Maybe someday when I remember that I have a smart phone now, and I can make pictures with it and post here, I can add to this thread.

I have had a smart phone for over a year now, and I have caught a few pretty good fish, and every damn time I am so excited about catching the fish in the first place, I totally forget to take a picture of it.

That’s some healthy fish there ! What lake is that from ? By the color of them ,I’ll guess Ely/northern MN .

I've caught marlin in as little as 26m of water. That one was in winter too!

The good/bad of Cabo is their really isn't much for swimming beaches but it gets really deep right off shore. We had Humpback whales around us all morning while fishing and could always see land.

That’s from last mountain lake in Saskatchewan Canada. Very healthy walleye lake. Tons of monsters.

Grew up fishing on my dads flat bottom 12ft boat and my grandparents dock and boats on a small lake. Haven’t really fished as an adult at all.
Bought a 16 foot Saturn Kaboat at the end of last year to replace our sea eagle kayak. Took it out a few times just for fun and really enjoyed it.
Tomorrow I’m taking it fishing with my wife and 2 daughters, 5 and 9. My daughters have never fished before so should be fun. My wife grew up in Petosky and fished a lot but always off piers or land. Going for some crappie in Stony Creek Lake in Michigan, it’s supposedly known for it and at one time and maybe today as well had the state record crappie caught in it.
I’m a complete beginner all over again with fishing, looking forward to learning about it, catching some fish and getting in some quality family time. Going to go with my dad in a few weeks so he can teach my girls all the stuff I forgot. I’ll post some pictures if we catch anything.

Super fun day, we went after work so had about 4 hours on the lake. Cruised around, anchored and had dinner on the boat and did some fishing. I caught 2 pike, had a huge one on the line and it broke my swivel in half. My older daughter hooked one and had it part way in and it got away. My younger daughter was scared being the first fish I caught had teeth. I didn’t know there was so much pike in there, they were jumping all over the place.
Going to need a trip to cabelas to get some stuff I was missing and hopefully we will get out again soon!

Do you eat pike "over there"? Around Sweden and in Norway we usually grind smaller pikes to make pattys. Tasty, I think. The one in your picture would be perfect @parkshow30

I guess the reason for using smaller pike is they havent accumulated so much toxins yet, not sure though.

I’ve eaten it once when I was younger, I remember it being very boney. Most people don’t bother because it’s hard to prepare I think. That one was probably under the limit, I didn’t measure, they need to be 24” in most waters. Some lakes have no size limit rules as they have an abundance of them.
I’m going back to that lake to fish next week with my dad who has much more experience than me so hopefully we do well.

We eat pike in Saskatchewan a lot. Just have to get around those bones when cleaning them. They make great eating fish.

How do you cook it?

Lightly dust in batter/fish crisp then fry them off in vegetable oil! Preferably on a nice flat shore area just meters away from the boat! Or wait til the end of the fishing day & back at the cabin where there's a sink and kitchen area (& the whiskey!)

This!!!

, or some people cook it like burbot here and make a "poor mans lobster" - cut it to squares and boil it and dip it in melted butter.

Yup, i agree.. pike is delicious. Great texture, it's firm & meaty.. i enjoy them around 30-36" long.. nothing over 7lbs tho as the filets are too thick to cook consistently and the meat is soft in the middle. (Imo) and yes, Gotta get them Y bones out!

Sorry, meant Canada in general. I'd love to come fish for your Halibut. Also like to fish Florida for the mighty Tarpon.

Headed back up north again in less than 3 weeks! Not quite as far as Northern Dude lives but great fishing at Mironde Lake, Sask. We stay at Silence Of the North cabins. We wait an extra week after May long weekend to make sure the ice is off the lake up there!

Mirond North of me, but I live at the World record Walleye lake.
But I fish at Lac La Ronge. I'll head up for hopefully several 20lb + Lake Trout middle of June.

Love the dark green of those northern walleye

Yes, or wait for friends to go on vacations to the coasts and ship some home with them! Halibut is so damn gooood!

*we have a store here called Pacific Fresh Fish where you can get all sorts of ocean goodness!

No. Maybe if like superstore or costco brings in a bunch. But no fresh (salt water) fish for us that I ever see. Maybe some seafood shops get it in??

fuckin' Capt'n Highliner in the cardboard box for us

Bugger, i used to live 5 hours west of where i am now and would tow the boat over for a 2 week trip a couple times a year, stock up on snapper and stuff. We had freshwater fish there, but not as good as the salt water.

But the seafood trucks would come up the range from the coast on weekends with fresh fish, or you could get fresh frozen fish from the supermarkets.

Spoilt now, i live here and never go fishing. I can buy top grade fish at the seafood store on the corner, my Woolworths supermarket often has fresh local prawns, oysters and fish.

We did a seafood cook at my place a while ago.. that claw was lunch the next day. Heated it in butter then shredded it up & made into a lobster roll sammich!

Good thing my wife is a better cook than I’m a fisherman! My dad and I went out today, caught some more pike on accident and let them go. My wife turned 4 of these
Into this. Rice mushrooms and Napa cabbage on the side and we had a great meal.

#194 1 year ago
Quoted from punkin:

Bluegill. It’s in the sunfish family. Apparently only native to North America mostly found east of the Rockies. I used to catch them all the time as a kid as they are abundant and eat most everything. They are usually pretty small and not worth cooking up, but these were a pretty good size for bluegill and we didn’t get any crappie or perch so we kept 4.

Had a good day boating and swimming on Lake St Clair today with my wife and 2 girls. Did a little trolling and caught a few smallmouth. Great fighters jumping out of the water multiple times getting them in! Kept these 2 for some fried sandwiches. 17” and 16”. Got 4 good fillets out of them.

Was in Key Largo and couldn’t get any big fellas in the boat while offshore due to the taxman (for whatever reason the last 2-3 years ,sharks are everywhere and very aggressive )and very rough seas .No big deal as we went in to the reef and loaded up on some good eats .I thank the seas for this as always we will enjoy
