Quoted from TheFamilyArcade:You have really bad taste. And not just in Pinball.
Ha....happy u think so....thank god...be painful living inside that head of yours
Quoted from colonel_caverne:Pinside rules #1: be nice ..too
This thread is nice and debating is nicer
I have 2 games of the final four (MM and JP), and had the 2 others.
My main complain with AFM is...I was preferring playing MM! Just a matter of taste. And there is no way to own 2 similar games in my small room. Design playfield are the same, MM playfield artwork seems to me better, the castle toy is the best ever made imho, trolls are incredibly fun to play, and I love the way to reach and play all the MB together. Jackpots callouts are so enjoyable to hear, so fun. However strobes effect (when it works) is incredibly fun to play. Both are smooth and humorous games. Just can’t stand after a while the alien toys, feel just noisy at the end to me. So MM all the way.
In the other semifinal, really tough decision for me. There is no match regarding theme, don’t really like LOTR saga...but the sound is really enjoyable specially during MB. You really feel you are going to the war, the adrenaline is soaring all of the sudden and this will be an epic fight. I always thought the sound package of LOTR was as good as MM. I miss this game...
JP is the best game I have played since some years. Theme is matching for me (without being my graal) but what I really like is the playfield design, creative and smooth to shot in the same time. This is what I was looking for, a fast and punishing game with deep rules, I mean deeper than an IM or BSD that I respect as they are. Rules are already good and still in progress, I just hope the code could allow to stack MB (I love stacking MB) (I heard it was possible to stack Trex and raptor but it seems to me not clear or doable). My only complain with JP is the playfield artwork...shame that it didn’t benefit a Franchi or zombi yéti processing. I voted JP....but it could have been LOTR!
All really valid points. I can easily see why you would feel this way. I really wanted to love JP, and I'll readily admit its a very fun game with a great design/rules, etc, but the fact that Stern acquired essentially zero assets killed it for me. They did a nice job with what they had, but it could have been so much more.
Quoted from freeplay3:Stern puts out a great game. As long as somebody hacks into the software and installs all the stuff it should have had from the factory.
I heard there was a guy adding sounds and video assets to the game, but that Stern somehow was trying to prevent it from happening? I saw a brief clip and it was very nicely done...not sure if this is true or not?
Quoted from multibrawlr:With Pinball Browser, yeah. It's apparently not working on newer versions of JP code, along with some other recent games.
I'm fine with JP's default sound and effects but to each their own. When it comes to voting for stuff, I personally only consider the original "factory" version of a game without any mods...but again, everyone's different so whatever.</blockquoteI agree to each their own....
Quoted from metallik:They built an entire new storyline to get around the lack of assets, and created a killer ruleset to go with it. I'll take gameplay over assets any day. LOTR also has great rules but the playfield is weak. Weak assets... weak playfield.. gameplay is most important, playfield wins.
Not disagreeing with u at all, but hard to argue that if they had any assets it would be more enjoyable....they basically got the logo and the theme song.
Quoted from Tkaye:I'm still disappointed IMDN lost to Williams IJ!
Maiden is so superior, it could have made it to the final four!
Inconceivable!
No way.... I couldn't sell mine fast enough....
Quoted from o-din:Sell them both and buy something good.
I'd love to know your top 4-5 games of all time
Quoted from o-din:I have owned many games in these polls, but most went down the road some time ago.
I love every game I now own and that spans from the mid 50s all the way into the 2000s.
As far as modern games that these polls seem to represent, for me, the game doesn't have to be highly rated especially since I obviously came from a different background than those that made the pinside top 100 what it is, but it has to have attitude, or something that I can relate to, look good enough to fit in with my lifestyle, and be fun to play. So, of this particular era of games mine are-
T-2
Dirty Harry
Judge Dredd
No Fear and most recently
High Roller Casino
And I might soon be picking up another Nascar. I know, I have very expensive tastes.
Nice....I've only played T-2 and Judge Dredd on your list....they were both fun pins
Quoted from o-din:JP could still be on top in two years if they don't make another new game.
Thats funny!
Quoted from o-din:This is like sports now. Seems nobody wants to watch a 15 year old baseball game.
I don't know I enjoyed watching the old Masters highlights, and the USC vs Northwestern Rose Bowl last night
Quoted from o-din:I'm still waiting for them to bring back the monster trucks from 1989.
Watching the Giants beat the Patriots again has kind of lost it's luster.
I did enjoy watching the Niners beat the Bengals in the Super Bowl last week .... especially the part where the game was condensed down to one hour
Quoted from Doctor6:I was always under the impression everyone loved AFM more than MM? Now we know they really are neck and neck. This is one hell of a semi final. The one thing we learned is all four of these games are effing amazing.
If you've owned them both you can see why....they have very similar characteristics, and both very fun to play.
Quoted from o-din:I'll give JP this. At least they chose a theme from the 90s instead of one from the 80s or prior. Super modern.
Its really a dinosaur theme versus JP....they only use the logo and theme song so saying its a JP game is a stretch
Quoted from Vino:JJPOTC is equally light on franchise assets.
Doesn’t seem to matter, fans love them.
LOTR will be tough to beat.
Not nearly as light as JP....its not even close....not saying its not a fun game just stating a fact that it has very little movie assets (theme, Nedry, and the logo is pretty bare bones if u ask me)
Quoted from MK6PIN:Wow!! Takeaway is they all have solid fan-bases....sort of a coin toss...better than the TV I'm watching currently...searching....
I think your exactly right....they are all good games....its just a matter how many pinsiders own what machine and whats their flavor of the day.
Quoted from freeplay3:Or they all lose and we give the title to Twilight Zone.
or for an even better game....POTC
Quoted from AFM95:Okay guys - a handful of announcements...
1. Several Pinsiders mentioned they would like to have a 3rd place voting thread - you got it. Give me a few minutes to start it.
2. I will get the finals thread up as soon as possible. I will have it up no later than 10am EST/7am PST. It could be even up tonight.
3. Voting is going to be hidden until voting closes Monday night. Just in case there is a blowout, we want to make sure we keep the last round suspenseful.
4. Voting will end Monday night at 10pm EST/7pm PST (cpr9999 - don't forget to vote!)
5. Thanks to everyone who has favorite(d), followed, voted, commented over the last couple of weeks. This has been fun.
Smart....I'm expecting a pretty big blow out
