Love them, hate them, it's their day!

    #2 1 year ago

Seriously?? That is awesome!! The movie definetly changed my life! Unfortunately I was too young to be there.

    #3 1 year ago

Born in 74, so not part of the initial premiere, but I did see it in the theater later (likely in 1980 around Empire being released). Back in those days I remember they'd often re-release movies, before home video existed.

    #4 1 year ago

My Mom took a group of us kids as my brother's birthday party.
Of course living in a rural area, it took until July for the movie to be shown locally to us.
    It was awesome though.

    #5 1 year ago

I was there. 7 years old, and excited off the charts.
    It was amazing...

    #6 1 year ago

It was probably July for me too. On the way in, they had a Darth Vader in costume signing cheap 8x10's.

That movie set my 10 year old brain on fire. It's still smoldering to this day...

The best memories of my childhood all relate to SW. I still remember going to see ESB with my parents, witnessing one of the greatest movies ever made..... I also just got home from watching Solo. After 40mintues I started playing on my phone and checking the time.... great job Kathleen Kennedy,s lucasfilm.

Was in high school. No desire to see it. Never did, none of the series. No interest in science fiction.

    #9 1 year ago

I was only a weee 3 months old at the time! Love the movies!

    Quoted from MrBally:

    No interest in science fiction.

You didn't see the pinball in the background shot then? To bad it was a Bally too.

Still controlling the public through medication since 1984! Also on this date James Dean dies at 24. Doesn't he deserve a pinball also after all Elvis got one.

    #12 1 year ago

I was 2 months old when the book came out.

Note that this comment was aboot Star Wars, not the book 1984 which I liked.

Yes between selective serotone reuptake inhibitors and cell phones, they have a hold on us.

Omega man, forbidden planet, solient green and planet of the apes all need pins.

And war of the world's would be epic.

Probably will never happen considering remakes. And any "new" "original" film just rips off bits and pieces of these classics.

Omega Man would be a descent example.

In the mention of the first Automobile manufactured, I wanted to share that a neat look into 100 year old auto manufacturing can be found at the Marathon Motors Factory in Nashville.
Near downtown, and the Parthenon, is the original factory, now home to stores, and American Pickers.
Whats cool, are all the restored old Milling and Machinery left in the hallways.....dozens of pieces!
It is encouraged to touch, turn the wheels and belts, lower the drill press, and mills.
I have watched the enormous satisfaction of children being exposed to this, but being allowed
to touch and turn, makes a world of difference from a museum.
Good for an hour or so, and something to see, not seen often.

A three-wheeled vehicle, the Benz Patent Motorwagen is the first automobile built to be propelled by an internal combustion engine, and its inventor Karl Benz presents it publicly for the first time in Mannheim, Germany. Benz will go on to help co-found the Mercedes-Benz car company.

As displayed at the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, MI.

I assume the first ever Cargument was manufactured by dinner, on July 3, 1886?

"Well you see, Franz, a good Schnitzel is kind of like a car..."

    #24 11 months ago

So that's why so many Bikini clad pinball machines started around then.

    #25 11 months ago

Can someone explain the beginning of this thread to me? It’s early and maybe my brain is not working yet.

    The bikini was released:

    https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/bikini-introduced

OK and then posts are referring to science fiction movies. Is there a science fiction bikini movie from 1946?

    #26 11 months ago

How is it possible that this post was started 40 fays ago, I am now the #26 poster, and there is not a single picture of a bikini? A sad day for Pinside.

    #27 11 months ago

Don't worry. This post started out as a Star Wars "On This Day," and the title and first post keep getting changed depending on the day. Which, honestly, makes it confusing... but I'm sure somebody shall step up and post an acceptable swimsuit shot.

    #28 11 months ago

    Hubba...hubba....it was 1946 after all.

I changed the date before I left as I do not have a computer at home. After all it's a date thing and really not that hard to understand.

July 6th Lt. Dan! July 6th!!!

Just found out Tab Hunter, who rose to fame as a movie star in 1950s Hollywood with his California surfer-boy looks, has died at age 86. Must have had the Surf Champ and other surf pins made because of him.

Any grunting going on back then?

Just how many times has this happened?

    Quoted from Grayman_EM:

Just how many times has this happened?

IN the poorer neighborhoods it happens every few years. In Manhattan I can only think of 1977, 2003, and Hurricane Sandy some years back.

I was there for the last two and it was fairly entertaining in some ways, a pain in the ass for others. For Sandy I don't think I had to go to work for a week.

    #48 11 months ago

The 2003 black out affected us all the way up here in Toronto. That was huge.

Power was back on by 5am, i remember my fan turning on while I slept. So it was 1 evening of no power and it was fun to hang out with the neighbors. If it went another day it would not have been so fun, but as it went it was a fun memory.
