Aurich, I think some insight into the process of graphic design for a pin would really answer a lot of questions here. I don't think people really understand just how exacting branding can be with its use. I used to work in advertising and formerly did graphic design full time, so I know how much of a PITA the constraints can be with a brand. Constraints can definitely lead to more creative and positive outcomes, so it isn't always a design killer. I force myself to work within constraints for my own creative outlets for focus reasons.
Quoted from XXVII:I think the coloring skill of the LE backglass art is incredible, but the composition is boring. Check out Daenerys, directly in the center of the frame, flanked by Khal Drogo and Missandei. By Rule of Thirds, they are taking up just the center third square vertically and horizontally of the frame. Now look at the Unsullied, all in a horizontal line, all inside the bottom third row. Visually, this design has no flow. It's not leading your eyes in any direction, except the dragon fire directing you off the translite. There's no interest in this.
This just further reinforces the idea that composition is often more important than drawing ability. I've spent countless hours on stuff that I knew sucked, hoping somehow it would get better, when the issue was just poor composition.
