like paying 45 clams for a t-shirt.

#245 8 years ago

Yeah it was just price point for me and wanted an AC/DC. Love my Pro and it was stoked to get it for the price I did, with the dollar Premiums are close to double.

Played the pro for the first time in SF @ Free Gold Watch.. FAST and BRUTAL. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

My buddy has a Pro that he moded to have a swinging bell before the LED Pro came out. It is a screamer. I was looking into getting a Pro until I saw the Luci Edition. Once wife approved, it was on!

Avengers came out long after the movie.

Ironman had a high demand like AC/DC has now and several movies had been done after, as well as license expired, and there were documented interviews with Gary Stern that IM would not be made again.

So, what exactly is your point?

The premise of this thread is that "Stern is producing AC/DC again with New AC/DC tour."

Well, the tour is on. Let's see it. Or are they waiting till the end of the tour? They only got 2 months to work with here.
