great pic!

Quoted from northerndude:

I bites yet. One swiped at a hook, we have beer and patience
[quoted image]

more importantly... u have alcohol and a wood stove! they don't need to bite to have a good time on the hardwater! maybe a cribbage board! troopers tho in this weather!

ya.. its definitely not "roughing it" if you have a camper! almost hard to go back to a pop up tent after!

Quoted from Bull:

My friend couldn’t believe it he said on his worst days ice fishing he would always catch at least a small perch.
Still a lot of fun just being out, and maybe tomorrow will be different.

they always say that.. that's why it's called fishing.. not catching! the more times you go.. the more you learn to tell them fish stories too! you also seem to forget about the slow days and only relive the days you couldn't keep 'em off the hook!

4 guys..3 days..good times! Northern Saskatchewan at Mironde Lake. We lost a good buddy last year and brought some of his ashes to leave at one of our favorite spots. Dude took 5 minutes to reel in a rock! And yes, we stayed well hydrated!

Quoted from mtn-:

How do you cook it?

Lightly dust in batter/fish crisp then fry them off in vegetable oil! Preferably on a nice flat shore area just meters away from the boat! Or wait til the end of the fishing day & back at the cabin where there's a sink and kitchen area (& the whiskey!)

Quoted from northerndude:

This!!!
, or some people cook it like burbot here and make a "poor mans lobster" - cut it to squares and boil it and dip it in melted butter.

Yup, i agree.. pike is delicious. Great texture, it's firm & meaty.. i enjoy them around 30-36" long.. nothing over 7lbs tho as the filets are too thick to cook consistently and the meat is soft in the middle. (Imo) and yes, Gotta get them Y bones out!

This guy was 44" ..would of tasted like a rubber boot but I've seen people eat them this big.

Quoted from northerndude:

Pike is the best up north where I live and farther north. Much firmer and less gross,ha

100% agree!

Headed back up north again in less than 3 weeks! Not quite as far as Northern Dude lives but great fishing at Mironde Lake, Sask. We stay at Silence Of the North cabins. We wait an extra week after May long weekend to make sure the ice is off the lake up there!

Mostly walley but there is one pike on that stringer!

Quoted from punkin:

Sorry, meant Canada in general. I'd love to come fish for your Halibut. Also like to fish Florida for the mighty Tarpon.

We are a 20-30 hour drive (east or west) away from anything like that. Just fresh water lakes here!

#185 1 year ago
Quoted from northerndude:

Mirond North of me, but I live at the World record Walleye lake.
But I fish at Lac La Ronge. I'll head up for hopefully several 20lb + Lake Trout middle of June.

Oh shit! I thought u live in la ronge! We have done the Tobin Lake trip many times too.. biiig Walters! (Walleye)

Quoted from punkin:

But you can get it in the shops yes? Is it A grade or just so-so?

Yes, or wait for friends to go on vacations to the coasts and ship some home with them! Halibut is so damn gooood!

*we have a store here called Pacific Fresh Fish where you can get all sorts of ocean goodness!

We did a seafood cook at my place a while ago.. that claw was lunch the next day. Heated it in butter then shredded it up & made into a lobster roll sammich!

Quoted from Jaeg:

If anyone will be in Cabo the week of Jan 15th and wants to split a fishing charter send me a PM.

Tempting! Very tempting
