That backglass is sure 60's retro artwork. Never even noticed the girl leaning over with a short dress at the ticket booth before.
Quoted from jrpinball:Years ago, a friend acquired a "Flip A Card" at an auction. It needed work, and he didn't know much about fixing games, so every Friday night my brother and I would go to his house, drink beer, eat Chinese food, and work on the "Flip A Card". A neighbor of my friend stopped over one night and hung out with us. After a while, he suddenly said something like "I think I have a pinball machine". My brother and I looked at each other, then asked him, "what do you mean, you think you have a pinball machine?" He explained that his dad owned a house across the street from theirs that they rented out, and that they had a lot of old stuff stored in the basement. He thought there might be an old pinball machine down there, and he said that it had the same shaped head as the "Flip A Card" (a wedgie!). OK, so we told him to find out and report back the following Friday night. Well, this went on for weeks and weeks; each week he would say "ah, I forgot to ask my dad about the machine", or something to that effect. It kind of became a running joke after a while; when Ralph would show up at my friends house, we would just kind of look him in the eye and he would just shake his head or something meaning he had forgotten once again. Needless to say, the mystery as to what game it could be was killing my brother and me!
Well, eventually one day, this guy Ralph called my brother. It was some kind of holiday; maybe President's Day or something because my brother was off from work, and so was Ralph, but I was working. He told my brother he finally got down to the basement of their other house, and lo and behold a wedgehead lurked in the darkness. Turns out, it was a Gottlieb "Fun Land". They pulled it out and brought it over to my friend's house and set it up alongside the "Flip A Card". It was in surprisingly good condition, but needed work to get it playing properly. Fueled by more beer and Chinese food, we spent several more Friday nights working on the "Fun Land", and it came out very nice. I had never played one before then, and I thought it was a really good player. We enjoyed it for quite some time before Ralph took it back to his house. I don't know if he still has it because I lost touch with him and my old friend as well. I remember offering to buy it from him once, but he declined. So anyway, that's my "Fun Land" story.
Good story - thanks for sharing. They both probably need shopped again by now!
