The idiot before me had painted it plain white, and I pretty much had to scrape off that paint, which did not turn out well. I sanded down the paint to some extent, but leaving enough of the original paint to help use as a guide. I made my own stencils out of transparency sheets & cardboard, and did a lot of touching up to get rid of the "leaked spray" (I sprayed into aluminum foil to put it on a paintbrush). This side will only be visible from looking in front, and I must say that it is very hard to tell that it has been repainted! The Montana Shock Dark Orange is almost an exact match, and the Rustoleum Antique White is also very good for the 56 year-old stock white; however, the Rustoleum American Accents Navy Blue is a bit darker than stock. The backbox and the front triangle are pre-painted.
I also had repainted my Gottlieb's Outer Space about 3 decades ago (also with no stencils).
