Question: Is it important to return the hands to the original position? I took mines apart and did see that it is suggested to return to original….

If the hands where removed at 3:16 do you need to be placed back at 3:16? I don’t know what the time was originally…

If you don't remember what time the clock had, then follow the manual, and put ALL the gears in one by one, following the instructions. This will verify that all gears are aligned properly. (Following the directions, when you reassemble all the gears, the clock will be as midnight when you're finished.)
