I’d definitely suggest purchasing one if you are on the fence. I’ve had mine for about 2 years, and it’s easily the best restoration purchase I’ve ever had. Here is a pic of a diner apron I recently did (airbrushed).

Yeah. Weeding it was a ton of work, but worth it in the end. I just put a new blade on my machine, and was worried about the fine details being too small, but this thing knocked it out no problem.

    Quoted from roar:

That looks like it would have been a lot of work to weed... that's all done by hand right?

    #434 3 years ago

Thanks! I used the default matte vinyl auto setting when I printed it.

    Quoted from Atari_Daze:

That looks fantastic, I'd be curious if you remember your settings you used. I've found my attempts at precise fine detail like that to fail.

    #436 3 years ago

Happy for you. I don’t think you will regret it!

    Quoted from roar:

It is really impressive for sure... I bit the bullet last night and ordered a Cameo 4... family has all agreed they will try doing some crafts on it so it gets more use. Looking forward to playing around with it.

    #438 3 years ago

Thanks! Yep, I use the hp 4670 scanner (which is essential for playfields) to scan, used Inkscape to trace, and printed in the silhouette software.

    Quoted from PinballBillinFL:

To echo the others, that's a great piece of work. I haven't yet pulled the trigger on getting a Cameo for my playfield resto, and have given only passing thought to the apron. This might be the tipping point! I'm guessing you started with a scan?

    #439 3 years ago

Here are a couple more pics of other stuff. I always meant to come back to this thread and post them since this thread is what inspired me to go out and buy one. I had no experience with Inkscape or any other similar software beforehand. Again, it’s kind of a game changer in my opinion with pinball restoration. Would highly recommend getting one.

That fantastic! I did redo all of the colors on the tz playfield. For some reason, I didn’t take pics of the other colors. The pic from Inkscape just has all of the layers on.

    Quoted from BJM-Maxx:

Your posts have convinced me to get one finally. I have used InkScape a lot, I redrew a couple of entire playfields from scratch and had them printed. In your case for the TZ restoration, did you do a stencil for each colour?

    #444 3 years ago

Good call. I upgraded the software, and it was well worth it. If you keep an eye on slick deals, they will have a sale on it every once in a while. Considering the fact that the upgrade allows importing svg files directly, it's well worth the one time cost.

I’ve been a proud member of the silhouette restorer club for a few years now, and thought I’d share a video I just completed and haven’t put up yet, documenting a restoration I’m doing on my Rollergames playfield, using my silhouette cameo 3.

    #566 2 years ago

Thanks!! The transfer tape I use is r tape ebay.com link: itm

It’s the easiest one that I’ve used when eyeballing placement. I apply it dry, but it’s a bit forgiving if I have to reposition it as well as long as I haven’t put the entire thing down

    #567 2 years ago

Also - here’s a quick video of the hp 4670 scanner. Highly recommended for this stuff.

    #570 2 years ago

That is a fantastic idea (the scanner). I haven’t been in the market for a bit, and it makes sense that the hp is getting harder to find considering the fact that they haven’t updated the drivers since windows xp

Here's a video on how I do fades between colors. On the rollergames playfield, it's primarily between yellow and orange, and sometimes red. I am not concerned with the half tone dots on this playfield, just figured that's what they intended originally anyway, and in my opinion, it looks much better.

    #576 2 years ago

lol, sorry. I hadn't listed that one yet either. Here it is if you want to check it out ...

    #578 2 years ago

You are more than welcome. Sorry my camera angles aren’t great yet, but it’ll get better. Also, thank you for watching and subscribing, I really appreciate it.

    Quoted from radium:

That's funny because I'm the one that asked about application in this video, so thanks for that!

Finally got back to editing some videos on the roller games playfield restoration for those of you interested. I pretty much used the silhouette for every bit of it.

    #584 1 year ago

I have actually used water slide decals before, and they have turned out well, definitely nothing against using them. This is the first one I've done that I pretty much just said "forget it" to half tones, and I actually really like the result. I actually have already done the white at this point, but hadn't had the time to put the video together. It's funny how even though white on the sponsors looks really bright, I still had to redo them because they looked dull once I sprayed the rest of the white. I'm nearly finished vectorizing all of the grey, and really looking forward to seeing that done, as there are probably about 15 different shades at this point due to age. I'm kind of going back and forth on the inserts - I've done them both ways, but thinking I might just do decals this time around. Not sure yet

    Quoted from sethbenjamin:

I’m curious - have you used waterslide decals at all?
I tend to use a mixture of masking/airbrushing and decal work.
But, granted, the decals require a lot of time on the computer to get them dialed in. What appears to me as a more efficient method might actually be a wash once you factor in the “screen time.”
Anyhow, this playfield is coming along nicely. RG was the first machine I ever restored!
And for blacks, paint is definitely more opaque than decals.
I’d say definitely do the whites! It brightens up the game considerably. And after everything else you’ve done, spraying nice fresh white is easy.
A labor of love, what you’re doing. Very cool.

    #586 1 year ago

Awesome! Would love to see updates as you go

    Quoted from dr_nybble:

I’ve started a playfield repaint — Chicago Coin Bullseye Baseball, fairly simple playfield. Using Oramask 813, it’s decent but I think GerberMask is better. Finding that the Oramask doesn’t release as well and is a bit less stable than GerberMask. It’s easy to buy though, I’ll have to find somewhere in Canada that will sell GerberMask to me.

    #588 1 year ago

Incredible job on the previous one. Looking forward to see this one!

    Quoted from dr_nybble:

Teaser pic -- masked up and ready for white. Had to do the central mask in two pieces, a pain to line it up.
As with my previous bare wood repaint (https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/bare-wood-em-playfield-repaint) I have a printout on transparency of the black layer to align the stencils.
This is a new piece of maple plywood, holes cut from the original using a router and a pattern tracing bit.
Took ~50ml of Golden High Flow titanium white using an Iwata LPH80 gun.

for anyone interested, here is the rest of what I currently have done with the rollergames playfield restoration. So close to done, just need to get back on it. If nothing else, it's great to space out to.

It's been forever, but I'm in the final stretch on my roller games playfield restoration. For those of you that are interested, here's a quick video on doing the grey area.

Finally finished my roller games playfield using the silhouette for the entire thing. https://twitter.com/AndPinball/status/1647258885709864962

Thanks! I just use inkscape and the paid version of the silhouette software, and it's a breeze. Tedious, but totally doable. Edit: Hp 4670 scanner as well.
