Bend it like Beckham... (The arm of the switch that contacts the spinner.)

Get this little baby if you don't have one already, it makes life MUCH easier.

Lightly lubing the spinner arms will also yield surprising results.

Never lube these type of parts. Ever

Huh?
Why is that? It's metal on metal.
Friction is the enemy when it comes to spinners.
I'm not telling him to use 3-In-One oil all over the place... Just some lightweight bicycle chain lube that doesn't attract dirt- such as my personal favorite, Dumonde Tech Lite.
Dumonde.jpgDumonde.jpg
I've used this product for years on my bicycle chains and there is nothing better for the specific application of soft metal on metal. Just lube these ---> p1000358.jpgp1000358.jpg two holes (with a drop of DTL onto a Q-Tip) where the spinner rests and marvel at how much more the spinner rotates. There is no gumming up the part, period. (Unless you put the lube on a filthy surface to begin with- as seen in this picture... )

You can get it at most bike shops Judremy or on Amazon if you don't feel like driving.
Just clean the spinner really well first, before applying.

Quoted from markmon:

A pinball machine isn't a bicycle chain.

Well, I'll I agree with you there...
The Cosmoline they use on bicycle chains is mainly a preventative for rust when stored for long periods of time, once you get it rolling out in the open environment, it becomes a dirt magnet.
Dumonde Tech is resistant to the harsh environment outdoors because it's made to do so.
Basically the lube (when compressed against metal) plates itself to the surface so it resists dirt and grime and is dry to the touch.
In a pinball machine, the wear and dirt that accumulates on a spinner is mild when compared to a chain.
I was just trying to be helpful in showing people a better mousetrap.
The stock spinner (dry) on my LOTR maybe had four to eight rotations before it stopped completely. After using the Dumonde Tech, the spinner had doubled it's output- because of less friction... And it is still just as clean and shiny six months later.
I guess the real takeaway from both of our discussions is to clean and maintain your pin on a regular basis.
Neglecting to do any maintenance in the first place is the REAL villain of pinball...
For your health!
