FF Premium in house! Shout out to Dave & The Pinball Dudes!

Started changing rubbers… most are easy enough. Some you have to really… really want to get to. I stopped half way cause I’m just not sure I want to that bad yet.

At least my understanding is that with titans, I won’t have to do it again for a long while versus far more often with the standards.

Also did the plastics. The green kit looks great. I’m an idiot though and wasn’t paying attention when undoing the left ramp top that it was only connected to the lower left ramp. So I unscrewed it first and dropped the nuts into the ether in that back corner. On the premium… they just vanish. Ha. I did manage to get one out and I got one to move which I heard, but then never heard it move again and couldn’t find it.

Quoted from Artax:

Some may say I'm a bad parent, but I have never censored art or music from my child. That means sometimes I have to have a conversation about appropriately using certain words and where and when it's appropriate, but so be it.

Yeah I do the same I don't walk around the house swearing but if they hear it in movies or something like that we talk about it but my kids are all older now youngest is 18 so they've heard it all

OMG that's awful. 2 out of the last 4 sterns - they replaced my playfield. You have to keep on at them for a long time and then it runs 6 months, but that's terrible...

Seems when there are playfield or decal issues it takes a very long time, many many emails to hopefully get resolved. My Rush LE came with a badly installed decal. It took nearly 6 months just to get the decal. I still haven’t had it replaced because stern wanted me to take the game back to my distributor and leave it with him to replace. After getting it perfectly level also not wanting to take a chance on it getting damaged going to and from the shop. I just decided to keep the decal and give it to the buyer if I ever sell it.

Same here. Have you seen TV lately? Also nothing compared to what they hear at school. Every kid over 5 know the “F word” they may not yes know what that word is though.

When there's a cable/streaming show that's below a 70 for profanity, it's surprising (http://www.swearmeter.com). There's a LOT kids are exposed to these days in even relatively innocuous shows, and some of the shows clearly have profanity minimums per episode where they jam in an F-bomb awkwardly just so they hit their "edgy" quotient. Apple TV is one of the worst for this.

Hopefully someone can help me. I got everything all together today, but am getting some error messages / seeing some weird things I’m not sure are normal.

1) the start button doesn’t actually start the game. I have to use the button on the bar. Maybe this is a setting, I don’t know.

2) I installed a tournament button. It doesn’t seem to do anything. Is there a setting to say it is there or turn it on?

3. The flipper on the upper right sometimes doesn’t flip, but most of the time flips with the bottom right. Is this intentional? Like in certain circumstances is it not supposed to? Or is there something I should check?

4. Upper playfield flipper doesn’t work at all, so that I definitely need to check.

5. I’m getting three tech alerts seen in the image below (but sometimes only the shooter lane one). But I don’t understand at all what I am supposed to do or what is happening when I click for switch test. Is there an explanation or video somewhere I am missing?

Thanks everyone for your patience and any help.

Supposedly they take forever and I’m assured that it will come. Thank goodness I’m a patient person. Your right, the game plays just fine so keep on enjoying the Foo and hopefully you get confirmation that you’ll receive a new playfield.

3. The flipper on the upper right sometimes doesn’t flip, but most of the time flips with the bottom right. Is this intentional? Like in certain circumstances is it not supposed to? Or is there something I should check?
4. Upper playfield flipper doesn’t work at all, so that I definitely need to check.

3 and 4 are likely the same problem.

Glass off. Balls out. Lift playfield. There's a "stack" of blades by each flipper button. Contact with the first blade activates one flipper, contact with the first and second blade activates both flippers. Your back blade is too far away, bend it closer until you see it making good contact when you depress the flipper button fully. If you want a more responsive button, bend both blades closer so contact is made sooner after pressing a button.

Quoted from Sonics99:

5. I’m getting three tech alerts seen in the image below (but sometimes only the shooter lane one). But I don’t understand at all what I am supposed to do or what is happening when I click for switch test. Is there an explanation or video somewhere I am missing?

See #4 for the flipper.

For the shooter lane, but the game into switch test mode (under diagnostics on the menu) then roll a ball into the shooter lane and see if the screen registers that the lane switch activated. If not, look under the playfield to make sure the switch wires are connected fully. If they are, try depressing the switch FROM BELOW THE PLAYFIELD - the auto launch will kick and take out your fingers if the switch registers. If the switch works manually, you just need to bend the switch wire up a little so it registers when the ball rolls onto it in the shooter lane.

Quoted from Sonics99:

1) the start button doesn’t actually start the game. I have to use the button on the bar. Maybe this is a setting, I don’t know.

Now that you know switch test mode, try testing the start button in switch test mode. Did you mod the start button with a custom button or anything? It just may not be making contact with the switch properly.

Quoted from Sonics99:

3. The flipper on the upper right sometimes doesn’t flip, but most of the time flips with the bottom right. Is this intentional? Like in certain circumstances is it not supposed to? Or is there something I should check?

You can make sure it works in switch test mode, but I think I remember a tournament enable setting on the menu, so you may have to turn that on. Dunno. Never did one.

Quoted from JH315:

I that’s not it. It’s something to do with the apron maybe. I’ve done it on location without issue. It can’t clear the raised flipper.

Just fixed mine today. Loosen the two nuts under the playfield then pull the left side off the apron as far forward as you can and retighten. Works great after that.

#2366 11 months ago

2 balls in the shooter lane? Mine still does that occasionally after upgrading to v.94 and I have my shooter eject set to minimum.

I also leveled my machine today - dead level left to right and 6.0 front to back (shooter lane bubble towards the front of the middle bars) and Ka Foom still only goes around the ramp only 10% of the time. Wish I could raise the coil power or something.

