the sound is way off on my black hole machine. sometimes theres no sound when you start a game. and sometimes the sound is all rearranged so the bumpers etc trigger a different sound when hit. any ideas would be welcome.

Different sounds on pops is normal.
Do you have your ground mods done?

#3 10 years ago

i havent done any. im very new to pinball ownership so im not sure if its been done on mine or not.

Probably a good idea to do them. It will make the game much more reliable.
Make sure the original battery on the MPU has been replaced with an off board battery.

See this recent thread where grounding of this machine is discussed. You will also find a link there about how to accomplish the grounding mods.

Check your connectors, push the cables inside the housing with a small screwdriver. Very often the wires doesn't touch anymore the pins inside the housing.

i know the battery was replaced as i noticed the little black case wired into the board and hanging there. ill look into the grounding mod and check out the housings

You might need to re-flow the solder around all the pins on the power supply too (if it hasn't been done yet). A2J1-5 pin supplies the sound board with 5VDC, if it goes bad, you get nothing or flakey sounds. While there, you might as well upgrade the power supply board with the correct components for R10 & CR7.

ok, i pretty much checked all the wiring housings and took them on and off a few times and it seems MOST of the sounds are normal. the only thing it seems isnt working is the background sounds while playing, all triggered sounds seem ok. if you are a black hole player you might no which sound i mean because its hard to describe in words. doodle oodle OODLE OODLE OODLE in a repeating loop.

there's also a whooshing noise when you're on the lower playfield.
