    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

That's a great idea. I'm sure Tim and his staff trying to enforce 1 hour wristbands wouldn't result in anything bad.
I get the complaints. People are gonna do that, they are entitled to it. But you are never gonna get these guys to make wholesale changes. They have their reasons and I get it.
People bitch endlessly right now, and they are paying coin drop. It's free to enter, you can try to find a game that works and put $2 into it and leave. Can you imagine the complaining if you had to pay money to set foot in the door?

They typically do 6hr, half day, all day wristbands. They typically aren't enforcing this strict cause most people will not stay there for that long of time so it's not really a problem they have at Silverball locations. People all the time buy all day wristbands for example and then after a couple hours just leave anyways, so it's just extra money for the venue. It's also not an exact science of tracking exact time in arcade, they fudge it by granting far more time to folks using a colored wrist band and then they will at a certain point wander the venue and just tell anyone still around that they are past their time, but this is always going to typically be far more time than they bought cause they give you a big window and often don't both checking even.

They complain about getting in the front door, then oh well, they don't get in, simple as that. Welcome to Vegas, pay up or gtfo. Most places that aren't a casino require an entry fee to get in the door.

Plenty of machines at Silverball locations don't work, or aren't 100%, but folks dont feel cheated cause there was no coin drop and you can just go play a game all you want on free play that is working. PHOF is full of machines that simply don't work and gladly eat up your money.

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

    We know all this.
My point is PBHOF's trademark customer service doesn't seem to jibe with this particular system.
If tim wanted to do a "pay by the hour" system, they'd be doing it.
These threads are always circular firing squads.

I don't see how it doesn't work, since they seem to always be kicking people out of the location for any little thing. They clearly have no problem being upset about people in the PHOF and kicking them out, calling the cops, or booting out children they find moving around too much and threatning their machines.

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

So you want to encourage MORE interaction between customers and staff by instituting an hourly wristband system?
I don't see the benefit for anybody!

It brings in more money, keeps out the trash and trouble makers, reduces flow of traffic, makes things more managable.

The current system clearly isn't working, so why not emulate one that's proven to work for others? Or the answer is to simply keep doing what isn't working and continues to degrade in condition?

    Quoted from Foxxstone_80:

I went to an barcade in Dallas with arcades and pinball machines. Pay by the hour, you got basically a debit card that you would swipe for each machine. Your time started on first swipe and automatically quit working after an hr or whatever you paid for.

It's a big expense to install such a system though, and having to add it to every pin? Oof.

Really the simple wristband method works well for so many, and it's really not something that needs a ton of monitoring. Don't sell by the hour, you do big block passes and entry fees.

It works cause most people don't spend the whole time at the location, and also many people drag friends along who don't really want to play either. You see it all the time at the local pincades that do this, family comes in, maybe 2-3 will play some games, but a family member or two just will sit there so you just sold passes to people who aren't even touching the machines? Bonus.

If your going to get really picky about it and try to enforce a short period of time like one hour only, it's going to get iffy on trying to handle.

    Quoted from Beechwood:

Cash only wristbands are a hard sell.

It literally works in countless places.

It's also Vegas, I lived there for years, many places will not let you in the door without a cover charge. This isn't some strange new world idea.

We are the audience, but the condition of the machines has made it that folks like to say the opposite and think that the general public give a crap about the history of these classic machines. It's not a place for competitive players who demand everything be in working tip top shape simply put.

It's funny that Vegas is packed with establishments that have clean and organized stores and locations, yet have no problem hiring folks.

    Quoted from donkadelic:

They don't ID when you enter the casino, it's non-stop when you're inside one however. Fremont with all the junkies is definitely looser though.
I haven't been carded once in any casino in any state the last 20 years or so other than Vegas, where last time was probably 50 times at least.
Love when alcoholic gambling degenerates get mad about the smell of second hand weed smoke. Same people who smoke 2 packs a day usually. I saw about 5 different people puke in the street when I was there last, now that's horrific. Street scammers that will literally physically grab you if you ignore their little scam cup and ball game. Non-stop drug solicitation, and by drugs I mean fentanyl laced caffeine powder. Hookers that make most of their money from robbing people. Fake people who only pretend to be nice to get a tip from you because casinos refuse to pay a fair wage. Automatic shufflers that are obviously rigged on a 6:5 blackjack payout (never seen that scam anywhere else either). Just the worst humanity has to offer, gateway to hell starts in Las Vegas.

