Yeah, the holes are for roll over buttons (circa 1968 Willams, so not star rollovers). There is an insert around each of those holes that gets lit up under the paper.

Going to be interesting to see what kind of price this fetches. I wish it would stay in the local area and make return trips to TPF, as it's questionable at best even right now if I will be going or not, and would love to see it all done. =\
Is it for sale?
One way or the other- it’s a unique game and was done at a high level. Props to the OP for continued excellent work! So cool it’s hand drawn. Gives it a look that’s entirely unexpected and novel.

Actually I'm planning on doing a stress test prior to TPF. I've talked to the guys at Cidercade, and they're cool with me bringing it in over a weekend. I'll post up the dates once I have them finalized.

Apologies to OP if it won't be..I thought he had said somehwhere he was planning on selling it..
Yes, I will be taking offers at TPF. While I'll be sad to see it go, I've always considered it a learning experience and testbed/prototype for a custom whitewood or small boutique run sometime in the future. The $ from a sale would get reinvested into new parts, P-ROC hardware, etc.

Someone will get a truly unique machine, and I'm sure whatever you sell it for won't begin to compensate for your time sunk into building this beauty! Please keep posting pics for those of us that can't make it to TPF ...
More cabinet work. I've added laser etched line art to the inside of the cabinet duplicating the exterior veneer inlay designs, as well as adding an info/credits block to the back wall. On the outside I'm routing out the areas where the inlaid 3d carved detailing will be built.
So.
Many.
Triangles....

Testing out the new lock miter joint router bit for the new cabinet. The plastic jig to get the settings right
on the router height and fence was *so* worth getting. Pretty much a perfect joint on the first try.

Finally starting to repopulate the playfield. Hope to start flipping tomorrow evening for the initial smoke test...

For anyone interested to get a sneak peek at Polynesia, I will have it at Cidercade (https://www.cidercade.com/) on Saturday, March 10 for testing, and will be there for most of the late afternoon and evening. Come on down and give me some feedback!

I'll try and make it. I'm....unlikely to be able to get to TPF.
this is looking so good
and just added it to the custom games thread
in the spirit of tiki I just supported a kickstarter playing card project with the tiki theme
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/strangewise/tikilandia-playing-cards?ref=user_menu
Wife and I should be stopping by for a bit. Gotta run home and pick her up, even though I'm about to get out of work at 4 and like....3 miles away LOL.
awesome work, your game looks stunning - please post some pics of the cabinet from different angles to see the tiki.
Edit: I updated the homebrew index thread that your game is complete and is the first one of 2018

Will do, once it's in better lighting. In the mean time...
Looks amazing. I Am dying for better pics and a video of the playfield while playing. I want so see the inserts light up,
Pre-TPF Stress Test Results:
On site from 10am to 1am.
Total number of plays: 193
Issues encountered: 4
1 ball hang in ball trough.
1 cold solder joint in player count lighting circuit on backbox.
1 switch making poor contact in relay assembly.
1 pop bumper mounting screws stripped, temporarily remounted on site, further refurb/repair to take place this week.
Approx. 60 minutes of total down time.
Observed no playfield wear. Ball action was very fast and smooth on the clearcoated playfield.
Location note: The staff at the Cidercade were *fantastic*. The house tech (Yo Jacob!) was a great help in fixing the pop bumper, and the rest of the staff were polite, helpful, and very enthusiastic. I hope to work with the Cidercade in the future when I start developing my own original whitewood designs as my primary public testing site.
Oh, and Houdini kicks ass. In both meanings. It's a great pin, but *damn* those shots are tight...
I had a great time playing on this pin last night. It feels very polished. You can tell a lot of care has gone into this project. Great job! See you again next weekend at TPF.
I played 5 or 6 games on it. Super smooth, looks amazing in person! Just a ridiculous amount of detail. I'd never played Student Prince before, but I definitely found a groove, and my best score was just shy of 5k, which I didn't feel like was too shabby.
Quoted from Hardsuit:5k? Damn, that's the highest by far I've seen on that machine.
Quiddity did like 3500 her first game. She did say that the lockdown bar made it hard to use the flipper buttons because of the way it protrudes, but like I said, it felt great to me. Apparently I just have giant bear hands or something. Still, might be worth considering for the future projects. =)
I had a TON of returns to the shooter lane and multiple rolls over the top button on that game. Racks up fast when it bounces up there, double taps, and you end up with a quick 700 or 900 points you weren't expecting from a 300+400 or 400+500. I'd say my average score was around 2.8k though. The 5k was just a beautiful fluke, I think.
Yeah, the gate for the shooter return lane wasn't installed, so it did make for some extra point opportunities now and again. Just one of the the final details I'm wrapping up before TPF.
Quoted from Andyzola87:Has anyone taken vid of this machine
Working on it, most likely at TPF. Technically it's not done yet since it's still in the prototype cabinet. I'm still building the improved final cabinet, so I haven't been in a rush to get a full set of photos and vid.
Nice job on the machine bet it will be a hit at TPF hope your ready for all the questions your going to be asked. Might want to put photos of machine in the various stages of build on a tablet pc or digital picture frame by machine for people to look at while waiting to play.

That....explains a lot. LMAO. /facepalm I knew that score was too good to be true!
Holy crap, we won Best Custom!
Thanks to everyone who played Polynesia at TPF! Wish I could have talked to more of you, but had to work my vendor booth out in the hallway.
I will have Polynesia set up for free play for a month in the entrance area of the Dallas Makerspace, exact dates TBA. Official open tour nights are Thursdays from 7-9pm, but hit me up for other times in the evening if you want to drop in.

This is pretty amazing! I'll have to show this to my buddy who's into both Tiki and Pinball. He'll flip!
Thanks for bringing it. I played a few games with my son, and that machine is soooo pretty. Well done, wish I had a fraction of your skills!
Did my game audit, and Polynesia had 387 games played during TPF. Thanks for the enthusiasm, and I hope the dollar games were fun...
Polynesia is now set up and playing in the front lobby of the Dallas Makerspace (https://www.dallasmakerspace.org) for the next month. We have open tour nights every Thursday from 7 to 9pm, or send me a PM and I'll see if we can meet up at another time. We (the VECTOR committee) are also hoping to host an EM classics night at the Cidercade in a month or two, will post with details when it is scheduled.
O_o. Wow, the guys at the Dallas Makerspace like their pinball. 461 plays so far in the front lobby, with a grand total of 1,041 plays on the newly clearcoated playfield. I took the glass off tonight to check the condition, and the playfield was still in great shape. Wiped it down to remove the light coat of dust/dirt and good to go!
