Quoted from starfighter:

Might have better luck talking to John Greatwitch about a possible run

Who will be our spokesman to reach out to them?

#502 6 years ago
Quoted from cottonm4:

OK. I count 5 with questionable common sense that would be in for a QS play field. Any more? Let get the train loaded and hit CPR with a power email

I'm in for a playfield, and I resemble your comment about people with questionable common sense.

#503 6 years ago
Quoted from TigerLaw:

I can reach out to John, but I don't know anyone at CPR.

Edit: I sent John a PM, but no luck...he is out on this one.

#504 6 years ago

I was just asked about this. For those that don't know, around 2008 Mike Halse was my main art guy. He has gone silent the last 6 years. I don't have people to do art, & my main focus is to end Seawitch playfields. Hard to believe that over run of Star Gazer playfields will finally be done the end of this year. As the year winds down I want to get going on Seawitch. Anyone with art for classic Stern's let me know. Glass is done on demand.

I also get my lenses from Marco Specialties. You have to use what is supplied from Foremost Plastics. You will be lucky to find perfect ones, usually minor fissures, to long snake like fissures on the bottom. Anyone buying them usually 50 cents or more each. So unless they are totally mangled they get used. I still get the rare person complaining the colors aren't correct for a shade on the playfields. I have to use what my printer does from the file. This has burned me in the past on a few one off glass projects, where I had to absorb the cost of production & shipping.

Sounds like pinball rescue is going to take on the plastic set project. No idea on timing, but at least there is hope.

Great. I'll buy the set I said I would buy and make a shadow box for the pieces and hope someday find a QS to put them in

#507 6 years ago

So, we've moved up to 65 on the Pinside top 100. I think we are a better game than 65, we need more ratings!

I'd be in for a playfield, for sure!

I had a reply from Lee at pinball rescue .
He said he would be asking collectors he knows for a set of plastics to work from , as he doesn't own a QS.
This is for correct sizing and colours that would be needed, sounds promising though , I think there's been lots of interest in these plastics ...

Quoted from Ralph67:

Great! Now can you talk to him about Catacomb too? I have about 10 names so far.

#511 6 years ago

Noticed that the below plastic was made two different ways. Mine has a clear area for the kick out ball area (now tinted yellow). On the IPDB it has a picture of it filled in green.

Neat.. looks like an early sample before the manufactures changed it.

We are now up to 56 and our backglass is on display in the top 100. Well deserved I say!

I would like this statement better if I already owned one

Ok, so I made some gradual progress in my Quicksilver adventure. I'm still in the middle of clearcoating / sanding the top of playfield - so not much to see there (yet). I am almost ready for painting / touchups but need to wait for the clear to "dieback." In the meantime I wanted to show what one coat of paint can do for the underside of a Quicksilver playfield. Before painting I locked down all the "exploded wood" around the inserts with some 30 min. Epoxy. I also had to line the bottom of the lift bar "hole" with epoxy. It was just a matter of time before that sharp-tipped metal bar punched a hole into the shooter lane! Stripped screw holes (flipper mechanisms) were filled with epoxy - covered bamboo barbeque skewers.

So I'm kinda curious on where all the Quicksilvers went. How many are there in Canada? USA? Europe? My pinside map doesn't show it.

#518 6 years ago

The serial # of my cabinet is 10618. The front of this machine says 41 /50 (115V). The playfield (before I just painted over it) said 47. I would assume there were more than 50 Quicksilvers in Canada but this was definitely part of a 50 unit Canadian run. Edit: excuse the dirt, haven't cleaned out the cabinet yet...

#519 6 years ago

I wouldn't believe that number system for Canada. I have seen about 5 here, & none of them had a number on lock down bar assembly.

#520 6 years ago

Agreed, I definitely wouldn't call a jiffy marker scribble an official numbering system. Most likely just someone on the factory floor ensuring that this particular batch of 50 units have the transformers wired for 115 Volts instead of 120 Volts.

Edit: I am only one good cleaning away from completely obliterating that number (I doubt it would stand up to a good scrubbing) so maybe soon you can add me to the list of folks with no numbers on the lockdown bar assembly.

Fun story...... quicksilver can make you the best uncle of all time!!! Had a family reunion at the lake this summer. Had to do it... and the kids went nuts for it. I actually got close to my 2 year old Neice who wanted nothing to do with me until I gave her Pinball.... man the power of the silver ball!!!! I LOVE IT!!

Haha amazing pics

#523 6 years ago

Wow, it's official. That machine has travelled more than I did this year! I had a chance to see it in Edmonton at Yegpin earlier this year, which was the first time I had ever played a Quicksilver. Thanks for sharing this machine with so many folks, it's great to see these classics out...in the wild

This goes into my "Now, I have seen everything" file folder. Seeing the colors of back glass lit up among the trees is beautiful.

ya was really excited to share it at YEGPIN, and sooo disappointing it crashed so soon in. It will be coming back thou... This game is just too fun not to share with everyone.

I've had two QS but both sourced outside of Canada. One from upstate NY and the other from Europe.
I also have at least 3 local friends with examples of this title (1 sourced from US also).

#527 6 years ago

there is two in saskatoon, saskatchewan. I have obviously have one of them. and sold the other one to a local pinhead,

Mine come from saskatchewan also

Hey I was looking at the Quicksilver Apron color thread and noticed that your Quicksilver has the same jiffy marker writing in the lockdown bar area as mine!

Quoted from brenna98:Pinball Rescue said they would do a run of quicksilver plastics if we can collect at least 10 people. Please post if you're interested and i'll supply the list to them for consideration.

I will be in. +2

Great job on the back of the playfield, that looks amazing. Hoping to have my Quicksilver look that good one day.

#533 6 years ago

Thanks, I was amazed how little paint there was under that playfield. I was also amazed to see so much damage from whatever they used to drill the holes. Some of the holes look like they were made with a rifle!

One operator's trick was to glue a US quarter for that spot where the playfield support hole is.

#535 6 years ago

Here I am posting in a Quicksilver club and have not put up a picture of mine, she needs some work but slowly cleaning her up. these are when I first picked it up. it was really dirty.

That apron looks like a Catacomb apron with that shade of green.

EDIT: It must be the lighting. The first picture shows the green looking more "correct".

That is a nice looking play field !!

Quicksilver back in quarantine...

Edit: Learned a valuable lesson from my last attempt at a spray booth: Don't put the doorway on the opposite side of the booth as the exhaust fan! The door should be near the exhaust fan so dirt and dust will "short circuit" towards the fan without circulating near the playfield. Still need the old "door frame" to reinforce the furnace filter

That's hysterical! Looks super cool.

#544 6 years ago

I used to believe that the darker apron was used on export games. Most of the examples I've seen in Canada and from European/Australian sources had these. Domestic machines like the one I picked up in NY state seem to predominantly have the lighter green apron. I'm sure this rule doesn't apply 100% of the time and aprons are easily swapped, but it seems very plausible.

#545 6 years ago

My apron, here in France is a red one ^^

Red apron here as well...

Green!

Mind the 'before' pic of the apron.

This machine is a re import of an export, this has been imported from Germany to Australia at some stage in its life, I didn't realize until I tried to take the cloth tape off thee coin slot plates that it has 1 Deutschmark coin slot inserts in it. But who cares Its a Quicksilver. It is actually has a clean apron on it.

That is a nice looking play field !!

Its not too bad most of the wear is in the centre bonus area (typical) and a lot of cupping on the inserts but generally not to bad for a Quicksilver.

Thanks all, It has been great reading with what everyone is doing with restores and clean ups.

You need a few more stickers on there, I can still see some of the green stripes.