I'm a huge Foo fan but never loved Holding Poison as a song. I wouldn't choose to listen to it intentionally. However, it's probably the song I pick the most when playing this pin. Maybe because I don't hear it that often but it seems to fit the game style for me.

Spent a day and a half with the stock LE speakers. Notably better than the stuff in my Premiums of the past, especially with a bit of tweaking and cranked up a bit. But I installed the Pinwoofer kit tonight and it's a night and day difference - really really really good.

Not surprising, I have PW in my Godzilla and Bond. Both were a huge improvement and on a music pin like this, the kit is really outstanding. 10/10, can recommend to anyone on the fence!

I have now played this game for a few hours and... this is the greatest game ever made!

I would willingly miss the birth of my first unborn child to play this game. That's how good it is. The shots are amazing, the sound and music is awesome, the lights are astounding, I love the rules, I love how there's always something to do..... THE SHOTS ARE AMAZING! There isn't a bad shot in the game. There's nothing I can't hit nor don't want to hit.

It's my favorite game of all time. I hope they can get Dave Grohl to do the callouts. That would put it in another level.

There are pre-drilled and T-nutted holes on Pro and Prem machines from the factory so where it goes depends on where Stern put that. My LE came with it installed on the right of the coin box from the factory.

That’s great. Thanks. I am going to order. Also ordering a set of your slick lemonade plush washers. Wondering about the LE badge plate. Do you have any pics of neon green or yellow on the FFLE. How well does the green match or is there another color that works better?

It's a slightly different shade of neon, but it looks really nice. I have one on my LE right now. I'll go take a pic.

EDIT: Here it is. This is the Metal LE frame version, but the plastic Pro/Prem badge also looks very nice. You can see that the neon frame matches the T-molding pretty well, bit is a different shade than the neon in the speaker rings. Overall very nice look.

Quoted from PinMonk:

I miss my share of shots, too! But if you're missing everything you want, all the time, just dial it back and make a mini-clinic for yourself, trying to hit, for example, the targets only and then the paddle behind to upgrade the van. Practice plunging to hit a drop target to get a bonus, practice sweeping the 3 targets with one shot from the side, practice backhanding the 3 drop targets. Any way you can get at them, do that, over and over and over. You WILL program that into your muscle memory, you just need to do it a lot. Don't pay any attention to the game or score, just keep trying to make that shot. Try it on the fly and also from a stop where you controlled the ball to bring it to rest.
Then, once you get that shot more consistently, move to something else - ramps, spinners, captive ball, etc. Learning the shots through specific repetition of just the shot you want to learn without the distraction of the game (set the game to 10 ball so you're not interrupted by "game over") is a wax on/off method that works. When you put it together in a game, you'll be surprised how many shots you're choosing and making.

I appreciate the advice. I haven't gone to those lengths before to try to improve my playing, but it's time. It's hard to resist trying to progress through the game though!

Something else that I think has brought my playing to new lows - I got my first pair of progressive bifocals a few months ago. I feel like I can't see the ball on the flipper for crap. Tilting my head down a lot more than usual seems to help, but it's not comfortable.

Hi Wade,

Do yourself a favour and drop the bifocals when playing pinball.

Best to wing it with nothing or get glasses set to range of field for your vision while playing.

eg. I am now wearing glasses set for 30-50cm range. Used for PC and Pinball.

I got it from pinballlife.com. It does not require any other parts and mounts quickly. Here are some install pics.

Great thing about Foo is the playfield and all rails and parts are the same so mounting anything or making changes is easy.

OOS. Marco has it listed for $70 cheaper. We'll see.

Would love to get the alien too! That's not listed anywhere, though...

For all you foo owners, does your center spinner spin for days like I see on many streams. Mine spins well, but not to the level I have seen. The code actually had to be modified so a spinning spinner didn't roll over to the next player and give them points.

I looked at mine and didn't see any binding that would cause it be spin less. Besides applying some lube, anything else to look at? Not really a problem, but definitely not spinning like the one of the FlipNOut stream with Ray.

Anyone installed one of the pinball life knocker kits on a FF? I have mine connected but can't figure out which menu option is used to enable it, and there is nothing in coil test to test it either, so I'm not sure if it works or not.

Not on FF but did on JP and will be the same thing somewhere in the standard adjustment settings. You will need to set knocker volume to 0 to turn off the screech sound and then enable external knocker (may not be the exact label, but will be obvious).

Like PantherCityPins suggested, one drop of Superlube on each side will have them spinning like mad. A case where less is more, don't want oil dripping anywhere or getting on the opto.

Mine actually both spun really well straight out of the box. If yours don't spin really freely by hand, check the bracket for any binding or other concerns. I had to tweak the arms on one of my Godzilla spinners to really free it up, so check carefully for binding or drag.

OOS. Marco has it listed for $70 cheaper. We'll see.
Would love to get the alien too! That's not listed anywhere, though...

I have not seen the Van on Marco yet and was just lucky with PinballLife when I caught the posting for a Van. For a few hours PinballLife had the Overlord but I missed it. Seems I bought the last van. Anyone else see these elsewhere?

Mine does not. It might be crimped to close to the post. And I mail it but there appears to be a lot of resistance. Upper spins great.

This is going to go down as the most ripped off premium/le ever … first it’s the deadpost mod ripoff… now pinball life is selling factory sculpts to pro owners. Big ole middle finger to the premium and LE buyers. Thanks for protecting your buyers stern. Glad I got the benefit of getting to buy expression lights lol.
