I found a guitar on Reverb that I want. It's somewhat rare, a little under $3k. Problem is, it's in Hong Kong. I made an offer on Reverb that was declined, but I found it a bit cheaper on the stores web site. Reverb feedback is decent. 76 sales, 51 reviews, average 5 stars. I emailed him through the website hoping he would understand English. Of course his English was better than nearly everyone I've responded to on Facebook classified here in the states. He countered with a reasonable price. What do you think the most secure payment would be? I could probably pay a premium through Reverb and be double covered. I'd prefer to buy direct and save us both a couple bucks. I'd guess any credit card would be fine. Paypal makes me a little nervous, I know American Express Platinum has some extra coverage.

#1502 3 months ago

Credit card would be your safest bet.

Make sure your credit card does not charge you a fee for international purchases (many travel cards don't)

You could go vacation in HK, and fly it back as carryon free. This saves you shipping charges, and you can make sure the guitar plays correctly, and is not counterfeit.

Is that the '54 Stratocaster the seller claims Andrés Segovia played when he was a member of the Ramones?

Quoted from Oshara:

Any recommendations for a wireless system? This isn't for performing just trying to reduce the number of cables and give some freedom to walk around and play.
And does anyone know if you need a specific type for single coil vs. humbuckers? Ideally I'd just want one that I can swap between guitars rather than have to purchase multiple ones.
Thanks in advance for any info!

I use this. Cheap, works great. Easy to swap between guitars. I’ve had mine for 3+ years and still works great, holds charge for 3-4 hours.

Thanks! This replaces a MIM version.

Could be the best guitar I’ve ever held.

Whats the dongle on the low E string adjustment screw?

#1511 3 months ago

Yep. It’s brilliant.

When used with a Floyd bridge (really it should be dive only), you can pop it out for dropped D tuning in a second. Then pop it right back in to standard tuning.

ive been looking at them. i know they moved locations from japan to mexico for labor reasons, is there actually a difference between them

I have a 2019(?) MIM version in vintage white (looks yellow) w/a maple fretboard and have zero issues with it. Still get a compound radius fretboard, stainless steel frets, D-tuna, etc. (I'm going to sell it since I don't need two). The differences in the MIJ model are "Eddie's exact touring specs" including his strap/eye hooks, 5-ply binding, 2 different, custom wound pickups (and presumably pots etc), upgraded EVH branded hardware, kill switch etc. Is there anything wrong with the MIM? Not at all. But Japan construction is better than even US made IMO.

Japanese manufacturing / construction is always superior to anything made in Mexico.
Same goes for Fender.
I'd take any Japanese manufactured Fender over a US Team Built C Shop. The fit and finish on the Japenese Models is always way above what you find elsewhere.

This is my Vega that I bought new in 1977. They were made by Egmond in Holland for Martin.
It was unplayable by the early 80s due to the neck joint gradually failing (out of warranty, of course). I stuck it in a closet for about 30 years.
Around 2012, I got it out and carefully removed the neck. I had no idea how to fix it, so it went back in the closet for another 12 years, until last week, when I read about how people have fixed similar problems by bolting the neck on.
I bought a brass threaded insert and a 5/16" bolt and went for it. Worked great! The nut was also missing, so I ordered a new one and installed it.
Amazingly, it all went back together and sounds great! It sounds a lot like a Martin. It's got really nice tuners made in West Germany (they look like Schallers). The wood has aged nicely. I'm glad to be able to play my guitar again after hauling it around for 4 decades!

Great looking vintage Ibanez! Congratulations! I love the double cut away, and the vibe they had going before they went off building shredders.

They still pop them out every now and then. These have always been my preferred Les Paul alternative.

This came out at the end of January. Had anyone snagged one before the first batch sold out?

You ever checked out a Baker B1 59?

Those and the Brian Moore DC/1. Both well worth the time to hunt up.

This is the guitar from Hong Kong I mentioned a few posts back. McCarty 594 Single Cut with P90s. I've been collecting guitars for 35 years and I've never owned a P90 guitar. It plays identical to my other McCarty 594, which is a good thing. Sound is very different, also a good thing. It has a really unique midrange. Looking forward to cranking it Saturday at a gig.

Placed the order Jan 26th. It took a week for the funds to clear. He did warn me it would be a few days, wasn't expecting a week. Communication was great the entire time. He shipped it on the 2nd and it showed up today. I figured it would be a couple weeks. I've had stuff take considerably longer only going coast to coast within the US.

Had to pick out some new wood for another custom D-45 to replace the first one. Don't ask.

No...Martin made a bit of an oops on my first guitar so they have to redo it. They were pretty amazing about the whole thing, actually.

I'm a Fender guy, but I've spent the last several days trying to talk myself both into and out of picking up a Les Paul Standard. I've almost pulled the trigger several times.

Same with Gretsch (at least 10 years ago)

Update: I bought it!

I started playing guitar in '96, and as a teenager of the 90's who loved - and still loves - Tool, I've always loved the sound and aesthetic of Adam Jones's '79 silverburst LP. While this is a reissue with different specs, I've watched enough videos to conclude that it sounds close enough to fill a gap in my tone that I haven't quite been able to address with my Fenders (and I LOVE my Jazzmasters and my HH Jaguar).

This is my first Gibson (though I do have a couple of Epiphones). 16-year-old me would be shitting his pants right now. 43-year-old me is still shitting, but as Maynard would say, "vicariously" (or perhaps incontinence is setting in).

Nice guit! How much does it weigh? Lp’s can be really heavy. Love the tone though. I am a gibson guy myself, looking for a les paul flame top or a firebird.

Beautiful guitar. Didn't Adam Jones make a point of requesting the heaviest wood available?

I also recently paid for my holy grail and currently waiting for delivery in a couple weeks. Washburn N4 Vintage.

Yeah, I think it clocks in at just under 10 pounds.

Nice! I've played one of those for the last 5 years. Great guitar. Put my original 1980s Bill Lawrence L-500-XL to replace the "new" in-name-only pickup. I had that vintage one rolling around since the early 90s when I got really into Pantera. I recently switched back to my Brian Moore custom shop which I'm also enjoying. Have to take a photo

Damn…thats a back breaker for me. Hopefully you got a wide strap for it. Some say the heavier, the better the tone.

My main guitar has been an aluminum neck Jazzmaster for like 15 years. No wonder I can't turtle under a game to level it anymore...

Beautiful!

I played in bands all over southeast Michigan for 15 - 20 years, and I never owned anything better than a $450 Kramer. I'm going to go to my grave wishing I'd broken down and bought a nice guitar back in the day. I dont really play anymore since pinball took over my life and the band broke up 20 years ago, though I still have all my gear gathering dust in the basement.

Can still buy new. Washburn also made a line called "Nextar" when their agreement with Nuno expired in 2002 or '03. They are the EXACT same guitars, with different pickups and (IMO) superior wiring with coil splitting capabilities. They are hard to find, but sell for cheap and are WAY better than the budget Nuno guitars with his name on them. They have the Stephen's Extended cutaway neck mounting too. I have one with DiMarzio Steve's Special and Air Norton pickups.

I used to have a fender strat and upgraded to DG20s David Gilmours pickups.
Lesson learned never sell a guitar you love.I am thinking of adding it to a strat
I have now because those pickups could cut glass.any thoughts on this ?

Why not? Even one of those pre-wired pickguards with DG20s is only $300.
