We've had an official thread in the past, but I'm committed to keeping this one up to date with new releases and show news. For those of you that are already listeners, thanks for listening! For those of you who haven't jumped on board during our (as of now) 99 episode run that started back in October 2011, now is a great time. My name is Jeff, and I co-host the show with Don. We often have special guests on as well.

You can find us on iTunes, Stitcher, and all the big podcatcher services out there.

We release a show every other Monday, and we're pretty dang consistent with that schedule. From time to time we'll have special episodes, live shows (next one at Rocky Mountain Pinball Showdown in June), or an interview, but mostly you'll just hear from us twice a month.

Love the show, Jeff.

Thanks to you and Don for putting out fun and interesting content every two weeks! I'm in the middle of 79 right now.

My suggestion is more bingo talk, of course.

#3 8 years ago

Hmmm, maybe episode 80 should be the all bingo episode.

Get out.

Can you have Theresa skype in for gettin' in bed with Theresa segments since Nate has moved on to other things?

Love the show. Less health issue discussion would be an improvement. More talk about what you've played lately, maybe trends you go through in your collections where some games sit unplayed for weeks?

Incoming... We recorded with Dan Nikolich of the Rocky Mountain Pinball Showdown last night. Show should be up in a day or two! Thanks for listening!

#9 7 years ago

Two episodes will go up tonight, actually. Our episode #80 with Dan, and then my stupid road trip episode.

#10 7 years ago

Episode 80 - Medieval Mountin' is live, here: http://www.thepinballpodcast.com/2016/05/04/episode-80-medieval-mountin/

We recorded with Dan Nikolich of Rocky Mountain Pinball Showdown and we discussed a variety of topics, including the new AC/DC Pinball Arcade Kickstarter, some of the challenges of running an expo, and we feature Medieval Madness (yes, it only took 80 episodes to get to it). Joe Zenkus kicks in a new Pinball Popcorn skit at the end of the show. Oh, and Don gets all huffy over a really crappy eBay seller who is fleecing people on his pricing.

Special Episode - Ghostbusters Launch Party Road Trip http://www.thepinballpodcast.com/2016/05/04/ghostbusters-launch-party-road-trip/

I (Jeff) attended the Stern Ghostbusters launch party in Fort Collins, Colorado, held at Pinball Jones. As I made the 6 1/2 hour drive out and back, I recorded thoughts on the mic. Topics include Kaneda's Pinball Podcast, Stern's recent moves in the pinball world (including modgate), my early review of Ghostbusters, and how awful it is driving 14 hours in one day for a pinball tournament.

Impressions of Ghostbusters start at 55:33, in case that's all you're interested in listening to.

Recording with Kristin and Tim of MezelMods.com tonight, but no Jeff... *insert gentle weeping here*

#12 7 years ago

Episode 81 is live. We caught a case of the Mezels as Tim and Kristin of MezelMods sat down with Don to record a show while I (Jeff) was out traveling to Pin-a-Go-Go. Catch up with what the Mezels have been doing and get their input on recent goings on. The show is now up on iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, or whatever else you use to grab pods.

Direct link to the show: http://www.thepinballpodcast.com/2016/05/18/episode-81-tim-has-better-things-to-do/

Show notes and links can be found at the link above.

We're getting closer to our live show/chat at Rocky Mountain Pinball Showdown. We're hoping to fish for ideas about that soon. If you're going, or you just plan on listening later, or if you simply want to mess with us, feel free to send in ideas.

Thanks for listening and all the support!

Thanks for the kind words in Episode 83 and for correctly pronouncing my son's name. That was a fun weekend at RMPShowdown. I need to figure out a way to get down a day early and help set up OR stay a night longer and help tear down. Maybe Dan will let us be the official game-levelers next year, righting the wrongs of unfairly sloped playfields. P.S. the live show was a good time, glad you guys made it happen again.

That Black Knight was the best thing there. I'm so glad that you won the Best in Show for that.

I couldn't make it this year. Would have loved to see pictures of the most outstanding games and/or mods

Episode 84 went up during the week and we clear house on a lot of listener feedback and comments. It was a pretty chill week, and the show reflects that. Don had some games going and coming, Jeff had some coming, and we do our best to look knowledgeable in the face of some great user-submitted questions. Joe provides another Pinball Popcorn at the end, so stay tuned for that.

