I'd say no to glue. Buy new old "boogie men" like this one. (Not my auction)...
Look for that logo and Hong Kong, I've got 2 sets of these, one as backup.

I put a ring of hot glue on the inside of my boogie men and that's done a good job of keeping them on the shaft. Should be easily removable if the need arises.
I have replacements from Marco and they've never came off in the almost two years they've been on. Seems weird, I wonder if a heat gun could shrink it a bit?

Luckily I had a couple of spares in the coin box. Was back up and playing in 10 minutes.
