I have actually used water slide decals before, and they have turned out well, definitely nothing against using them. This is the first one I've done that I pretty much just said "forget it" to half tones, and I actually really like the result. I actually have already done the white at this point, but hadn't had the time to put the video together. It's funny how even though white on the sponsors looks really bright, I still had to redo them because they looked dull once I sprayed the rest of the white. I'm nearly finished vectorizing all of the grey, and really looking forward to seeing that done, as there are probably about 15 different shades at this point due to age. I'm kind of going back and forth on the inserts - I've done them both ways, but thinking I might just do decals this time around. Not sure yet
Quoted from sethbenjamin:I’m curious - have you used waterslide decals at all?
I tend to use a mixture of masking/airbrushing and decal work.
But, granted, the decals require a lot of time on the computer to get them dialed in. What appears to me as a more efficient method might actually be a wash once you factor in the “screen time.”
Anyhow, this playfield is coming along nicely. RG was the first machine I ever restored!
And for blacks, paint is definitely more opaque than decals.
I’d say definitely do the whites! It brightens up the game considerably. And after everything else you’ve done, spraying nice fresh white is easy.
A labor of love, what you’re doing. Very cool.
