I probably see it a bit differently. It's nice window dressing as far as I'm concerned.
Don't get me wrong, it's a cool idea and I appreciate anything that helps gets you into the mood of a particular theme... but once the novelty wears off, it's the gameplay that'll either keep me coming back; or not. I guess that's why I don't get all the fuss.
