    Quoted from Msch:

If you buy anything advertised as “limited” or “collectible”, it is most likely neither of the two. A fool spends money on LEs. No one cares you own one. You’re not going to impress anyone.

In the case of Pirates, the LE adds so much stuff over the standard for only $1000 it’s a no-brainer.

    Quoted from ThePinballCo-op:

Example: Could you imagine if Stern built TNA? Everyone would own one by now. The hype of that game alone was bigger than almost any game I can remember, but the production rate was so slow that the demand cooled off because so many pins hit the 2nd market.

You’re right about this. I loved TNA and it was going to be my second pin. I didn’t get in because the deposit was large, non-refundable, and the wait substantial.

Since that time, more pins have come out and while I still like TNA a lot, I am spoiled for choice by so many great machines now.

    Quoted from jfh:

Maybe. But I’ve heard that Dialed In has sold better.
I don’t buy the “we ran out of parts” line on why POTC production was stopped.

I do. Put yourself in their shoes...you have to preorder (and pre-pay) for N parts to build N games.
That is a substantial cash outlay, and with disc-gate (and people pulling back preorders) they made a conservative bet to get parts for a reasonable run they thought they’d sell.

In the end the game turned out amazing and everyone loves it, so it’s a shame they are already tooling up for the next game. But hey, machines are out there if you want them. Going upmarket to the CE is not a bad option.
