For now prices have topped out a bit. 6 months ago every sale created a new higher price and the titles moved. Lately not so much. May move again but clearly we have hit a price barrier.

Quoted from pinmike:

Old schoolers will always love the older games than the newer ones and yes memeries also play a big role.

And that is why the prices wont hold. There is a shift to newer pins. So collectors (old schoolers) will hold a niche for a while but like the old cars it will start to drop off.

Its already starting to split on favorite games.(just examples) AFM.MM.MB or Tron,AC/DC,SM as that continues prices will adjust.

"This TOTAN has been SOLD, buyer got a very good price for this machine!"

Sounds like this went down from the original price too.

Still high prices and will certainly stay as such but the trend of continuous climbing has tapered off.

I grew up in Balmer, hon ; )

Quoted from Toasterdog:

I absolutely think when LCD's become standard for Stern and JJP starts cranking out machines, prices will fall and just as quick as the prices have gone up IMO.

Can you imagine a line up with 5 or 6 LCD pins stacked up and screens blazing. At the same time the LED light shows are rocking the room.
You know it will look awesome.
I can't wait and its why I won't spend a dime on an old box. Let the collectors enjoy their memories. I like cool and new.

Me too, I just like to have the old boxes too

Double down!!

Nope but cool lights and sounds and Lcds with other goodies will be.

Quoted from jackofdiamonds:

Think about this:put Tron next to TZ,see any technological differences?Actually the older game has more going on then the newer game.So even though there is almost 2 decades between models, the older game is the more advanced pin.Has pinball design hit a wall?Maybe.JJP is going to push with the LCD but the main playfield components are the same as the "old" TZ.For me it's not old vs. new,but what are the best pinball machines made, taking the entire history of it all into consideration.Scott

Thats why there will still be strong market. I see that as quite the opposite. The clean lines and newer playfields look much better to me. But I what what you are saying. So there will be guys like me that have no interest in old boxes and collectors like you that will chersish them and hopefully both will flourish.

I saw two MM sell for under 10k recently. Watched several AFMs sit and a couple other guys struggle with A list titles priced in CQ range. Thats all been in the last two months.

Quoted from MrWizzo:

The key to these deals-homemade Polish food, of course!

Ok, that sounds yummy and is clearly a good deal.

I am not googling all day but will just say from sales I watched its tapered. Not plummeted or dipped but 6 months ago and more it was a new price every time and sold. Now they sit and offers are out there. Thats been for about 4-6 months. Just watching it certainly looks like a trend but again. I have not done a spreadsheet.

Quoted from bigdaddy07:

For the record, I'm wishing with you guys. Here is wishing for a 3k TOTAN and a 5K MM in 2013.

Ok, thats never going to happen. Leveling off is not collapsing and there is no indication of collapsing for quite a while. Until folks start dying...
