I have to say I really like the powder coating jobs you've done, to NOT to include the coin door. To me, it's just too much color. I think the black coin door actually compliments the artwork on the cabinet better.
Nice job on your pins
Kerry

thanks, Kerry! Appreciate the feedback. It’s so subjective…a guy in AFM thread already told me he doesn’t like the job at all and the green is out of place?! LMAO haters!

Powdercoat is an awesome customisation for you the owner DaddyManD so it really doesn’t matter what others say.

I think we are very lucky to have Steve doing this awesome work. He did my ironman coindoor years ago and sent 2 doors to Australia (1 for a mate) as no one here can do them without melting the coindoor frame. Lol

Here we go! HemiOrange09 Steve check it out! Could not be happier with this color. Under normal light the green matches the UFOs on the playfield and art blades. It also has large silver flakes in it which really give it a retro feel (important to me since this is an original restored game). Under blacklight it is absolutely amazing! And the playfield greens also light up which I wasn’t aware of! This is Danio Green from Prismatic Powders.
Install took awhile to ensure I didn’t damage the decals when removing the old side rails (my first time). Took the opportunity to do some touch ups of the cab while I was at it.
My buddy is borrowing my STh which Steve also did for me in Sassy Pink (also uv reactive)…when I get it back they will go side by side. I am not a huge blacklight guy but its cool for parties!

I applaud you sir. I too suggest you add pinstadiums. The U/V flashers will really get it cooking!

I hope this doesn’t come across as a “hater” but from my eye that AFM looks so much better original stainless or black.
That’s the beauty of owing your own game though, you can do what you want.
The powder coat work looks great just not for that game IMHO.

A prior lineup. Steve did 4 of these. A 5th was my first Stern (and NIB) game from Pinball Refinery. Via Gino (hint hint).

Guess which.

Outside of the Hobbit, that’s the only other game I’ve seen benefit from the gold side mirror! Gorgeous when it works!

The customer that ordered the armor set for his 007 Premium sent me some pictures with the powder coating installed on the machine... It's a perfect look for the 007.

I have not done any CCr SE armor.... What color were you thinking?... Maybe a rusty brown color?

#513 1 year ago

Was considering a brushed gold type color for a "golden gun" style to match the Brian Allen artwork.

Quoted from HemiOrange09:

A thinking of a few different options:

- LE is supposedly translucent black with an opacity of 80% over the bare metal (textured effect)
- "Rust bucket" or a rust effect like you mentioned (have you done this on pinball before? curious to see pics)
- One Pinsider did a combo of jet black and disco tangerine (pretty cool effect)

I don't plan on doing the coin door, so I want something that still blends decently with the black coin door

Yes, I have done rust bucket before.... It is the same color that is on The Walking Dead LE, and I did it for a Junk Yard machine. Just let me know what you decide and you can send me a PM to go over the details.

I’m hopefully getting Elvira this spring and would love to send you hardware for powdercoating. I have a newbie question, what’s the best way to store the pin after I’ve take. The side armor, back box hinge, and legs off to be shipped out? Can the machine sit safely on the ground on its belly? Normally I’d stand it in its back but that’s not possible with the hinge removed right?

Hey neighbor, which Elvira? Make sure you put down 2x4's or something slightly wider than the width of the machine (piece near front and piece near back) if leaving the machine on the floor, otherwise, good luck lifting it off the floor again . I would also put split pool noodles or thick cardboard 90 degree pieces the length of your cabinet rail area and rest the head face down on those.

Hey! Elvira HoH premium. Thanks for the advice. Technically the back box can stay upright with the bolts in right?

In my opinion, there are 2 options; Get a cheap or old set of legs to have the machine propped up on while you're waiting for the powder coated ones to come back OR just buy a set from Steve when you're ready and leave the original set on and you can keep them as spares for the future. I think option B is more cost effective because you don't have to send legs out and you end up with a nice extra set. But that's just my opinion.

Set the game on saw horses with some foam padding for protection. The head should be ok with 2 bolts in the back once the hinges are removed. I have done this technique several times for powdercoating and custom painted armor sets on pins. All the suggestions given will work well. Just be patient and find the safest method that protects the pinball.

At this point, I'm all for anything you can do, that is close to this color. My poor GB sits powered off and coin door-less atm, and I'm ready to make it work again!

Those are all great points/suggestions on having your machine apart when shipping me your parts... I have an old set of legs that I use to have the machine on while I am having the parts media blasted and then I powder coat. On the newer Sterns I do install the bolts inside the machine to secure the back box to the cabinet, here they seem to secure it better than on the backside.

FYI Prismatic Powder offers free swatches (just pay shipping). It’s immensely helpful in selecting a powder and you can order dozens of them under the single shipping charge. For CCr I ordered about 15 varieties of gun gray and various golds. Realized with my basement lighting the dark gray would just appear black so also why I lean gold. They also ship super fast you’ll have swatches in two days.

Did not know this. Good point on lighting. My games are also in a basement.

this one is really cool and the swatch has a nice texture to it, not totally smooth. In my basement lighting though it just looked so dark you couldn’t appreciate the color

Did anybody do a James Bond Premium yet? Dying to see how different colors will look like on that.
That being said, do we already know how the stem armor for premium and pro is going to look like? Debating if I should wait and send that in or just go with the lollipop rails.

You absolutely want to order up more samples/colors than you think you’ll need. I ordered 30 swatches from Prismatic for my CCr and once I got them in my gameroom, they really come to life (lighting is also different). Really hard to tell looking at a picture. Some also have a texture or depth to them.

I have posted pictures of the colors on this thread for the blue on MBr, but don't think anyone posted pictures of their machine with the armor installed on it.

At the top of every page on this thread you can see all the pictures that I and others have posted. If you click the blue link " View topic image gallery" you can see just the pictures from each of the pages. Then you can change the page numbers and still just see the pictures on the page. This will be an easy way to see and find just the colors you are interested in instead of reading and scrolling through everything. It is a great feature that Pinside uses on threads.
