    Quoted from BRONX:

I'm curious how the heck these guys survive on, no PayPal, no credit cards, no this and no that? And even worse for vendors outside USA. ?
My question to you pinsiders, with all of these payment restrictions, whats the most cash You put inside inside envelope via USPS and prayed Steve Young got It????
    $20???
    $30???
    $40??
    $100?
    LoL
Hopefully this "Jimmy" guy. I guess it's Steve's email responder convinces Steve to take credit cards or PayPal soon.....

I was taught to never send cash.

    Quoted from BRONX:

I'm not to internet savvy. I guess me and Steve are in the same boat

You assume Steve is not internet savvy. Since he does have a website up so we can shop his shelves, I'm guessing that he is very internet savvy, which is probably why he is not changing his business model.

    Quoted from BRONX:

Also if @gamesum actually paid $197 for $7000 gross it works to under 3% fees. If I go with a money order or this $13 Canadian bank check fee. My $60 order will now be inflated to $70-$73 so another 25percent fee charge on my dime. I would decline my order. Period. How many foreign orders have simply just declined before me?

Dont forget the postage fees. From the US to Canada. How many points is the postage going to cost you?

The man has had this business for something like 50 years. I am guessing he knows what works.

Sounds like you would have less heartburn if you just went ahead and sold the pin.

    Quoted from bluespin:

Gloria was Steve’s girlfriend of many years. She helped him open and run the business until she passed last year.

Then she is the one who took my first PBR order. In 2012, before I bought my first pin, I built a visual pinball machine. Somehow, I wound up at PBR website in need of parts and was advised about the PBR way of doing business by establishing a bit of credit. I expressed my surprise at this old school way of doing business.

She/Gloria said Steve has XXXXX of customers all over the globe. I won't give the figure I was told, but it was a number followed by five zeros. I'll put it this way: It will take a whole lot of people quitting Steve before he is going to change his business model.

    Quoted from Grandnational007:

On second thought, some of the best customers you can get are the ones you don't take...

    Well said.

    Quoted from Miguel351:

True. All transactions sent as "Friends and Family" on PayPal and Venmo are not subject to the 1099K reporting. For now. Trust me, once the IRS gets word of PayPal and Venmo's 10000% increase in F&F transactions and corresponding drop in Goods and Services transactions, those will get taxed, too.

Just like when Ebay had to starting including shipping fees as part of the auction price. " $10.00 for the car and $5,000.00 shipping fees."

I’ve met steve several times he used to go to Allentown every year.
Those days are long past. It wasn’t worth the effort for him to haul all of stuff there.
There’s some footage here, on my old public access cable show, of Steve, about 14 minutes in.
You’ll see how steve behaves like such an ogre!!! He’s truly a monster:

    Thanks Levi,

It is nice to see what the man looks like.

    Thermionic
    Actually all pinsiders!!!
Curious in the year 2022ad, if you would operate on the Steve Young business model? I will ship you now! & You pay me later???

The better question would be for you to ask Steve that if he was starting out today would he still use his current business model?

    Quoted from Beatnik-Filmstar:

Getting through on attempt one is exceedingly rare for me. Most times I order it's a case of every hour or so remembering "Oh yeah - PBR order" and trying again. Eventually the phone rings instead of getting a busy signal. (Which is quaint to hear in 2022 in and of itself.)
I actually seem to have the best luck trying towards the end of business hours. I've gotten through before late enough in the day that a call has taken us past his closing time. Thanked Steve for answering so late and gotten the "Well if I didn't want to talk I wouldn't have answered" line.

And it is actually nice to just hear the unanswered phone ring as opposed to listening to some BS recording saying, " We are experiencing heavy call volume. Your call is very important to us. We'll be with you shortly". And then you are tortured with having to listen to some crap music while you wait. And wait. And wait.

    Quoted from fiberdude120:

I drive by the place all the time and have stopped a couple of times. Not once have they been open.

I'd be willing to bet that PBR does not get a lot of walk in business.

    Quoted from PismoArcade:

If you call Steve prepared and know exactly what you want, he'll go out of his way to be friendly and helpful

I tell him I have his part numbers for some of what I want. And that there are others items that I don't have a part number for. Steve is cool with that and all I have to do is tell him what I am looking for and knows what it is and says ," that is such and such. How many do you need?"

If I have any tech questions, I always wait until he has my order so he does not think I'm trying to get him for free info.