Episode 85 records this upcoming weekend. Feel free to get questions and comments in now.

Episode 85 is up.

Nick from the For Amusement Only EM and Bingo Podcast joins us to discuss Ghostbusters LE, what a NIB bingo might cost, his mad science project, the Pinball Olympics (Zika free, we swear), and all the other recent goings on in pinball.

http://www.thepinballpodcast.com/2016/07/20/episode-85-the-most-heinous-dmd-hater/

As a tease to the Pinball Olympics, we took the games released in the last four years and awarded bronze, silver, and gold medals to various categories. Winners stretch across the four years broadly, and it was fun discussing picks.

#21 7 years ago

Thanks again for having me on, fellas!

Not to hijack your thread, but I do want people to know that they'll be able to play the Multi-Bingo at this year's York show in York, PA (unless it catches on fire or something beforehand). C'mon out and give it a shot!

"There's nothing to stop you from gambling on the outcome of a Coke machine."

Words of wisdom, Nick.

#23 7 years ago

Don't let anything get in the way of your dreams, Jeff. If we ever meet up, we can play, 'who gets a Coke when they press the button' from a soft drink machine.

Also: it's true - just because you can win more than one replay at a time, doesn't mean that immediately you're going to sell them off. Plus, in your home, who are you going to sell them to? I'm not buying.

When you strip that (potentially) seedy aspect away, what are you left with? Pure gameplay. Each replay gives you a chance at earning that next feature or odds increase. It does not guarantee it. Therefore, you have to have several replays to really get the machine singing.

There's nothing to stop a location from buying off your replays on whatever modern game is out there, either.

Episode 86, #ShortShowForHarambe went live last night. We were joined by Joe to talk about the last two weeks in pinball, the first five things we each do when picking up a new (used) pinball machine, and Joe came at us with a new Pinball Popcorn skit.

Show notes: http://www.thepinballpodcast.com/2016/08/03/episode-86-shortshowforharambe/

Note: We recorded before I personally realized just how widespread the GB ghosting was. While I still feel like we should wait and see what Stern does before panicking, I didn't realize at the time how widespread the issue was.

http://www.thepinballpodcast.com/2016/08/17/episode-87-jeff-has-another-epic-meltdown/

I kind of lose my cool over Stern's recent issues and reluctance to communicate. We respond to listener questions, and Joe kicks in a new pinball popcorn skit.

You probably made this right before Stern contacted KPG didn't you? I always hate when breaking news changes things right after an article/podcast goes up.

We bought a new house and moved recently, which is no easy feat for a family of six. Among the gameroom casualties were a shattered arcade marquee glass, a ripped Lethal Enforcers translite, a cracked CRT monitor ( ...made an amazing suction sound for a solid minute until it was filled up with air), and a plethora of broken switch wires, loose harnesses and other terrible odds and ends.

What are some of the worst gameroom casualties you guys have witnessed in moving from home to home?

-----Ryan Grant

#29 7 years ago

I almost killed my dad moving games into my new house.

We just closed on the house, and my parents were helping my wife and I fix it up. During this I found a decent Space Odyssey nearby and I picked it up. The same day, my cousin who lives minutes away, texts me to tell me the Jungle Lord they got from her husbands grandparents.

So on the way home, it starts to rain. A lot. And I get a quick glance at my cousin's house and I see Jungle Lord just sitting in the driveway. In the rain.

So we rush home, back up, and unload the game. I have tunnel vision and I'm trying to get the game inside in the basement down the stair with dad bracing the game down the steps. And he slips. And I almost slip because I'm the only thing holding the game and keeping the dolly from rolling down on him.

Not my best day. I don't ask dad to help anymore because I felt so bad about it.

I got Jungle Lord that day. Barely covered with a tarp and soaking wet. I've had it for two years now, and I'm still not prepared to fully work on it.

I had kind of the same deal. I had my Dad help bring in my 6803 game and those games are heavy. I don't know if the pressed wood cabs make them heavier or what. Dad was grunting the whole way. Since then I've bought a lift cart, a 2 wheeler, plastic wrap, and ratchet straps so I can move games myself without having to bother him.