Go to Vegas all the time, it's a regular visit for me and used to live there so have fondness for it, and almost never get carded anywhere. I play lots of slots and get those complimentary drinks from the servers walking around, I can't remember when I ever was last carded, most just nod and bring me a drink without a word.

    Quoted from flynnibus:

the no cheering/yelling thing has to be the dumbest thing in all the PHOF... on the strip no less.
The city that wants you to have fun and let loose...
    and PHOF over here like...
    [quoted image]
Don't you raise your voice! Inside voices!
    Like it's freaking library...

And pinball arcades are typically noisy already.

Guess with all the broken down machines, it's too quiet in there

    #1761 3 months ago

The old location was smaller but it even had a back work area they would cart pins to be worked on into. Such a wide open space, it really just seemed like a bunch of stubbornness on Tim's part to not make the effort to arrange things around to create a back work area like what is being attempted now.

    Quoted from vdojaq:

There is absolutely no reason an industrial style upstairs mezzanine for all of that crap couldn't be constructed on the back wall. It would actually give Tim MORE floor space.

Well, money, permits.... building codes.... oh yea money. Any type of commercial building is always a pain and expensive, so it's not exactly easy

    #1771 3 months ago

I like how you don't get most of the things in that picture

Problem being it's on the strip and open to the public, he can't just set something like that up inside and be done without it being a code issue.

It's not impossible, no one says that, it's just money. And well that's answer to most of Tim's problem, being willing to spend the money on fixing the problems. Even simple things is pulling teeth it seems with Tim like simply moving a dead pin to the back.... you think going in on a renovation and construction and dealing with permits is something hes gonna jump right into when he's worried about pallets of rubber chickens?

    Quoted from bob_e:

Tim's business model may be broken but it has worked for years so why fix it?

For years the PHOF was not the mess it is today.

PHOF used to be a must visit every year for us in Vegas, it's a place we no longer go to, he's lost us as customers, as well as other friends I know we travel with who would also go with us and are pinheads too. You can see lot of folks opinions changing, and really if it continues, things are just gonna go downhill further.

    Quoted from Black_Knight:

My wife and I visited the Silverball Retro Arcade in Delray Beach Monday.
The machines played great and the atmosphere was definitely cool retro. Tech on duty all day and they have night techs and cleaners too.
Had a couple 'rare' machines including BBB, Cosmic Gunfight and several of the transitional EM/SS games from Bally and Gottlieb.
Staff was great and bathrooms worked. Good beer selection too, but we didn't eat there.
In the last 18 months we've been to the PHOF, VFW, Next Level, Silverball, Roanoke, Decades, Asheville and dozens of other Arcades/Barcades across the US and Canada.
There is only one place on the list that I wouldn't visit again.

Silverball food is actually really good surprisingly. We are locals and go all the time, the state of the machines vary but usually are well kept. The few sterns they have are ironically the ones that often work the worst. Their menu is small and simple food, but dang is it good. They have one of the best burgers in the area

    #1829 3 months ago
    Quoted from Tydence:

I happened to have logged this!
At VFW I played 207 (New to me) games. At $162, that came out to $0.78 / Game

In Texas, I waited 20 minutes to play Munsters Pro.
That place is crazy and there are some really good players there.
A total of 72 machines were played in Texas. It came out to $1.15/game
Expo 2023 came out to $1.30/game.
At the PHoF, if 1/2 the machines are working, you are looking at around 217 machines.
A lot of the EM still play for a quarter, which is a great deal.
The total to play all the working machines at PHoF has cost about $126. - So, $0.58/game

Pinball expos aren't really fair to compare to set locations that are there 24/7 with an entry fee. Plenty of those out there that aren't swarmed with people, you can get your moneys worth easy.

    Quoted from Blackbeard:

Explain to me why he needs to do anything for you. Or anyone for that matter.

Because we are the paying customer. If he won't do it, then we won't give our money. Piss on enough people and you run a business into the ground

    Quoted from jwilson:

Video like that really shows how Tim's excuses are total bullshit.

Every pinball arcade I know of has a full team of techs. What's the secret? They get paid.

Tim will flaunt his millions they make and the charity.... but they can't pay for good techs? The excuse of people not wanting to work or not being good at it is nonsense when everyone else is having no issue hiring techs.

    #2035 49 days ago

Whenever critique comes up, it's always hey look at the charity! This is a tiring jedi mind trick