#31 7 years ago

Wow... Bad luck with dads around here. My father-in-law has insisted on helping a couple times, but I have the routine down pat to move stuff alone. Inevitably, he always jostles the game into a door frame, or drops it on the threshold while I'm grumbling under my breath. GOOD TIMES.

Quoted from vintageclub:

I took out about 5 spindles of our railing when my TZ got away from me and my dad was on the bottom side. Rather than let him get crushed, I shoved one arm down the back of the cabinet and stuck another arm into the railing. About 5 spindles snapped before I stopped it. Slight shoulder tweak, a bit of skin loss, some cuts, but everything was ok. That was the last time I moved a game down stairs without an appliance dolly.

Oh, and episode 88 is now up!

http://www.thepinballpodcast.com/2016/08/31/episode-88-fart-fairy/

Dan Burfield of http://tiltcycle.com joined us and we had a good time talking about his process and what else has been going on lately. Of course the Batman '66 stuff came out RIGHT AFTER we recorded, so that's a glaring omission, but we'll get to it on the next episode. Hopefully we have pics/video by then.

#33 7 years ago

A post wouldn't be the same without a health update from Jeff!

My downstairs only has two options. One option is navigating a 90 degree turn halfway down. The second option is going down the sharp rock steps with a curved design outside. I call this the path of the dead. Shockingly, the second way is the better way!

So, once a game gets to my basement it will stay there for a long time!

Episode 90 is live.

http://www.thepinballpodcast.com/2016/09/26/episode-90-lance-armstrongs-favorite-pins/

We talk about single ball games (no multiball modes), Batman '66 and its pricing, listener feedback, the Stern Army, Magic Girl/Houdini, and a fair bit of random odd talk thrown in.

For those that hang in to the end, there's a bit of goofing that might get the Stern lawyers showing up at Don's door.

#35 7 years ago

No Cyclone love? For shame... Just kidding, of course, but Cyclone is a great single-ball game. My wife and I made it our 10-year wedding anniversary gift to each other in 2011 and we really enjoy it a ton to this day. Clowns can be a make or break for a lot of people though, I get it.

Episode 91b - Stuck Fern is live (link to notes): http://www.thepinballpodcast.com/2016/10/18/episode-91-b-stuck-fern/

Episode 91b is a recap of Pinball Expo 2016. We cover all the good, the bad, and the head-shakingly terrible of everything that came out of the show. Joe Zenkus joins us as he was in attendance to give a firsthand account of things.

Enjoy.

Episode 92 - We Effed Up. Like...a Bunch is up now: http://www.thepinballpodcast.com/2016/10/28/episode-92-we-effed-up-like-a-bunch/

Changing the thread title was a bad idea. I heard about it. Sorry.

This week we cover a lot of listener feedback, mostly about how we goofed up so many times last show. We try to avoid ranting, but it creeps in here and there. Ah, well. Enjoy!

#40 7 years ago

This is Parnell. I have no idea how you find GB easy, but maybe I shouldn't flail flip so much

#41 7 years ago

PinBot's attract mode sounds can be set to OFF, LESS, or ALOT in the menu. Don must have his set in one of the latter positions. I keep my attract sounds off except during the semi-annual gameparties. The odd thing with PinBot (and possibly other early Williams Sys11 games) is that during attract mode, when the features and rules are cycling, just for a brief moment the flipper-enable relay clicks on. So if you're holding down the flipper button it will energize for a half second. Must have something to do with the "multiplexing" Williams did with their flashers and coils to make Xstors handle double-duty.

Episode 94.... Xanadu pinball? While listening, I immediately remembered the Geiger "FLY HIGH" pinball, which was a conversion of a Bally SuperSonic machine with art from The Neverending Story. The girl in the center has a Xanadu-esque look, soooo.... is that the game?

Yes, I found that PinBot "bug" by leaning on the cab while working between games, and YES, my wife gets all kinds of turned on when I show off my random pinball trivia knowledge, and YES, one of these statements is a lie.

p.s. the Denver trivia seminar was a fun time.

Thanks for updating the thread. I think the last few episodes with Jessica on board have been a lot of fun, hopefully that translates into a better show to listen to as well.

This will be our last numbered episode before the big party in Vegas. We *might* slip something special out the door ahead of time, but I'm scheduled for a surgery next week, and it might be tough to record. Yeah, health updates...I know.
